Website link inactive[edit]

I don't think her britney.com website is used anymore as it doesn't seem to have been updated since 2016; I think only her britneyspears.com website is currently active. 70.50.103.213 (talk) 16:22, 21 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

that is because the company that owned that domnain, Britney Brands Inc (which was owned wholly by jamie spears) was absorbed by Baby One More Mark in 2021 after her conservatorship was declared null and void, the new holding companies Baby One More Mark LLC (established in 2018 due to the trump administration rolling back woman's rights) and Britney Online (which owns the rights to her social media accounts and was established as a safeguard, so that if BOMM got bought out, the new owners would not be able to use her social media accounts for unauthorised purposes, which could cause her brand to appear untrustworthy to investors) that owns the rights to her work and does not own the britney.com domain (which is abandoned and due to be deleted by 2029), it chose to keep the britneyspears.com domain only as it is easier than having to maintain 2 separate domains for the same entity 80.47.79.193 (talk) 18:14, 23 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

"...the best-selling teenage artist of all time." But "time" isn't over![edit]

With no disrespect to Britney Spears intended, "time" hasn't ended, and until it does it would be more appropriate, and more in compliance with Wikipedia's editorial tone, to say that she is "...the best-selling teenage artist to date."

Rolling Stone magazine has perpetrated numerous "Greatest [fill in the blank] of All Time" lists in recent years -- presumeably for the purpose of generating publicity. These lists certainly do not cover "all time." Who knows what the future holds? Consider, for example, that if Rolling Stone had made a list of the "Greatest Guitarists of All Time" in 1980 it would almost certainly have not included Stevie Ray Vaughan, that if Rolling Stone had made a list of the "Greatest Guitarists of All Time" in 1970 it would not have included Eddie Van Halen, that a list of the "Greatest Guitarists of All Time" made in 1960 would not include Jimi Hendrix or Eric Clapton, that a list of the "Greatest Guitarists of All Time" made in 1950 would not include Chuck Berry, and so on back in time.

An inherent problem with all "Greatest Guitarists of All Time" lists is that to compile a true list of "Greatest Guitarists of All Time" list it would necessary to hear every guitarist who ever played the instrument -- from the inventor of the instrument hundreds of years aga and forward to the last person to play the instrument before time/the universe ends -- and also be familiar with every style and technique ever used to play the instrument, and then be able to objectively judge the every guitarist's skill within their chosen genre of guitar technique.

Consider B.B. King, Andrés Segovia, Django Reinhardt, Jimi Hendrix, and Led Kaapana, to name five guitarists recognized as masters of their individual genres. Judged by their command of the genre they play, rather than by their record sales or concert gross receipts, how can it be said that one is "greater" than the others?

Rolling Stone "Greatest [fill in the blank] of All Time" lists are more accurately described as pretentious compilation lists of the favorite [fill in the blank] of the people who have been invited to contribute to the list -- and, by default, compiled only from the cohort of [fill in the blank] that they are familiar with.

Who's to say that there isn't someone out there they don't know about who plays some genre of guitar music with greater skill than any of the guitarists they know of and like?

Getting back to Britney, record sales are not a matter of personal opinion, but until "time" ends it is more appropriate, and more in compliance with Wikipedia's editorial tone, to say that she is "...the best-selling teenage artist to date. 2603:800C:3A40:6400:D173:C631:ECB8:95 (talk) 20:56, 16 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I will never return to the music industry[edit]

So says Spears. This worth adding? Kailash29792 (talk) 03:57, 4 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

 Done. Popcornfud (talk) 12:19, 4 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
So that means that Britney has retired from the music business, it should now change to a retired American singer. 82.19.40.217 (talk) 12:24, 4 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Clearly she hasn't retired from the music industry if she is writing songs for other artists and duetting with Elton John! https://www.theguardian.com/music/2024/jan/04/britney-spears-denies-reports-of-a-new-album-i-will-never-return-to-the-music-industry
A lot will depend on her thinking at the precise time she posted on Instagram.
Elton John has retired almost every year in the last half decade. The words are meaningless and often designed to stoke up interest in some future potential ticket sales war and boost live performance fees, where the real money is earned. Taylor Swift is proof if proof is needed. Spears is merely resting and not retired. Jaymailsays (talk) 15:37, 4 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
"Retired" would add little value to the article, even if she never works again. These things rarely have much concrete meaning. Instead just report what she/reliable sources say.
If Spears says she will never return to the music industry, then report that Spears said she will never return to the music industry. Keep it simple. Popcornfud (talk) 16:30, 4 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Right! She is still active as a songwriter, and she can sing whenever she wants on her own terms. Don't say "former singer".[1] Don't limit her career activity to 2023[2][3] or 2024.[4] Don't predict which piece of music will be her last.[5] Keep it simple, and stay just a bit skeptical about anybody famous saying that they are retiring. Binksternet (talk) 19:00, 4 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
She's released two singles and a book since the first time she said she was done with the industry. I don't know why people are making such a huge deal about it this time around. Pokémon Spears (talk) 02:04, 5 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
For example, Nicki Minaj claimed she was retiring and has released 14 songs and album since that time, including 2 number one singles. With Sagittariuses you never know what the truth is. We are not truly clairvoyant. Trillfendi (talk) 23:26, 4 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

In the lead shouldn't singer be changed to former singer then? 104.255.169.110 (talk) 04:45, 16 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

No. Binksternet (talk) 05:18, 16 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

LCD Soundystem collab[edit]

I added this at some point, but it was removed:

In 2003, Spears worked with the electronic musician James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem, but the collaboration was unsuccessful. A track from their collaboration was leaked online in 2006.[1]

What is the consensus here, is this too small fry to include? Popcornfud (talk) 17:21, 4 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

No response here, so I'm restoring it for now. Popcornfud (talk) 19:50, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi Popcornfud, I see no real reason to include that information. It was an unsuccessful collaboration; they worked on some songs and none were included on her albums. It does not really seem significant or notable in the scope of her life and career. If every single collaborator she has ever worked with was to be mentioned in this article, it would probably double in length. Melonkelon (talk) 20:48, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I don't feel strongly about it, so if the consensus is not to include it, I can live with that. Popcornfud (talk) 21:30, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
