It is with a heavy heart that I must annouce that Dravecky has passed away. He passed on April 23, 2016 while he was attending WhoFest in Dallas. He was 47.
Ed typically worked in the radio station areas, plus Texas and Huntsville history here on Wikipedia. He was a prolific DYK'er as well. Dravecky attended Georgia Tech and was a former disc jockey, hence his love for radio. He co-founded FenCon and was well known in the science fiction and fantasy convention world.
His friends and family have set up a GiveForward account to help with funeral expenses.
He leaves behind his longtime girlfriend Robyn, his family, his friends in the CON community and his friends here on Wikipedia. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 00:14, 26 April 2016 (UTC)
Pedro and I nominated him for adminship in late November 2008. He was supported 66-0-1 in his RfA.

Given his long tenure and the fact that Dravecky was still active up to the day he died (final edit), I'm thinking a short mention in the Wikipedia Signpost is in order. I've started a discussion on the Signpost newsroom-suggestion page. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 21:02, 26 April 2016 (UTC)
One of Ed-the-science-fiction-fan's recent edits was his gnomish formatting fix on April 18th to the The Last Voyage of the Starship Enterprise, a Good Article about a 1976 Saturday Night Live sketch satirizing the cancellation of Star Trek in 1969.
That made me smile. Thanks Ed. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 22:44, 27 April 2016 (UTC)
Getting articles in wikipedia up to and keeping them at a reasonable level of quality can be, as a lot of us, a bit of a pain. But, if anyone could think of any such articles Dravecky might have considered ones he wanted improved, to the degree that my time at present would allow, I guess I would be willing to help to the degree I can. Alternatively, if there are public domain works which might be proofreadable over at wikisource which might be reasonably subjects of memorial efforts for him, and which don't involve as much updating and caretaking, I could try to offer some help there as well. From Wikipedia Talk:WikiProject Radio Stations (diff), which was one of Dravecky's major areas of work:
“ | It seems like a lifetime ago, but I remember the name "Dravecky" well. The number of radio station articles the two of us moved around to firmly implement the established naming conventions which are still in use today is likely obscene. His was always a username that, when it appears in your watchlist, there is no need to even check if the change was correct/warranted/appropriate/etc. - it had to be, because Dravecky made the edit. RIP. JPG-GR (talk) 03:07, 30 April 2016 (UTC) | ” |
That last sentence before "RIP" pretty much says it all. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 16:47, 30 April 2016 (UTC)

Posted at the request of the love of his life:
There will be a memorial event on Sunday, July 17th, in Plano, Texas. It is an "open event" and all who knew Ed, either in person or otherwise, are welcome.
Details including a point-of-contact for those visiting from out of town are here. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 02:37, 1 June 2016 (UTC)
Oh, no. I've only just heard about this. Dravecky was one of the good guys on Wikipedia - I had many discussions with him over the years, both about Wikipedia (mainly in the stub-sorting project) and our shared interest in science fiction. He will be missed. Warmest thoughts to his family and loved ones. RIP, Ed. Grutness...wha? 15:34, 26 June 2016 (UTC)
On August 1, 2016, Neutralhomer added a memorial to Wikipedia:WikiProject Radio Stations. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 03:11, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
