Summaries[edit]

Everyone responsible for designing and writing the content here did an "Amazing" job. Great work. I never got to watch the first season, but could you share here what did the team did that recieved the 24 hour "death penalty"? --12.9.33.203 13:40, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Since I have Season 1 on divx, I'm going to add the leg summaries one-by-one. --Madchester 00:23, 2005 May 12 (UTC)

That, indeed, is what I'm doing as well... only watching one ep a day (which should lead me to the end of TAR7 right before TAR8 starts), but I'll see if I can find any more information if I'm behind you. --SonicAD 02:00, 12 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent... someone can proofread my additions in case I miss something! Also it's a pain in the ass, cuz they didn't label a lot of the locations, so i have no clue how to spell some of them. Took me like 10 mins. to figure out that pit stop in Italy cuz Phil says it so fast. --Madchester 03:09, 2005 May 12 (UTC)

Table[edit]

How are we basing the table placings? It's on the order teams leave each pit stop right? Cuz there were A LOT of major production difficulties/penalties in Season 1 and it couldn't be dealt with behind the scenes. Like in Season 7, M+G's cameraman lost them for a good hour in India so they earned a time credit, but it was never announced on air. --Madchester 03:19, 2005 May 12 (UTC)

I think it should be in the order they leave the pit stop, and it seems to be that way in all of the tables for other seasons EXCEPT for one that I'm not certain of (ep 2 of TAR6, which I'm fairly positive is right but if no one else checks I'll get to when I watch that,). Today I changed the 9th leg for TAR1 since that was showing Guido in 5th and Momily in 4th, which though being the order in which they arrived wasn't their actual finishing position. --SonicAD 03:52, 12 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

What is the Amazing Race?[edit]

As far as I know this show never aired in the UK, where I live. I found the page through Jerry Bruckheimer's and was curious at the extent and content of his TV work. However, this page, whilst providing what appears to be considerable detail on the minutiae, doesn't actually tell me what the gameshow's set-up is, what the contestants have to do, why they have to do it, etc. Could someone in the know write a paragraph for the completely ignorant such as myself. If you've all been inspired to own it and write about it, presumably the concept is pretty good. Thanks. Phil --82.38.226.155 09:50, 4 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

There's a link to The Amazing Race in the introductory sentence of this article...lol. --Madchester 17:28, September 4, 2005 (UTC)

Roadblocks completed[edit]

Anyone got the DVD and can make a list of who does the Roadblock that was not shown in the first episode? I am trying to get the "Roadblocks completed" column in this article, in accordance to the other TAR seasons. The subtotals, without the unaired task, are: Rob 5, Brennan 6; Frank 8, Margarita 3; Joe 6, Bill 4; Kevin 5, Drew 4; Nancy 2, Emily 6; Lenny 2, Karyn 4; Paul 2, Amie 1; Dave 2, Margaretta 0; Pat 1, Brenda 0; Kim 1, Leslie 0; Matt 0, Ana 0Cabus

Not sure how to answer this...here's the "clue" for the ostrich-egg roadblock:
"Before continuing, one of you must perform the task ahead. Choose before you open the sealed card"
"One of you must cook a bowlful of this African delicacy. With the help of your teammate, eat it all before checking in at the Songwe village fire pit."
So the "with the help of your teammate" bit makes it hard to tell who's doing the roadblock, but here's what I could tell:
Rob + Brennan: Fast forwarded; did not do roadblock
Frank + Margarita: Frank did the whole task
Matt + Ana, Pat + Brenda: Not featured in segment
Nancy + Emily: Emily was the one who said she'd do it but Nancy ate some too
All other teams: Both players took part; not sure who chose to do it
The roadblock is found on disc 4 of the DVD if anyone would like to check my work
In short, the idea of a roadblock as a 1-person task was not entirely developed in the first leg...which may be part of the reason they didn't air it

Thank you Tim. I guess I will not include it in the article, then. -Cabus

Vatican City flag[edit]

Could we get the Vatican City flag on the Tunisia-Italy leg for the unaired fast forward? Already done. Anchorage 00:21, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What Song[edit]

At the end when Rob and Brennan are racing to the finish line, what is the song that is played? It sounds like the theme of Russell Crowes Gladiator but i'm not sure

removal of "trivia"[edit]

