Hi, Maxim ... thanks for the speedy close at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Ajpolino ... another support came in after you closed but still within the seven-day timestamp (13:03)... should the tally be incremented ? Best regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 13:27, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked user editing with a dynamic IP

Hi, a question for you: if I suspect that a user who is currently blocked for sockpuppetry is editing with a dynamic IP, is it worth taking action? It's unlikely the user will ever come back to the same IP so blocking won't make a difference and nothing they've done so far is excessively disruptive. Thanks. Arbitration Election

Hi! I noticed you've been elected to the Arbitration committee, and I'm looking to vote in the 2020 election. I voted in the real life election too. I have 207 mainspace edits and joined almost a year ago (December 21, 2019). Is there a link to the voting for when voting opens up? Thank you! Dswitz10734 (talk) 16:53, 3 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dswitz10734, see the description of the election process. When voting period starts (23 November), you should get a talk page message about it, including a link for the voting. You can see what was done last year in my archives. Maxim(talk) 17:03, 3 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Maxim, please see comments here. Thanks! Flibirigit (talk) 19:17, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Maxim, when you have a moment, User:Gjdorn is exhibiting the same behaviour as the above user. Thanks! Flibirigit (talk) 19:02, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Flibirigit, great minds think alike: I took a look a few hours ago and found more activity by Max Arosev. I just haven't had time yet to do the "cleanup". I'll wrap it up a bit later today. Maxim(talk) 19:43, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Maxim, when you have a moment, these IP edits are similar in nature to the above puppetmaster. Could you check please? Thanks. Flibirigit (talk) 21:51, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Flibirigit, per Checkuser policy I can't link IPs to accounts but thanks for heads up. If there's some WP:DUCK activity going on, chances there's some accounts to block. I also reverted a bunch of edits; maybe that does something to discourage the socking/logged out editing ... Maxim(talk) 22:19, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The edits of IP address 1, IP address 2, and IP address 3, seem to pass the WP:DUCKTEST in comparison to User:Max Arosev. Any thoughts? Flibirigit (talk) 15:34, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If you have a moment look at the activity of User:Rackenwag, seems a likely recurrence of this sock.18abruce (talk) 15:01, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2020 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add ((NoACEMM)) to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:39, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sig

Hi! Could you please take a moment to update your signature to modern markup? Continuing to use HTML that hasn't been valid since the 1990s adds to our WP:HTML5 cleanup load.

Current sig code:

<font face="Arial"><font color="#FF7133">Maxim</font><small><font color="blue">(talk)</font></small></font>

result:
     Maxim(talk)

Modernized:

<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="color: #FF7133;">Maxim</span><small><span style="color: blue;">(talk)</span></small></span>

result:
     Maxim(talk)

This is an easy copy-paste fix in Preferences > Signature, in the top menus. If you are interesting in helping WP migrate to clean HTML 5, see WP:LINT for various tools for finding obsolete markup, and WP:HTML5 for replacement code examples.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  00:58, 8 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I'm working on a draft for the gaming website Dexerto, and my submission was declined by a user called Eyebeller. I wanted to ask them for advice on what to change/add, but saw that you had blocked their account today.

Is there anyone else I could get in touch with now to get assistance?

Out of curiosity

I'm not actually objecting - it could for all I know very well be a reasonable unblock - but I only noticed a recent ArbCom unblock of an editor because their talk page was still on my watchlist. Doesn't ArbCom usually announce successful unblock appeals on WP:ACN? Or maybe that's only for non-run-of-the-mill cases, and you guys unblock a lot more people that I thought? --Floquenbeam (talk) 19:25, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Floquenbeam, we announce successful appeals at WP:ACN if there are restrictions imposed as part of the unblock. If there are no restrictions on the editor, then there is no announcement and the thinking there is that are often enough cases where publicizing such unblocks isn't a good idea (think sockpuppetry but one account uses a real name). Recently most appeal closes go through me, so you can see who we've been unblocking in my block log where it marked as "successful appeal to the Arbitration Committee" (except Eyebeller, I used a different summary because of ... a brain cramp? I should've used the standard one.) Note that we've worked through a considerable backlog of appeals since the new year, so the number of unblocks isn't really representative of a typical monthly rate. And also note that we decline many, many times more appeals than we accept. Maxim(talk) 19:32, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks. Fingers crossed this one works out, and while I'm here a hat tip for all the time-consuming work you guys do behind the curtain. --Floquenbeam (talk) 19:35, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect

