- Template:Arab-Israeli conflict 2006 (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
This is redundant to the other templates on the subject like ((Arab-Israeli Conflict)), ((Israel-Lebanon conflict)), ((Campaignbox Arab-Israeli conflict)), ((Campaignbox Israel-Lebanon conflict)), ((Campaignbox Lebanon 2006)). Another template is the last thing we need, and it is not logical to organise the conflict by year/template in any event for both practical considerations as well as convention. - Template:European wars of the 18th century (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Extensive discussion by the Military history WikiProject has come to the consensus that these templates aren't useful, for several reasons:
- Navigation templates should link topics that have a reasonably significant relationship, while incidental or trivial similarities are better handled by lists or categories. The conflicts linked on these templates generally have no connection to one another aside from all having occurred on the same continent; there is no reason why a reader viewing one article from the template would have any reason to visit another. The material is already present in list of wars and various of its subpages.
- Where relationships between conflicts do exist, they are needlessly obscured by the strictly chronological layout and the arbitrary division by centuries here. Convention, in any case, is to use campaignbox templates to provide navigation among a true "series" of related conflicts.
- The templates are already large, and are badly incomplete; they are likely to grow to twice their present size, or more, when all the wars are finally added. This form would be uncomfortably large, and would overwhelm articles.
Hence, we ask that the templates be deleted. Kirill Lokshin 14:00, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete per nomination, and a general dislike for overly large nav templates. Carom 14:59, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
