The York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority is the combined authority for York and North Yorkshire in England.[2]

History

Legislation to establish the authority, encompassing the unitary authority areas of the City of York and North Yorkshire, was made on 19 December 2023.[3][2] The combined authority held its first meeting on 22 January 2024 and assumed its powers on 1 February 2024.[4][5]

Mayor

The first mayor of York and North Yorkshire will be elected in the 2024 York and North Yorkshire mayoral election.[6] Until then, Carl Les, leader of North Yorkshire Council and Claire Douglas, leader of the City of York Council are Co-Chairs of the combined authority with Les chairing meetings held in Northallerton and Douglas chairing meetings held in York.

Membership

The cabinet of the combined authority is made up of the Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, two members from each constituent council and the chair of the business board.
