Much of the information on this page seemed to be redundant or difficult to read; hopefully it is better now. I added additional new information, most of it is from an educational website I wrote [1], sources are cited there. --Lecanard
This page should be marked as needing the attention of an expert. I don't know how to do that. 129.67.50.209 13:54, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
According to "Textbook of Biochemistry with Clinical Correlations" 6th edition, Tomas M. Delvin, page 479:
ABC transporters are present in both the plasma and intracellular membranes of mamalian cells, catalyzing either influx or efflux of various lipids ( ... ), peptides, and variety of toxic... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.132.56.242 (talk) 08:20, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Eukaryotes do not possess any importers. Exporters or effluxers, which are both present in prokaryotes and eukaryotes, function as pumps that extrude toxins and drugs out of the cell
.... - NOT true! ABCB4 transporters of plants (Arabidopsis at least) are dual exporter/importers of auxin[1]--Reo + 03:08, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

Either the title of this article should be changed to simply "ATP-binding cassette transporter" or it should be split into two articles, one of which would be named ATP-binding cassette transporter". In my opinion the former is more appropriate, since the article mostly discusses structure, function, etc. of the actual protein rather than the gene coding for it. If anyone agrees, please do so. Otherwise I will make the change in a week or so unless someone objects. Aurimas 06:03, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
I start discussion regarding my merge proposal. I am puzzled by the parallel existence of those two articles.
I think it is merely relict of the past. According to this talk page - this article had been originally renamed from ATP-binding cassette transporter genes at that time the other article might had been about the proteins. Nevertheless it had been neglectec, until last month it had been rewritten.
By now both articles have some unique parts worth of saving, but there is IMO no need for two separate articles... unless the other one might be rewritten into sub-article for ABC classification or something.
ATP-binding cassette transporter is much better, however it is almost entirely focused on human ABCs and have less on classification of ABCs..
What would You do? --Reo + 02:50, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
Hi there,
I was trying to input the section "Plant ABCB transporters" and in the process some weired error showed up between my paragraph, and "Sav1866" title. When I go to edit, it looks fine, however,, on the page it looks as if it's all one big WRONG paragraph. Can you please restore the page to start "Sav1866" title followed by the paragraph that should start about bacteria. Thank you. Sorry for the inconvenience. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Duar9035 (talk • contribs) 02:38, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
The request to rename this article to ABC transporter has been carried out.
If the page title has consensus, be sure to close this discussion using ((subst:RM top|'''page moved'''.)) and ((subst:RM bottom)) and remove the ((Requested move/dated|…)) tag, or replace it with the ((subst:Requested move/end|…)) tag. |
ATP-binding cassette transporter → ABC transporter – Far more usual term now, evidenced by nGrams and Google hits 191 million to 5 million for page name and used throughout article. Iztwoz (talk) 09:14, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
