Hi there. Your edit to my talk page suggested that I did not give a reason in my edit summary, yet I did. 81.131.230.246 (talk) 16:47, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
Hiya, I am intrigued by your mention of computer reading glasses. I've just started wearing reading glasses the last year or two, and this year have started to also wear them for on-screen work (aging sucks!). However, I'm still not used to them and get eyestrain on some days. Can you recommend computer reading glasses? --JN466 11:50, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
Following is an excerpt from the Osho discussion page:
(out) k. I found this website with a long article that quotes that very same Thompson quote. It's copyrighted 2006 to a Timothy Conway, PhD, so Thompson's article is evidently even older than 2007. It appears that he had the article on a different website before uploading it to it's present resting place at Blogspot. So how close is Conway's Enlightened-Spirituality.org website as a RS for the Thompson quote?

Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard
The above was in the wrong place and is now on the Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard#A quotation in Osho in the following form:
Please ref: Article = Osho (Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh), Talk page section = Talk:Osho (Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh)#Thompson quotation...
I would like to ask if it would be appropriate to cite the following website, http://www.enlightened-spirituality.org/rajneesh.html, which holds a quotation that is also in the Osho article in this section (if it hasn't been removed from the Wikipedia article). Can this website, "enlightened-spirituality.org", and its contributor, Timothy Conway, be considered a reliable source?
Also, please consider two more websites as possible reliable sources for the same quotation: http://www.sannyasnews.org/latest/archives/27 and http://www.rebelliousspirit.com/osho-webzine/1476/show/sharing
The quotation is as follows:
I am not a disciple and I do not consider Osho my master, but I cannot hide my admiration for the old man. I think his contribution to expanding human awareness has no parallel in human history. There have been other masters, but no one has been so effective in reaching so many people during his lifetime as Osho did. Also, his insistence on laughter, enjoying life and humor as religious qualities makes him stand alone in the world of mystics. Finally, he helped to liberate, sexually and from social conditioning vast quantities of spiritual seekers that would have, otherwise, ended up ranking with some ascetic, repressive guru, and thus contributing with more repression and self-torture to this world.
— Anthony Thompson
I should also note that there has been a lively discussion on this page before I realized that it was the incorrect place to ask about sources.

A Fact template was recently placed in the Fashion section of this article. Isn't this section chock full of "obvious truths"? Like "the Sun is hot" and "the Earth is round", isn't every claim in this section obviously true? If consensus agrees, then a reference source is not needed, per Template:Fact#When not to use this template, for any claim in this section. So I shall remove the Fact template in a few days unless somebody can justify its use in this section.

I requested semi-protection of the following article (against my better judgement because some IPs have been improving the list) because one IP kept removing referenced material without explanation. I am putting the conversation here due to Enigma's good advice...
Semi-protection. Vandalism – Frequently warned and blocked IP user 98.15.137.71 (talk) continues to delete referenced entries. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Paine Ellsworth (talk • contribs)
Note: The article was not blocked (thank goodness), and now I've learned something new about what to do about vandalizing IP editors who seem to be out on some kind of vendetta against Wikipedia.

I just raised the following question at the Village pump (Archive Link)...
This is a question about a specific template, and I don't know if it's a software bug or just that the template itself needs to be adjusted (it's a complicated template, and I wouldn't dream of editing it myself as I haven't got a clue how this would be done).
(The following was moved from the Village Pump)...
(out) I just learned something new about all this. I was having a problem building a Navbar (discussion here in case anybody's interested), and it was discovered that the type of skin chosen can make all the difference in the appearance of things. I had been using "Simple". Evidently, general readers of Wikipedia always use the "MonoBook" skin. I switched to MonoBook and it did make all the difference. Now the Navbar looks the same whether I'm logged in or logged out.
Pertinent to this problem, that is of text and images being cut off on the right, I checked the List of Charmed characters and it appears okay in the MonoBook skin (again using IE7 web browser). However, I also checked the Austria–Hungary article, and the flags are still only barely visible, even in MonoBook. So I'm still wondering if the Template:Infobox former country is in need of repair?

Another article has been found, the German Empire page, where the Infobox:Former Country template is used with flags. I've found that if the filename of one of the s- flags is altered, the wording pushes the right side of the template out and shows the rest of the flags. Of course, this is not a solution; however, it is at least a hint that it is the Infobox template itself that is in need of repair. I shall make my rather feeble attempt to find the problem and repair it, then I'll return here from time to time to report my progress, if any, and to pick up any tips other editors might leave here. Thank you for any help I can get!