I'm not disagreeing that some of the notes given are trivia. However, as some of these are facts about otherwise non-notable people that have run the race that have appeared in the news briefly (death, marriage, etc.), outright removal is not reasonable. Reordering or something along those lines is needed, which can be done, something that I don't have time for at the immediate present. --MASEM (t) 13:03, 25 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's the issue, said racers are non-notable outside of the Race and don't qualify for their own articles. The page is not suppose to be some FAQ and we're not suppose to be putting sporadic updates on the main Race article - and it has been tagged for trivia details since November 2008. We already reached a consensus to aggregate appropriate news details about each season to the production and cast sections of the latter seasons... TAR1 was filmed almost 10 years ago, and these cast updates have no bearing on the original series' filming, production, results, etc. The only relevant post-Race details would be the selection of teams to All-Stars. --Madchester (talk) 16:02, 25 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
EDIT 1: I've re-organized some of those "trivia" details to the filming and cast sections. I took out most of the relationship details, since they're honestly irrelevant to the actual series, but feel free to make any suggestions of stuff that should be included. This re-write was long overdue. --Madchester (talk) 16:29, 25 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Older seasons should remove trivia per WP:INDISCRIMINATE and see Talk:The Amazing Race 12#Post-race details. ApprenticeFan talk contribs 05:18, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Something should be noted that the events of Sepetember 11, 2001 affected the airing of this show.--Cooly123 00:41, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Requested move[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: No consensus. See The Amazing Race (disambiguation) which already seems to have a pretty good way to distinguish the series that were broadcast in different countries. I confess that I couldn't follow the reasoning of the proponent, User:ApprenticeFan. He cites Talk:America's Next Top Model (cycle 1)#Requested move but that was only a minor change in the style of the names and it's unclear why it would be a precedent for this proposal. In the first paragraph of WP:TVSEASON there is a special mention of The Amazing Race 8 as a suitable name for a program cycle. EdJohnston (talk) 19:08, 18 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

((requested move/dated))

– Similar move proposal decision to what had it done to Talk:America's Next Top Model (cycle 1)#Requested move per WP:TV-NAME. Seasons 8, 11 and 18 are still keeping their names while retaining their individual names (Family Edition, All-Stars and Unfinished Business). ApprenticeFan work 01:36, 9 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment - Since seasons 8, 11 and 18 are officially given Family Edition, All-Stars and Unfinished Business as an individual names. For example, cycles 17-20 of America's Next Top Model uses All-Stars, British Invasion, College Edition and Guys & Girls are official given names and still use "cycle" in some sources. But season 8 is suggesting rename the article move (The Amazing Race 8 to The Amazing Race: Family Edition), which is an official name, including some sources such as Google with 46.4 hits. While season 11 consider on renaming The Amazing Race 11 to The Amazing Race: All-Stars, though has 87.4 Ghits as well. The "Unfinished Business" season is a less commonly used in some sources, but only a fewer 207,000 hits. In addition, the only season of The Amazing Race Philippines, one Filipino editor had moved on to follow with season articles for any obvious naming standards in WP:NC-TV. [2], this were did in November 1 and 2, 2012: (Changing article title to conform with Wikipedia standards.), (WP:Naming_conventions_(television)#Season_articles trumps any other capricious reasons; this naming convention should be followed in other TAR-related articles) ApprenticeFan work 05:36, 14 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that's not at all what you have listed above. You clearly have written out "The Amazing Race 8 → The Amazing Race (U.S. season 8)". Now I'm just confused my your proposal. Are you going to rename ALL of them or just the three with extra names? I'm all for renaming 8, 11 and 18, but not for adding the arbitrary (U.S. season #) to the end. 174.1.50.249 (talk) 20:09, 14 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The official names are not terribly relevant anyway, according to article naming policy, which of course is what all arguments here should be refer to, and which by implication all contibutors should read before discussing RMs. Andrewa (talk) 21:34, 16 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there! Thank you for nominating this article to GA. Unfortunately, I will have to quickfail this article because it is a long way from meeting the good article criteria. Here are some recommendations to make the article better:

I noticed that you nominated 3 other articles that are seasons of The Amazing Race, unfortunately, those articles also have the same problems as this, so I will be quickfailing them, too. If you need help, I recommend utilizing WP:Peer review and referencing other Good Articles of similar subjects, like Survivor: Cook Islands. I also see that the article would need some copyediting so that it's clearer; you can ask the Guild of Copy Editors. And if you have questions, the WP:Teahouse is welcome to help you. Cheers!
