I am not a CR7 fan or a person showing bias, but hasn't Messi only won 3 UCLS? The 2005/06 UEFA Champions League campaign does not count since he was not on the Champions League squad 2406:3003:2002:2D79:F85A:96C:9190:1DD7 (talk) 07:46, 16 June 2024 (UTC)
Hmph. It would actually be more accurate to mention it (even if only in the stats section at the bottom of the page), regardless of what the fanboys think. This is not a Messi fanpage. Black Kite (talk)18:40, 16 June 2024 (UTC)
There are a lot of players who didn't play in the final. For example, Pele played two matches at the 1962 World Cup, he was injured in the match against Czechoslovakia and had to sit out the rest of the tournament.
That wasnt in the CL though. UEFA apparently has these rules about CL titles. A note should actually be added to every player that fits this criteria --FMSky (talk) 18:56, 16 June 2024 (UTC)
If those are UEFA rules can you provide the source? The source you provided in the last discussion is just a statistic.
Can you list all the players that fit this criteria? Can you guarantee that there will be no errors? The number of players is huge because Champions League has gone through seven decades.
In addition, there is no guarantee that there will be no controversy when adding notes to players' articles. Most articles are not protected, anyone can remove notes at any time. Annh07 (talk) 19:39, 16 June 2024 (UTC)
It wouldn't be difficult to do, but would come across as amazingly petty and mean spirited. You get players who have league title medals, who barely start a game all season. That's because it's a team/squad sport. And where does it end - suddenly Roy Keane and Paul Scholes have an Asterix against their name because they never played in the final? And it would also have to be applied to all sports. People do didn't appear in the Superbowl, and the NBA finals and son on 147.161.143.72 (talk) 14:09, 18 June 2024 (UTC)

Messi is the first top footballer to openly support a memecoin by promoting Watercoin on his Instagram page, which supports social projects for gaining clean drinking water in developing countries. 185.46.130.220 (talk) 19:16, 8 July 2024 (UTC)

Change “108 international appearances” at the top of the page to “109 international appearances.” I don’t know how the editor missed that part — Preceding unsigned comment added by Leopavon02 (talk • contribs) 03:37, 10 July 2024 (UTC)

The sentence "At the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Messi led Argentina to its first World Cup victory." is incorrect. It was the 3rd world cup Argentina won 136.62.48.117 (talk) 23:53, 17 July 2024 (UTC)

I don't se why this would be OR, since Mundo Deportivo is one of the most reputable sports newspaper in Spain. In the article I linked it mentions Messi as a substitute in the match, and it even shows a picture of Messi travelling with the team for the first leg in Sevilla. Mazewaxie (talk • contribs) 06:34, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
That doesn't make sense. Remember, for those who are in the squad for the 2005 Supercopa de España will get the medal, Messi was not in the squad either. Even though you wrote the note why do you think he has 45 trophies? Guyrichtheman (talk) 09:06, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
I don't think he has 45 trophies. I think he has 44 that are 100% sure, and the 2005 Supercopa de España remains a foggy subject. He was on the bench according to Mundo Deportivo, and the newspaper even shows a picture of him and Deco travelling to Sevilla for the first leg. I mean, FC Barcelona, Inter Miami, Major League Soccer and most importantly FIFA and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (the latter assigns the trophy), all attribute it to him. We can't ignore all that, especially the Royal Spanish Football Federation. Who better than them could know how many trophies should be attributed to a player? Mazewaxie (talk • contribs) 09:22, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
You will note that Mundo Deportivo gives 8 substitutes for each team when only 7 were allowed. Miguel Angel appears on their list for Betis but was not on the bench. I suspect each club took one extra player in case someone got injured in the warm-up (for example), and I wouldn't be surprised if it is this that has caused so much confusion. It's not really a "foggy subject" - he didn't play, but FCB decided in their wisdom that for some reason he should be credited with it even if he didn't get a medal, and all the other sources that you mention have followed. Black Kite (talk)09:49, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
I agree that most media outlets followed FCB, but the Royal Spanish Football Federation is a whole another story. How could that be explained? Mazewaxie (talk • contribs) 10:01, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
Occam's Razor suggests the most likely reason is that they got their information from FCB (or a media organization parroting them) as well. Black Kite (talk)10:51, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
It could be, but it would be unlikely in my opinion. It would be useful to find another document by the RFEF that mentions how many supercups Messi has won, if it's out there. Mazewaxie (talk • contribs) 12:07, 25 July 2024 (UTC)

I request that the editors add the number of each type of trophy inside brackets under the Honours section.
Who needs to put the amount of each type of trophy inside brackets anyway? If you cannot count the total of trophies it will be your problem. Guyrichtheman (talk) 06:50, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
