Redirect left over from a template that was mistakenly created in article space. No incoming links as this was a very recent creation. CSD R2 is inapplicable for redirects from article space to template space. Safiel (talk) 23:13, 26 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Uploading and downloading

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was histmerge "Uploading and downloading" to Upload, delete "uploading or downloading". There is unanimous consensus that these redirects should be changed, with a strong majority favouring removal. As an old version of "uploading and downloading" was cut-and-pasted for both upload and download, a histmerge is necessary and the discussion below suggested that the more plausible successor article is upload. Deryck C. 11:24, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Between 2002 and 2013, there was an article called "Uploading and downloading." In 2013, the article was deleted and the content was split between the articles for Upload and Download. Prior to the 2013 deletion, "uploading or downloading" targeted "uploading and downloading." The original target for both of these was download, but in the week following the deletion, an editor changed the target of "uploading and downloading" to upload (no explanation was given in the edit summary). I think that choosing either upload or download as a target over the other would be more confusing to readers than it would be helpful, so I think we should delete both these redirects. Notecardforfree (talk) 19:28, 26 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I changed the redirect to upload - I guess I did it because it was the first word in the sentence. Uploading and downloading contains the history and may not be deleted unless upload and download are deleted too. (but it can be moved, merge, etc.). However, I think the articles (upload/download) should be merged back to the original article (upload and download). Christian75 (talk) 19:47, 26 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Christian75, I couldn't find a discussion about why the article was split back in 2013. It looks like an editor named Sejel may have made the decision unilaterally (and without discussing the split on the article's talk page), but I presume they wanted to avoid a WP:CONTENTFORK with the existing articles for upload and download. However, it looks like they haven't edited on Wikipedia since 2013. If you think the best course of action is merging the articles for upload and download, then I am fine with that too. -- Notecardforfree (talk) 19:58, 26 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also, I weak oppose the article being restored. The terms "upload" and "download" have specifically different meanings when used as nouns, so thus, grouping them together as so could confuse readers. I may be able to support the restoration, but only if the article received a new name; "Uploading and downloading" is too genetic. A term that could encapsulate the scope of the article would need to be determined. Steel1943 (talk) 15:29, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also, I oppose retargetting to File transfer or Data transmission since the nominated term does not have a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT target; as I stated in a previous comment in my comment thread, the terms are ambiguous when grouped together as such due to their noun forms having multiple meanings. Steel1943 (talk) 12:08, 28 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Data transmission is primary target based on the definitions in the article, but "upload" and "download" are not mentioned there. Peter James (talk) 12:33, 28 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ivanvector, if that unilateral decision is accurate, then I support fully restoring the article. -Mardus /talk 10:14, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It wouldn't bother me if the article were restored either. Having the two separate is a bit redundant, since downloading is just uploading in the other direction. However that's really a separate discussion from what to do with the redirect. Propose merging downloading into uploading, and then move it back to this title? Turn-offs

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was delete. Although only the last few opinions favour deletion, the discussion has clearly shown that the colloquial phrase "turn-offs" can mean many different concepts that are covered by Wikipedia, so deletion is the appropriate outcome. Deryck C. 11:04, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I propose retargeting this to sexual arousal, which is the current target of turn-on and turn-ons. -- Notecardforfree (talk) 19:05, 26 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Mardus, that's a good point, but there is not yet an article for the topic of turn-offs, unless it's the Dislike article, which redirects to Disgust, and there is currently no better redirect target. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 19:24, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I just moved this to Perungarai. The suffix appears to be a corruption of the name of another village, upon which we have an article, Vadakkumangudi. Does not appear to be a plausible redirect and since the article was recently created, it is orphaned. I don't see any reason to retain this. Safiel (talk) 16:03, 26 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was delete all except those still mentioned on target page. ("Ate my balls" was already deleted by RHaworth.) Deryck C. 23:43, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Discussion[edit]

All of the above used to be articles, but were merged to the target (in most cases after AfDs which concluded that these should not be standalone articles). However, the target now lists only memes/phenomena with their own articles since User:Tavix pruned it down back in August, and these aren't discussed elsewhere in Wikipedia either. Does the edit history for these need to be retained somewhere (not necessarily under the current titles) or can they be deleted outright? 210.6.254.106 (talk) 08:25, 26 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Greek word at the target, assuming the l is a J. Anyway the term does not have an affinity for Greek only, but rather is one of the sons of Noah. Legacypac (talk) 08:14, 26 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