I placed a little pointer note on the Template Talk page. When I read the /doc page, the following came to light...
The main developers (of the Template:Former Country) are:
I'll try to contact them directly. — .`^) Paine Ellsworthdiss`cuss (^`. 01:52, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
Historical: The Template:Infobox Former Country was added to the Austria-Hungary page on 19 November 2006 by editor WhyNotFreedom – (THIS EDIT: [1])— It's beginning to seem that this Infobox has not been correct in this context from the beginning of its usage. I was hoping that I would find vandalism that went undetected, so that it would be easy to repair. Instead it looks more and more as if the Infobox is and was unable to stabilize, at least where the quirky IE browsers are concerned.
The above discussion is still awaiting final resolution. See Talk page.

the answer to your date query is very precise. You can find in some dictionaries, such as Merriam-Webster, the first recorded use of a given word. In this case it's 1801. Peter jackson (talk) 10:33, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
I was wondering what happened, I saw a broken link and thought I was responsible and tried to repair it and then I saw you changed it and now I understand, thank you, I was going to ask and then I thought..It's ok anyway. I say you changed the link, personally I liked the sannyasnews citation as there are other things I would like to cite from the same source, no one was strongly objecting to that link so I feel it could have stayed, or you could have just added the conway link and left both, I felt the issue in the end was not more the sannyasnews link but the notability of the commenter. Why not have both citations? regardsOff2riorob (talk) 18:19, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
edit conflict..Yes, that is true, the main issue before was that there was a chat site/forum attached to it, and I realise that it will perhaps need each individual request to be considered for acceptence. Cool, thanks. Off2riorob (talk) 18:50, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
Okay, now, don't laugh... I don't usually watch much TV, but here lately one of my favorite series is Charmed. And my favorite character on the show is Piper Halliwell megatalently portrayed by Holly Marie Combs. Don't get me wrong, because Prue, Phoebe and Paige are also portrayed by beautiful and megatalented performers, but Piper (Holly Marie) has stolen my heart.
Anyway, I noticed a Navbar at the bottom of the page called Chronology of the Charmed Ones and their Companions. This Navbar is located on several of the Charmed character pages. It's not really a Navbar template, though, but just a table. It's harder to edit than a real Navbar, because it doesn't have the "v-d-e" (view-discuss-edit) that comes with every true Navbar. I read somewhere that these should be converted to true Navbar templates, so I gave it shot. I completed the template in one of my sandboxes and then created the actual template on this page. Then after all that hard work, I logged out. But before I left the room, I thought I'd check the template while I'm in a logged out state. It looked very different from when I was logged in. The spacings in three of the rows were all screwed up.
I first noted this "anomaly"(?) on my User page. I've created several Userboxes, and when I'm logged out, these boxes are larger and change the look of the page. The really curious thing is that the old quasi-Navbar looks exactly the same whether I'm logged in or not. Go figure. So I'm going to ask about this at the Helpdesk to see if there is any existing or pending solution to this. It's probably related to the fact that I use IE7 to browse and to edit. And IE browsers seem to be a little quirky in several ways when it comes to editing Wikipedia. (Note the section above titled "Austria-Hungary template question".) More on this later when I hear from the more experienced editors who monitor the Helpdesk.

There was a final resolution earlier, but it was not that good due to the vertical instability of the spacing choices in a Navbox template. I eventually went back to using a table as explained below in a message to PrimeHunter's Talk page...
(out) Here's an interesting note: I just tested this while logged out. The above tip from PrimeHunter even works when you are logged out. Just go to any page (remember, when logged out you're in "monobook" skin), then type the "?useskin=(name of skin)" after the URL and press ENTER. The page will then load in your browser with the skin you selected (this works, at least, in IE7).

I haven't been contacted by the original template's creator, Olympic god, in about a week, so a ((Tfd)) has been placed at the old template page, Template:Charmedcompanions. I also placed a notice at Olympic god's talk page. The discussion, if any, will be held at this location.

Hello, it seems that we disagree about how to refer to Thomas Paine's status as one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. I left a ((Helpme)) template and the following message at the above Talk page:
As you may note, there are several people articles that link to this template. And apparently, they all have a redlink (well, actually more of a brownlink in ?useskin=monobook) such as the one shone at the bottom of this template page. Was this done intentionally? or is this template broken?

PE, please take a look at the recent additions to the NRM discussion page. Your continued feedback would be appreciated.Sirvice626 (talk) 10:25, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
Good luck on that project. I'm sure it's in good hands. Measles made another change to lead and I'm comfortable with it. I'm curious to know if you are. Sirvice626 (talk) 21:38, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I'm satisfied with the change. It demonstrates in the lead that NRM is a new term for cult and that was my point. Case closed? Btw, I have no idea what "Charmed Companions" are. Sirvice626 (talk) 02:18, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
