Moved to Mechanical Turk. After much-extended time for discussion, there is a consensus for the alternative proposed move. BD2412T 02:23, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Searching Google Scholar[1] and Google Books[2] most results are about Ottoman Turks, Ottoman Empire, and/or Turkish people, especially in the context of stereotypical, essentializing views that all Turks are alike. Quotation marks used show that "The Turk" is indeed a combined phrase. Some examples:
"Although he shares with the reader some old-fashioned prejudices about “the Turk,”...[3]
Oppose. This article gets well over 600 views per day[13] and there is no other article on WP using the title. It's unlikely significant number of readers would search for "The Turk" (using "the") expecting an article about Turkish people. Even "Turk" would be somewhat unlikely. As to Amazon Mechanical Turk, that article would not be titled "The Turk" and all three citations simply refer to the same paper that uses the catchy title "Inside the Turk: Understanding Mechanical Turk as a Participant Pool" but the paper does not use the phrase anywhere outside that title. Even if this article needed moving, it would be to Mechanical Turk per WP:NATURAL, but there does[doesn't] seem to be any problem here. Station1 (talk) 03:05, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose moving to "The Turk (chess)". Wouldn't oppose moving to "Mechanical Turk" however. HumanBodyPiloter5 (talk) 10:02, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Comment. Ah, you just can't trust old Johnny Turk, can you? "Turk (automaton)" might be another possibility. Martinevans123 (talk) 10:22, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Support Mechanical Turk as WP:NATURAL. per 2003 book title The Mechanical Turk - a fake chess-playing machine 1770 until its destruction by fire in 1854. Not fictional character Virgil Sollozzo then,... In ictu oculi (talk) 13:33, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Support alternate move As many others have stated, Mechanical Turk sounds more natural than Turk (chess). Eridian314 (talk) 19:34, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Relisting comment: Seems to be heading towards Mechanical Turk, but since the article is watched by many, it would be better if the consensus is clearer. Also, discussion of wp:primary topic about this topic against Amazon Mechanical Turk is lacking. (Non-administrator comment) ~ Aseleste (t, e | c, l) 11:18, 17 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Support Mechanical Turk, more precise and natural title.-- P-K3 (talk) 13:14, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

There's a French/Hungarian movie from 1972 about the (historical) chess turk, called "Le joueur d'échecs" (if forms part of the series Les évasions célèbres). Should this be added to the "Legacy and popular culture" section? Thewizzy (talk) 17:18, 12 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Can you find a secondary source discussing this movie as it relates to the legacy of the mechanical turk? Umimmak (talk) 18:21, 12 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Why this neglect? Why didn't they keep the machine? Then what is the story of the fires spreading in Europe? It is really something that provokes anger and irony. This is an invaluable thing and they pass it on to each other!!
we must rebuild the machine and don't pollutant it by electronics. 37.239.162.34 (talk) 03:28, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
