Dubious that this crosses the threshold of originality — thinking it's PD. Simple geometry, solid colors, font not too special. DemonDays64 (talk) 01:44, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Lead images of White Christmas (song)

I uploaded a sheet music of White Christmas (song), preferably one of earliest editions, as part of lead infobox. However, I wasn't sure whether to replace the long-standing image of a side label of the 1942 78-RPM shellac record release. With WP:NFCC#3a and WP:NFCC#8, I'm taking both sheet music and side label here instead because... I'm torn between the two images as a more suitable lead image.

Understandably, picture sleeves and any other pictorial visuals have had mass appeal over the years. However, I'm uncertain whether I should use a sheet music's cover art. Both sheet music and 1942 recording of the song were best-sellers, but recordings have had more mass appeal than sheet music. In this case, the recording may have had sold better than the sheet music. Technically and logically, the side label should be the sole lead image because recordings like that one were prominent and because displaying the recording release itself should help readers see how a recording was labelled. Furthermore, I think more customers of that time must have enjoyed hearing Crosby's 1942 recording than using a sheet music to perform the song themselves with any available instrument. Because of sheet musics' waning popularity especially either at the time and/or over the years thereafter, I was too reluctant to replace the side label with a sheet music. However, cover arts of any media (e.g. posters, picture sleeves) have far greater mass appeal over the years, especially to editors, than I can possibly imagine. If the sheet music can please and is more preferable to everyone, then let's go for the sheet music's cover. However, I'll see how this discussion goes... The three audio samples are used at not only their own respective song articles (Bad (Michael Jackson song), Dirty Diana, The Way You Make Me Feel) but also the album article Bad (album). Somehow, those files lack rationales for usage in the album article. I could have boldly removed the samples from the album article, but the articles transcluding the samples are Good Articles. I'm listing the samples here instead. WP:NFCC#10c is resolvable in no time, but what matters more is each sample's compliance with WP:NFCC#8, especially when used in more than one article. George Ho (talk) 12:59, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As I just found out, the FAC nomination was rejected partially because someone had concerns about the audio samples. George Ho (talk) 23:45, 27 December 2020 (UTC); edited, 23:46, 27 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

There is no critical commentary on this particular image and it is not used to increase understanding of the subject. Fails NFCC#8. Hummerrocket (talk) 18:58, 19 December 2020 (UTC); 19:03, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@George Ho: Yes, I'd appreciate if you could do that. Thanks! Hummerrocket (talk) 20:50, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
All merged (i.e. changed from this revision). For mass nomination, there are instructions at WP:FFD#Instructions for listing files for discussion. Twinkle is not suitable for mass-noms, unfortunately, so you may want to manually use ((subst:ffd2a)) instead. George Ho (talk) 21:01, 19 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think that almost all of the images on the Sopranos episode articles fail the NFCC#8 criteria, so we should look into deleting those as well. Hummerrocket (talk) 16:05, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
