  • curprev 12:0012:00, 11 July 2022Dan Harkless talk contribsm 8,150 bytes +4 On the actual template page, a space before ((dead link)) gets automatically removed by some code somewhere, which doesn't happen when previewing an edit of the doc page, so surrounded the example ((dead link)) and ((dead link |fix-attempted=yes)) with quotes. Tag: 2017 wikitext editor
  • curprev 11:5711:57, 11 July 2022Dan Harkless talk contribs 8,146 bytes +323 The documentation incorrectly indicated that only setting fix-attempted to "yes" would result in "[permanent dead link]". Corrected to note that any non-blank value, including "no", currently has that effect. A better fix would be to update the code to specifically distinguish "yes", "Yes", "YES", "y", and "Y" from all other values, but I don't have the privileges to edit it. If someone makes that change, it would also be good to make attempted-fix a synonym for the parameter (easy to mix up). Tag: 2017 wikitext editor

The syntax works as intended which provides better portability (templates are often used cross-site. That's why we should improve portability). Please don't revert simply because you don't know what they are for.

Also mentioning the important <ref> code right away; more details about the <ref> follows later, but it needs to be mentioned right away.

An example says more than a thousand words and is more quickly understood. Especially for people using Visual Editor who do not see "]". And should it be placed inside or outside the <ref></ref>?
