I am in the process of creating the article for Col. William A. "Bill" Campbell. It is at this point in time a stub-level article. I invite other editors to help improve and expand it. Stevenmg (talk) 01:39, 17 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The 1944 portrait of William A. "Bill" Campbell by Betsy Graves Reyneau hangs in the National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC. Shouldn't that be mentioned w/ a photo of the portrait? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.205.54.20 (talk) 16:48, 6 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
MadmanBot flagged this article as possibly violating the copyright of the Campbell, William A. page of the SNAC project. However, that site had duplicated verbatim the biographical information for Col. Campbell from the Guide to the William A. Campbell Papers created by the University of California Riverside Libraries, which is one of the sources that I had cited during the initial creation of the article. Unfortunately, a malformed ref name resulted in most of the inline citations not functioning correctly at the time that the MadmanBot examined the article. I removed the warning that User:MadmanBot added after fixing the malformed inline citations and after adding additional content citing other sources. If you believe I have done so in error, please let me know. Stevenmg (talk) 23:57, 16 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Thanks for continuing to work on this - the issue isn't in the citation, but in the duplication of language from another source. The bot is attracted by similarities in language like this: "On June 2, 1943 Campbell was among the group of soldiers that served as wingmen to pilots of the 33rd Fighter Group in the first combat mission for the 99th Pursuit Squadron in WWII" in the article to "On June 2, 1943 Campbell was among the group of soldiers that served as wingmen to pilots of the 33rd Fighter Group in the first combat mission for 99th pilots in WWII" in the source. We can't copy content like that unless we are able to verify that is public domain or compatibly licensed. (And, if it is, our Wikipedia:Plagiarism requires that we acknowledge we are copying.) Certainly, the information is free for use, but it has to be put in original language. I see that the material has been properly paraphrased since. --Moonriddengirl(talk)17:08, 23 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
