Merced is a city in Merced County, California, United States. As of 2020, 86,333 people lived there.[6] Merced is the county seat of Merced County in the San Joaquin Valley of California.[7] Merced has the first research university built in the 21st century, University of California, Merced. UC Merced is the newest school in the University of California system.[8]
Merced runs off of the Council-Manager form of government.
