There is unanimous consensus that these redirects should be changed, with a strong majority favouring removal. As an old version of "uploading and downloading" was cut-and-pasted for both upload and download, a histmerge is necessary and the discussion below suggested that the more plausible successor article is upload. Between 2002 and 2013, there was an article called "Uploading and downloading." In 2013, the article was deleted and the content was split between the articles for Upload and Download. Prior to the 2013 deletion, "uploading or downloading" targeted "uploading and downloading." The original target for both of these was download, but in the week following the deletion, an editor changed the target of "uploading and downloading" to upload (no explanation was given in the edit summary). I think that choosing either upload or download as a target over the other would be more confusing to readers than it would be helpful, so I think we should delete both these redirects. I changed the redirect to upload - I guess I did it because it was the first word in the sentence. Uploading and downloading contains the history and may not be deleted unless upload and download are deleted too. (but it can be moved, merge, etc.). Christian75, I couldn't find a discussion about why the article was split back in 2013. It looks like an editor named Sejel may have made the decision unilaterally (and without discussing the split on the article's talk page), but I presume they wanted to avoid a WP:CONTENTFORK with the existing articles for upload and download. However, it looks like they haven't edited on Wikipedia since 2013. While we usually keep redirects resulting from page moves, this is a good example of a harmful result which should be deleted, because "X and Y" type titles might equally refer to two different targets. • Comment Arabic names frustrate me because they can be transliterated literally dozens of ways. A search shows Soccerway reporting it as a first name: "El Hadji," which is also the dominant non-Wiki spelling I saw. I couldn't find any reliable info on the guy. He'd fail WP:GNG even though he's technically notable because he played for a fully professional league. I doubt someone searching "Elhadjy" without a qualifier would be looking for this guy, so I would support a retarget to Hajji, as an alternative transliteration. -- Tavix ^(talk) 17:28, 26 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

• That may or may not be a standard we want to generally allow, in the sense that we allow redirects "First Matronymic" to Hispanic names "First Patronymic Matronymic" because they're likely search terms in English. But if you want an example of this African confusion, see John Obi Mikel, where it looks like we can agree that "John" isn't his surname, but that's about all. I might suggest a low bar for such names, such as one instance in a decent (i.e., conventionally reliable or commonly consulted) source.
