Non-free logo being used in Faroe Islands Football Association. File has a non-free use rationale for that particular usage and the rationale seems OK except for a dead source link. The problem (if it really is a problem) is the same file (only difference is the file format) was uploaded to Commons as File:Faroebadge.tif. I tagged the Commons version with c:Template:Copyvio, but it was reviewed by an Commons OTRS volunteer/administrator who converted the licensing to c:Template:PD-shape. I asked the Commons admin about this and he verified the licensing. This means that the non-free version no longer satisfies WP:NFCC#1 and probably should be deleted. I was going to tag for speedy per WP:F8, but the format is different. I was also going to replace the non-free with the Commons version and let it get deleted per WP:F5, but I figured I'd ask about it here first. Which of the two files is of a better quality? Should the licensing of the non-free to ((PD-logo)) and the file tagged with ((Copy to Wikimedia Commons)) instead of deleting it? -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:07, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

What do you suggest be done then Jo-Jo Eumerus? Two Commons administrators reviewed the logo and decided that it was simple enough for public domain. I'm not necessarily saying I'm in total agreement with them, but I don't think a deletion review is going to get very far on Commons and we cannot do much about that file from Wikipedia. So, if we assume (a big if perhaps) that the Commons' licensing is correct, then there is no need for a non-free version per WP:NFCC#1, is there? If we try and keep one as free and one as non-free, then it's possible that we are going to have what is essentially the same image (the only difference being in file type and licensing) being used in multiple articles related to the team. We may end up have the non-free being used in "Faroe Islands Football Association" and the free one being used pretty much everywhere else. To anyone unaware of the different licenses, the files are going to seem to be identical and therefore interchangeable. I'm not sure if that really a workable option since it seems like it will only may things more confusing, not only for Faroe Island stuff, but for the usage of other similar logos. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:51, 25 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free logo being used in UNB Varsity Reds and University of New Brunswick. Files has a non-free use rationale for the former, but no rationale for the latter so WP:NFCC#10c is not satisfied for that particular usage. I don't think a valid rationale can be written for the article about the university per WP:NFCC#8 and No. 17 of WP:NFC#UUI, but the logo seems to be simple enough to be eligible for ((PD-logo)) or at least ((PD-USonly)). I am the original poster of the image. My comments from the talk page read -> While I do not disagree that may be the norm I think the image, which clearly reads "Campaign to Regulate Marijuana like Alcohol" is significant. One reason it is significant is that the image does not say cannabis. Another reason the image is significant is that the same slogan is being used all across the US in an attempt to change other state laws. Given the subject matter of the article (marijuana tourism) and this Colorado campaign's significance in being the impetus to change laws around the world; I believe the logo should be prominently placed on this page. --Potguru (talk) 19:37, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The picture is therefore copyrighted in the United States.   The parts about publication in the United States are irrelevant as USA doesn't seem to be the country of first publication. Also, the picture was not in the public domain in the source country in 1996 as Leonetto Cappiello had not yet been dead for 70 years at that time (the copyright term in the source country). Thus, the copyright expires 95 years after publication in the United States.