The claim made here is untrue, namely the statement: The indef block in December is not based only on conduct in Kurds/Kurdistan topic area. I was blocked for making this report which administrators decided was easier to ignore and block me rather than deal with. this was the edit for which I was blocked. There isn't a shred of evidence for anything other than me being maligned for reporting the mass-POV-push that was happening all over Wikipedia's coverage of the Kurds. GPinkerton (talk) 19:26, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

These comments of yours are still there; I ask again that you remove them, as they are not correct. GPinkerton (talk) 20:16, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
GPinkerton, looking at Guerillero's comment at ANI, his reasoning for blocking you is based on a general pattern of disruption as evidenced by your talk page at the time. This pattern includes, but is not limited, to your conduct in the Kurds/Kurdistan topic area. I'm not going to remove or otherwise alter the comment you are objecting to. Maxim(talk) 20:30, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Maxim, on my talk page, Guerillero stated that I was blocked on Seeing your third attempt to reopen your closed thread an ANI, it is fairly clear to me that you are here to right great wrongs and not build an encyclopedia. No mention is made of Kurds or Kurdistan a general pattern of disruption, just posting at ANI and not being here to build an encyclopaedia. GPinkerton (talk) 20:36, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I revived a discussion that you started on my talk page from last year back in January, but I didn't hear from you. Would you mind helping me out again with this situation? Because the issues are still occurring. Yowashi (talk) 01:50, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Font tags in sig

Hi, just wondering if you would be willing to update your sig to change the font tags to span tags? The reason is that font tags are deprecated and show up at Lint errors, so it's best not to use them for new content. Thanks. -- WOSlinker (talk) 09:49, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

WOSlinker, the short answer, is no, I wish my sig to remain as is. The long answer is at an archived thread; I'd rather my signature be consistent, and if some day it's an ugly-consistent, then so be it. Has there been any effort to seek consensus for a bot task to fix such lint issues? There's over 10M such tags on user talk pages alone. Maxim(talk) 14:30, 7 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sig HTML
Current: Maxim(talk) <font face="Arial"><font color="#FF7133">Maxim</font><small><font color="blue">(talk)</font></small></font>
Proposed: Maxim(talk) <span style="font-family:Arial"><span style="color:#FF7133">Maxim</span><small><span style="color:blue">(talk)</span></small></span>
Proposed (V2): Maxim(talk) <span style="font-family:Arial"><span style="color:#FF7133">Maxim</span><small style="color:blue;">(talk)</small></span>
For now, there is a bot fixing signatures that have cause high-priority lint errors (yours is not affected). Just my $0.02, while I do understand that you want your signatures to be consistent, wouldn't it be better for you to change it now for your signature to fulfill requirements and reduce the amount of edits needed to fix the obsolete ones in future? --Minorax«¦talk¦» 04:56, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That's a difficult situation. In general, no, but if you can convince a sysadmin that you're the true owner of an account (by way of committed identity or someone else being able to vouch for you), then perhaps, but that may have been more true 15 years ago than now. Sorry I'm not of more help. Maxim(talk) 21:55, 2 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for responding. I don't know how I would go about doing that so I may be out of luck. Anyway, I also wanted to highlight User:SethRuebens who was previously banned as a sockmaster, then unbanned based on the Arbcom with a topic ban. But he's reemerged pushing the exact same issues that resulted in the block and ban in the first place. 96.255.3.81 (talk) 23:22, 2 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This is a complete untruth. I was banned after being 'outed' and having a vested interest in the article (not from 'pushing the exact same issues that resulted in the block and ban in the first place'). The committee allowed me to continue the debate on the talk page, presumably based on the fact that it's being backed by a number of academics, subject experts, thousands of members of the public and is known by hundreds of thousands of people, if not more, across the world. Continuing the debate on the talk page of Britannia, which I've been granted permission to do, in a fair and reasonable away, does not warrant a ban or posting messages on administrators' pages trying to encourage them to ban me. I'd suggest this amounts to WP:HARASS and WP:WIKIHOUNDING. SethRuebens (talk) 13:31, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
