Recently, User:MeggMcN made a large change to this article. Although the change has been reverted twice, I think it has lots of good information that we can use. I posted a copy at User:MeggMcN/sandbox for us to refer to. For example, the lead section of the current article is heavily weighted towards his Beatles-related work, but should emphasize his Philly news history and current news work more. Also, his other books should be included. Let's work together to improve the article! GoingBatty (talk) 01:41, 8 July 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
One of the things that the current article and MeggMcN's version is missing is independent sources. GoingBatty (talk) 02:00, 8 July 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I was asked to make these exact changes by Larry Kane himself. He does not want any of my content changed. Please tell me how I would go about getting the content passed. MeggMcN
"the dean of Philadelphia television news anchors" (Who gave him this title?)
"one of the nation’s most respected TV journalists for more than 53 years" (Was he really one of the most respected in the nation back in 1960?)
"groundbreaking radio interviews" (Who considers the interviews "groundbreaking"?)
"Kane is considered one of the premiere American experts on the life of John Lennon." (by whom?)
"historic 2008 and 2012 conventions" (The other conventions weren't historic?)
Other issues include:
Just as Mr. Kane understands the importance of a reporter's responsibility to have correct sources, we need to do the same at Wikipedia, and cite those independent reliable sources in the article.
The opening paragraph you suggested doesn't adequately summarize his accomplishments.
Text that will become dated within 12 months, such as "recently marked his 55th anniversary", should be reworded or removed.
Typos (e.g. "1970's" and "The Kane's") should be fixed.
Having said all that, the text you proposed demonstrated that the current Wikipedia article has many deficiencies that need to be addressed. Please don't post your text a third time, and please don't give up and walk away. Instead, please help us build a better credible article. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 23:12, 8 July 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Just to reiterate Going Batty's point, this isn't the auto-biography of Larry Kane. This is Wikipedia's biography of Larry Kane. The fact that you "are on deadline" from Larry Kane actually hurts your editing attempts. Some of your changes are valuable and worthwhile, others are pure puffery and PR. Please refrain from making additional edits to this article. If you have additional proposed changes bring them to this page and ask other (uninvolved) editors to make those changes. That is the proper process if you are involved, everyone makes a variety of mistakes as they join the efforts to edit Wikipedia. Don't worry but also please try to learn how things are handled. It will improve this and all other articles you may edit. Thanks! Capitalismojo (talk) 15:45, 9 July 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I was bold and rewrote the lead to try to include his major accomplishments, while incorporating everything from User:MeggMcN (except the title of his new book). Since Wikipedia has no deadline, I'm stopping there for tonight. Based on the recent versions of this article as well as looking at the featured article on Peter Jennings, I think the rest of the article should be organized as follows:
