Why does a search for "Safety Vest" link here to a "Safety Reflector"?? --220.101.28.25 (talk) 11:48, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
When I originally created this article, I wanted it to be specifically about the wearable pedestrian type of reflector. These reflectors are mainly used in Scandinavia and Northern Europe and as far as I know there is no established name for such reflectors. Perhaps "Pedestrian's reflector" might be a better name for this article? Still, the name "safety reflector" is also used and there are similar pages in several other languages that cover both wearable reflectors and those used on vehicles and to make objects in general visible to drivers. It has been suggested that this article be merged with the one specifically about bicycle reflectors but this is in my opinion not a good idear. --Dumell (talk) 19:20, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
I removed the claim about the safety refelctor (the pedestrian kind) having been invented by a farmer from Finland. The statement had been questioned for over two years and still stood without a reference. As a Finn myself I am familiar with the claim, but let's keep it out of the article until someone finds a source for this claim that we can link to. --Dumell (talk) 19:40, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
It says that it's a CLAIM, and it's a well known claim, so I don't see what's the problem. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.78.156.177 (talk) 18:28, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

A TV show World War Weird (S2 E6) says they were invented by Anton Loibl in Nazi Germany, and this Wikipedia entry concurs - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anton_Loibl_GmbH — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mr gobrien (talk • contribs) 16:35, 27 October 2018 (UTC)
nor are you an historian
reflectors were used in the USA before that - and likely one of the big 5 or someone has a patent on it going back to the early 1900's i'd guess — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.219.207.25 (talk) 02:00, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
There are two claims in the History Section as to who 'invented' or 'created' the 'reflector:
These conflicting claims need to be resolved through the addition of "reliable sources", or they need to be removed. Woodlot (talk) 16:17, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
"In the mid-1960’s, the Finnish Traffic Police and the Finnish Traffic Safety Organization turned to a local Finnish firm, Talousmuovi (“Household Plastic” in translation), in order to obtain a reflector that could be used by pedestrians. As a result of product development, a product was created that was officially approved by the authorities as a safety device" Source: https://visibelreflective.wordpress.com/2014/09/24/reflectors-in-traffic-a-brief-history/
"He [Arvi] had the idea to glue together two reflective panels for trailers and to use a safety pin and a piece of string to hang it from a jacket – the very first pedestrian reflector was born." Source: https://www.safetyreflector.fi/our-story (Coreflect is Coreplast Oy brand)
Why is Coreplast Oy and Safety Reflector Finland Oy site relevant? Arvi Lehti established Talousmuovi Oy and in 1955 name is shortened to TALMU Oy. In 1983 TALMU Oy was sold to German Hella KGaA Hueck & Co. and name is changed to Hella Lighting Finland Oy. Finally 2006 TALMU part of Hella was sold to Coreplast Laitila Oy and 2016 it changes name to Safety Reflector Finland Oy.
