Concern has been expressed about requiring klatsch members to set their user "Internationalisation" preference to "She edits wiki pages." However, I know that some editors who identify as men are members of the Category:Female Wikipedians.
My number one goal in creating this group was to have a safe place for women Wikipedia editors to get together. By "safe" I mean free of worry that men ("cisgender" men and persons who do not identify as women, who together make up 85% to 90% of WP editors) will overrun discussions with their advice, criticism, and explanations. By "women" I mean persons who were born with female genitalia or who identify as women.
I do not believe we can assume that all women who set their Internationalisation preference to "I prefer not to say" have done so because gender is irrelevant to them as an editor. Some have done so to avoid sexist and sometimes hostile treatment. I did so myself for a time, but I reached a point where I wanted to "come out" as a woman editor - to be, if not proud, at least unafraid. I believe some women editors feel the same way, and that's why I created this group.
So my question is, should we keep the preference "She edits wiki pages" as one of the "I am a woman" pledge criteria? Lightbreather (talk) 20:01, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
My first impulse on that distinction was simply, "I self-identify as a woman." Maybe "I self-identify primarily as a woman" is another plain-English way to say it. This is just the kind of detail that many editors like to consider, so I'm throwing it out there. Also, FWIW, I know my ignorance may be showing, but my question is GF. I am a cisgender, straight, older woman with a bachelor's degree - not in human sexuality - and love and concern for others in my heart, that's all. Lightbreather (talk) 20:44, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
With gamergate and gaming popping up in discussions around the project, I thought I'd share these sources about the Tampon Run game. I don't even want to poke a hornet's nest bringing it up in the currently prickly climate, but perhaps, one day, it will be worth an article, or a section in an article about women's gaming. It could be a fun diversion if you're accustomed to working in other subject areas.

(help)Bless the techie young women. I'm past the tampon run days, but I think this sounds hysterically funny - and empowering! Lightbreather (talk) 19:57, 14 February 2015 (UTC) --Lightbreather (talk) 19:57, 14 February 2015 (UTC)
@Smirkybec, Kmccook, DaltonHird, and Jane023: Since this space I set up is a test, and a sub-page of my user page, I'm not sure what kinds of notices you get when something is posted here. For instance, I just created a little discussion about the Tampon Run game. I have pinged you outright just to ask: Do you have the main klatsch page, User:Lightbreather/Kaffeeklatsch, and/or this talk page (User talk:Lightbreather/Kaffeeklatsch) on your watchlists? Did you get a notice when I created the recent discussion? (An interesting little topic, but mostly posted as a test to see how this space is going to work.)
I would appreciate a reply, if for no other reason than to get a better idea of how to make this work.
Also, if you have any feedback on the deeper discussions above, that would be appreciated, too. Thanks. Lightbreather (talk) 20:07, 14 February 2015 (UTC)
I had a red notice when I logged in. I am not sure if I got a direct e-mail. Don't think so.Kmccook (talk) 17:03, 15 February 2015 (UTC)
Mark this as historical if you want. WP:G13 isn't remotely applicable here, Joesom333. Or go MfD it again if you feel so strongly. Don't put bullshit CSD tags because you didn't get your way with PROD. This wastes everyone's time. Chess (talk) (please use ((reply to|Chess))
