- Propose renaming Category:Chinese theologians to Category:Sino-Christian theologians
- Nominator's rationale: The articles listed here are all associated with Christianity. None of them are associated with other religious traditions (unless you count Maoism or Confucianism as religions)FatalSubjectivities (talk) 11:54, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

- Support Category:Chinese Christian theologians, given that all the member pages are about Christians; Wu Leichuan was a Confucian in his youth, but converted and became notable as a Christian theologian. Naturally, a parent category can be re-created if later there are pages about Chinese theologians other than Christians. – Fayenatic London 15:44, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

- The result of the discussion was: rename (option 2). Slight concensus over option 1, and in line with the discussion Fayneatic London mentioned. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 20:22, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

- Nominator's rationale: Some time ago, it was determined that Category:LGBT poets was large enough to need diffusion by nationality, but the categories got created on two different naming conventions: some are "Nationality LGBT poets", and others are "LGBT poets from Country". The challenge here, further, is that this can't just be speedied on C2C grounds, as there are also conflicting conventions in play depending on which parent tree you want to follow: if you want to ride the "LGBT writers" track then that pushes you to "LGBT poets from Country", but if you want to walk down the "Nationality poets" path then you get to "Nationality LGBT poets".
So there needs to be a consensus one way or the other on which parent convention these categories should follow, with one or the other of these two sets getting renamed accordingly. Bearcat (talk) 16:20, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
- Option 2 - 'from America' is out of sync with Category:American writers and Category:American people and is only used (for some reason) in the LGBT tree. Oculi (talk) 21:29, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
- Both options are an improvement over the status quo. Was there ever a specific reason to use "LGBT writers from Country" instead of "Nationality LGBT writers"? If not, option 2 is preferable and the writers should be nominated too. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:46, 28 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
- It's all the way down from Category:LGBT people by nationality. I don't recall any attempts at cfd to address this anomaly. Oculi (talk) 07:41, 28 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
- I don't recall that there ever was a specific reason to go with "LGBT people from X" instead of "Xian LGBT people" — if there was one, it's left my memory banks. Rather, it was much more likely just a byproduct of the fact that there was a lot less consistency about the "demonym" vs. "from country" issue 15 years ago than there is today. But like Oculi, I can remember no instances of anybody actually batching a CFD nomination to rename them, either — I think the possibility has been discussed once or twice, but nobody's ever actually tackled a comprehensive batch discussion that I can recall. Bearcat (talk) 12:48, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
- While I think of it, a batch nomination is close to undoable in this case because it can not be semi-automated. In contrast to most batch nominations this is not a matter of consistently replacing one (set of) word(s) by another (set of) word(s). Marcocapelle (talk) 06:05, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
- Option 1, so it's clear what "Congolese" (DR Congo or Republic of the Congo) or "Dominican" (Dominica or the Dominican Republic) mean. I'm in favor of always doing this. ―Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 09:31, 28 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
- Option 2 to be consistent with the rest of the Category:People by nationality hierarchy. The guidelines at Wikipedia:Category names#Nationality and occupation specify this. "Congolese" and "Dominican" are not used because of ambiguity, but Category:Democratic Republic of the Congo people etc. "From" is used only in rare cases such as Georgia (country) and Saba (island) where we add a qualifier in parentheses, and for former countries with compound names such as Russian Empire. Only LGBT and Category:Twin people by nationality currently use "from" for all countries rather than the adjectival form, and these should be changed throughout. For those who support Option 1, I suggest opening an RfC to change the guideline, after which everything from the top down would be changed. Unless and until there is a change in consensus over that, there is no justification for LGBT or twins to have a different naming convention. – Fayenatic London 10:55, 28 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
- Option 1 Down with the tyranny of demonyms. Laurel Lodged (talk) 15:27, 28 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
- Surely "no consensus" would be the worst possible outcome of this discussion. Either of the two proposed options should be implemented. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:15, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

- I have nominated the Twin people set at 2022 Oct 6 to use demonyms, which would leave only LGBT people categories as an outlier. – Fayenatic London 14:31, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Option 1 I must agree with Laurel Lodged! It's always better to use "from", so "down with the tyranny of demonyms".--౪ Santa ౪99° 23:03, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

/support to my !vote. In mono-ethnic nation-states with significant minorities (East and South-East Europe, for instance), there is a chance to discriminate against citizens of Foo on ethnic basis, especially with editors with low sensibility for ethno-national identity. Such contributors could use category to categorize only main ethnicity of Foo whose ethnic name is the same as name of the nation-state (I had experience regarding List of Foo-an painters), while disregarding others, all the while including items that don't belong at all just because they are Foo-ans never-mind from where. This could pose a potentially significant reason for disputes and disruptions.--౪ Santa ౪99° 23:21, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
- Both - On the second thought I agree with Marcocapelle, we need both (my comment still stands as a cautionary note.)--౪ Santa ౪99° 23:42, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
