I have not closed this earlier, and no one has picked up the ball, since I expressed a preference in some earlier discussions. Category:Decades in Spain goes back to Category:1180s in Spain, though then and for nearly four more centuries a combo of numerous sovereign governance entities, with dramatic swings in predominant religions and gains and losses in European and global empire, that were not united under one crown and established as one entity named Spain until the 16th century. Before this the 'Spanish' Americas (including geographic California) and portions of the Iberian Peninsula were under the Crown of Castile, while European and other Iberian domaines were under the Crown of Aragon.
Category:Decades in Mexico goes back to the Category:1420s in Mexico, though it had been through various named world renowned and smaller indigenous civilizations, then the colonial era as New Spain under the Crown of Castile in 1521, before officially named Mexico with independence in 1821.
Category:Decades in Russia goes back to Category:1110s in Russia, though not known by that then and through many name changes since, it has only been called Russia (with various adjuncts) since 1547. Over the centuries before and since, through all its governance systems, and gains and losses of empire/iron curtain territories in Asia, Europe, and western North America, all 'by year/decade/century categories use the geographic Russia term. Even through the period named the Soviet Union, except for Category:1940s in the Soviet Union, it's still Russia by decade/year from the 1917 to 1991 existence of the USSR.
Category:Decades in the United States goes back to the Category:1700s in the United States, so that one can cross-compare the colonizing events and impacts on Native Americans by Great Britain, France, Russia, and Spain (and others), and evolving American expansionism, upon what became the present day U.S. section of the continent.
Oppose changing to [:Category:1760s in Alta California]. Alta California is only a historically accurate name for the latter Spanish colonial period 1804—1821, and Mexican period 1821—1846. However, physical Spanish colonial presence began in 1769. Furthermore, their presence ended in the northern S.F. Bay Area, with colonial Russians active from 1812 to 1842 just up the coast, who did not use the Spanish name.
Oppose changing to Category:1760s in New Spain . New Spain included the Caribbean Spanish West Indies and Asian Spanish East Indies. Nominator's rationale: At present, this category is limited to "theatrical shows created especially to go on tour." I recommend that the article be renamed to match the Touring theatre article and therefore be expanded to include entries such as touring theatre companies (ex. That assumes that Kingston is validly categorized as a "city in the New York metropolitan area". I dispute that. it's too far away from the city to be a realistic commute; as such Ulster residents do not have to pay the extra sales tax to support mass transit that Orange and Dutchess residents pay. Ulster residents also have to pay extra for their copies of the New York Times.
