- Nominator's rationale: WP:SMALLCAT for just one person. Navigation of the pedia is in no way facilitated by obsessively sifting everything down into granularized microcategories of one -- this would be fine if there were a lot of notable military personnel to file here, but if there's only one then there's no need to categorize him any more specifically than the merge target. Obviously no prejudice against recreation in the future if and when there are five or ten people to file here, but it's not needed for just one person. - Nominator's rationale: Single-entry WP:SMALLCAT of unclear necessity. This is essentially just duplication of other categories that already exist, such as Category:American women novelists and Category:American women short story writers -- since virtually all fiction is either novels or short stories by definition, those other categories already cover off women who write fiction without needing this to coexist alongside them. (And, indeed, the one woman filed here is already in the novelists category alongside this anyway, so she doesn't need upmerging.) Bearcat (talk) 12:58, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

- Nominator's rationale: Single-entry WP:SMALLCAT of unclear utility. The only thing filed in here at all is the overview article homophobia itself, rather than any terminology per se -- but that article is already heading the parent category Category:Homophobia as it is, and it's not clear that the other category (which mainly comprises articles about incidents rather than terms) has enough things that could be recategorized as "terminology" to get this over the minimum size bar. Bearcat (talk) 12:41, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- For example, it is for feminism: Category:Feminist terminology. Just like it, we should add this category to the articles related to the subject. I see no reason to delete it. Gadir (talk) 15:15, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- You would need to show specific examples of other articles that could be added to this category (preferably by actually adding them to the category) before that became a reason to keep it. Just saying "we should add stuff" isn't a compelling argument if it hasn't been shown that there is any stuff to add — but as I noted in my nomination statement, the parent category Category:Homophobia consists almost entirely of incident articles rather than terminology articles. - Per WP:SMALLCAT, there still have to be more things than that before the category becomes justified. Bearcat (talk) 12:48, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

- Nominator's rationale: delete, redundant category layer with each only one subcategory; it is also an isolated series. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:58, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- Upmerge Category:15th-century rulers in South America to Category:15th-century South American people. (No need to upmerge to Category:15th-century monarchs; Category:15th-century monarchs in South America is already there).
- Upmerge Category:16th-century rulers in South America to Category:16th-century South American people. (No need to upmerge to Category:16th-century monarchs; Category:16th-century monarchs in South America is already there).
- We shouldn't be orphaning them when we can upmerge them. Cheers, Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 16:30, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- In fact the content is already in the proposed merge targets, so deletion and merger will have the same result. Marcocapelle (talk) 10:54, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- Oh. Well for metadata reasons upmerging is still favourable to deletion, right? Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 16:56, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- @Fayenatic london: can you perhaps explain what difference it makes? I thought it did not matter. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:28, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- In these cases I can't see that there would be any difference. I think Cydebot used to state the target category for a merge in the deletion log entry (edit summary), but the current CFD bot run by JJMC89 does not do so, perhaps because of the difficulty of recording multiple targets – however, it does link to the CFD discussion, which is sufficient. The only other reason for agreeing a merge is just in case any other editor were to move any other contents into the nominated categories between the date of the nomination and its implementation. – Fayenatic London 10:37, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
