The result of the discussion was keep at Beer#Society and culture. Deryck C. 12:50, 28 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This word means "study of beer and beer brewing". So, this is probably a good WP:REDLINK candidate, besides the fact that the word is not mentioned in the target article. Either that, or I would imagine that there is probably a retargetting option for this redirect, but I cannot find one at the moment. Steel1943 (talk) 18:44, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

In the absence of a specific article, a redirect to the broader topic is appropriate. Andrew327 21:04, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

*Delete as WP:RFD#D2 confusing: not at target. "Zyth" is nearer Middle English to "said", "saith", "sayeth", and nothing to do with beer, which has a long history in both Germanic and Latinate languages of being called, er, beer (German: bier, Italian: birra, French: bière, et cetera ad nauseam: the odd one out is Spanish: cerveza). WP:FORRED. Although it looks like it might be Ancient greek language, isn't: I blow my zither at this. Si Trew (talk) 21:25, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@SimonTrew: It is Greek. Check out wikt:zythology. -- Tavix (talk) 21:38, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@SimonTrew: You're welcome to verify it. See wikt:Wiktionary:Requests for verification. -- Tavix (talk) 21:55, 15 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Just was tidying mine above, not substanatial change just usual ce's on my part. I shall try to verify it. But it is kinda for you to prove that it is, not for me to show that itisn't: a hard task to ask. Si Trew (talk) 22:01, 15 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Here's the source that the Wiktionary entry uses. -- Tavix (talk) 22:14, 15 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm aware of that. My dictionaries are all at the new place, unfortuinately, so I can't check it in print. (Except a big Collins-Robert French, which hasn't it, with very few entries for Z and the last finishing at Zulu.) I understand that Macmillan says from Ancient Greek zythos 'beer', and logos study.
But wouldn't this be better then as a soft redirect to Wiktionary? Zythos is a DAB to several lepidopterae, moths particularly, and no entries for beer. That's the quandary. Although I wonder how someone can name something the "obliterated moth" Zythos obliterata, and things like that, I like to imagine some chap with an enormous butterfly net or perhaps a great big pair of boots, stamping around obliterating them, but unfair on old Z. o., all the same. None of the entries I looked up from that DAB has an ((ety)) from Greek or indeed any, unfortunately. Si Trew (talk)
My gsearch for me brings up mainly the study of beer, notably (or rather not: here at Anheuser-Busch's website where it has a pseudo definition.) Since Anheuser-Busch thinks that they can make a beer from rice, as if it were a sake , – which lovers of a bottle such as me know that technically whatever its lede says, is usually translated as Rice wine but the distinction usually is that it is not a wine but a beer because it comes from grain alcohol -> ethanol, not [[fruit alcohol].
– I will not take AB's definition as a WP:RS let alone that even were I, it would be a WP:PRIMARYSOURCE. Si Trew (talk) 23:38, 15 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • I hadn't, because I have been moving house and not been on Wikipedia much. However, I am happy to go along withg that consensus. Weakening mine to abstain for that reason. Si Trew (talk) 09:00, 24 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I thought that this was another name for mead. But, either way, I am unable to find any reference associating this term with beer, mead, or any other specific topic. The only topics I am finding on search engines are non-notable restaurants. Steel1943 (talk) 18:00, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The title could make the reader believe that they are going to arrive to an article about cranberry juice and raspberry juice mixed, and that is not the case. In fact, such a mix is not even mentioned in the article. Steel1943 (talk) 04:23, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Comment. 67.70, Cranberry juice is an article but Raspberry juice is red. Oh, what a palaver! (or perhaps a pal, a guava juiceguava.) We don't seem to be very consistent with these. Orange juice is an article, OJ is rightly a DAB at which it is the first entry. I think you're wrong, then, in the general comment to say that the juice should redirect to the fruit. Lemon juiceLemon, where as I would more likely R it to citric acid. Citrus fruit juice is red. Lime juiceLime (fruit). Mango juiceMango. Taking Ockham's razor, I need not enumerate, but on that small random example many seem to go to the fruit, some to an article specifically about the juse, and some are red. Si Trew (talk) 08:37, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
probably best you put the lime in the coconut and call me in the morning.... (singing again) Si Trew (talk) 08:40, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hadn't noticed that, actually. That is a case of is it called eye glide? Most typos go unnoticed (in real life) because the human brain is so good at pattern matching it automatically corrects it without one's conscious seeing it. Si Trew (talk) 00:53, 16 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty sure this is nonsense. It's not mentioned at "Karaoke" and Google isn't helping me figure this out. -- Tavix (talk) 02:32, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Would it, or would it be an instruction to "Sing K" on the chromatic scale, as if I had any idea what I am talking about, having learned only to play a battered old bugle and an ill-tempered klavier. I can get a tune out of a line printer, though. Si Trew (talk) 12:36, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

However this doesn't really fit the pattern, and I don't know of any place in East Anglia called Saltea. Oddly, gsearching for "Saltea, East Anglia" gives me results in Italian. Si Trew (talk) 08:45, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

In the target article's present state, this redirect isn't helpful as he's not mentioned anywhere. It'd be pretty easy to add a cited mention to the page, but I'm not sure where or if that's a good idea. Thoughts? -- Tavix (talk) 01:30, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It's not an acronym, it's an initialism. Either that or I am a pedant. Si Trew (talk) 12:56, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
My same tooth-grinding applies to #LMMAO above. You would think it would, indeed I seem vaguely to remember that LMAO is recorded in the Oxford English Dictionary now, but that's not WP:RS as they have always described words rather that prescribed them. (DOI: about twenty years ago I used to submit, by post, before the days of email and stuff, slips with entries into the Longman Dictionary of New Words.) Delete per WP:R#D8. This acronym isn't mentioned at LOL or anywhere else on Wikipedia. It's supposed to be "Falling out of Tree Laughing" but why would the speaker be in a tree? -- Tavix (talk) 00:20, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Changing rationale to retarget to Foot Locker per my conversation with Steel1943 below. -- Tavix (talk) 15:50, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Oh we do, I just tagged it as ((R from plural)) (bleachers). It did not come up on a search for me though. Si Trew (talk) 13:24, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Tavix: I noticed that as well, but I noticed both; some had it listed as "FL", and some listed it as "FOOTL". Steel1943 (talk) 15:01, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'd be fine with that solution. I don't know enough about finance to figure out why that is, so I'll just leave it at that. -- Tavix (talk) 15:12, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Tavix: See this reference. I guess it depends on the country where this company is represented. Steel1943 (talk) 15:45, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That makes more sense than anything else I've seen on the subject. Thanks for the research. -- Tavix (talk) 15:50, 14 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
