Scarian[edit]

Final (116/0/0); Closed as successful by WjBscribe at 22:37, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Scarian (talk · contribs) - I’d like to nominate Scarian for adminship. He’s been here since April 2007 and has amassed over 13000 edits. He appears everywhere and clearly understands the workings of the encyclopedia. He’s a fantastic vandal fighter, and always warns appropriately, followed by reports to AIV is appropriate – he’d make good use of a block button helping to stop vandals in their tracks. Unfortunately, from his contributions, he seems to like the band Nirvana by some excellent article contributions to that page . He’s actually got some really good content additions and does a lot of wikignome tasks. His contributions to articles for creation show a great understanding of our notability criteria and this coupled with his excellent contributions to AfD’s show he understands the content side of adminship very well. He’s a regular on the reference desk and tries to help users as much as possible. Finally, I’d like to mention that I’ve always found him to be very friendly, even when I disagree with him – that’s always a good attribute for an aspiring admin. I think he’ll be fine with a couple of extra buttons, and I hope you agree. Ryan Postlethwaite 22:36, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Candidate, please indicate acceptance of the nomination here: - Thank you for the kind nomination, Ryan. ScarianCall me Pat 23:00, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Questions for the candidate[edit]

Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia as an administrator. It is recommended that you answer these optional questions to provide guidance for participants:

1. What admin work do you intend to take part in?
A: *I would like to contribute to WP:AIV as an administrator; I believe it’s an important area that often gets backlogged.
  • I would also like to divert my time towards WP:RFPP. I often travel over there to see how the process is being handled and do often notice backlogs.
  • I have some experience with dealing with incidents over at WP:ANI and would be happy to continue in an administrative capacity.
  • I would also like to spend some time at WP:3RRN and WP:UAA, as I believe they are areas that can become neglected.

2. What are your best contributions to Wikipedia, and why?
A: *I’ve had a rather generalised “career” here at Wikipedia. In terms of article writing, I think the Hebridean Brewing Company is my proudest achievement; I took it from a stub all the way to a B-Class article. With help from a couple of I.P. addresses I have also created and significantly expanded RotoHog. More information on my article writing experience can be found here.
  • Strangely, I find it satisfying to attempt to clear out back logs. I’ve had a stab at Category:Wikipedia articles needing copy edit and have found satisfaction in clearing out some of the articles there. I’ve also been drawn to WP:AfC and I am currently, intermittently, assessing the various back logs.
  • I have done vast amounts of anti-vandalism work which are perpetually needed but satisfying nonetheless.
  • I feel a strong sense of achievement when I offer/give help over at the WP:HELPDESK and the various reference desks.
  • Finally, I just love editing ‘’anything’’... I love what Wikipedia is... we’re creating, expanding and developing free information for generations to come. It’s a really beautiful concept and I’m just proud to be here and to be able to work with you all.

3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A: When I first started out here I ran into minor conflicts with User:ChrisB. It caused a couple of sighs from my end and it took me a while to figure out that I was in the wrong. I read the policies that he showed me and grew to appreciate his opinions and knowledge. This initial trouble opened my eyes to what Wikipedia is and what we’re trying to do here. I now do not get so angry or stressed or bothered by disagreements as I know they are a natural aspect of life. We’re working together, not against each other. Since the 8 or so months since then I haven’t been annoyed at all. If I ever find myself in that situation I’ll press the little red cross in the corner :-)
