Northern Football Federation.[edit]

Hi Mike, you may have seen that I moved the article that was up for deletion to a different title looking more at the team and the nomination has been withdrawn so it will be kept. Do let me know if I have made any errors, I am not an expert on New Zealand women's football!

Thanks a lot for getting involved and starting articles on this area of football, which is very under represented on enWiki. I hope you will continue to add to it. Do feel free to ask me any questions or to pop by WT:FOOTY if you want to ask other editors anything.

Thanks again. Fenix down (talk) 19:27, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Fenix down: Hey, Brilliant, thanks. Im quite new to Wiki so thanks for your help. Are we able to change the name of the page to "Northern Football Federation - Women's League"? Just I have a few other squads to add over the coming weeks so would like to be able to differentiate them by name. Also, do you know whats wrong with the Northern Football Federation page? How do i get the deletion notice removed? Mike Hadnett (talk) 20:30, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That's no problem, glad I could help out. Regarding the Federation, I don't think that there is anything wrong with having an article. Unfortunately the article is at AfD, when this happens there is usually at least a weeks discussion to reach a keep / delete consensus and then an admin will come in and close the debate and, if consensus is to delete then the article is deleted if not then it is left. Currently no one other than the nominator seems to have an issue with the notability of the Federation and they support their arguments with reference to relevant guidelines so I wouldn't be too concerned, but it's best to let things run their course. The only thing you can really do is add more sourced content to the article as you have already indicated a keep vote in the AfD.
Regarding moving the article again, this shouldn't be a problem but as there currently aren't any other articles of a similar name it's not necessary just yet but if you create them a disambiguation page can be created for the various teams and the article titles clarified. Out of interest, what teams where you going to create? Any team can have an article as long as they have sufficient significant reliable coverage in secondary sources to satisfy WP:GNG (match reporting and transfer talk is usually considered routine and not relevant in this instance). However, the general consensus is that only senior teams that have competed in a national cup / league competition are inherently notable per WP:FOOTYN. Any teams that don't meet these criteria though can always be briefly mentioned in the Federation article instead. Hope this is helpful. Fenix down (talk) 21:10, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Fenix down: Ok cool, I will wait and see what happens with the federation page then. In the meantime i can continue to build it right?
As to the other teams that we will be naming, we have both a Male and Female Futsal team that competes in the national futsal league which is a precursor to being selected for the national futsal team. I should have the squad lists this week, so will copy the template you have used on the women's league page and just change the content.
Can team photos be added to the team pages? Can our federation logo be added to the federation page?
Of course you can, in fact I would encourage it to enhance indications of notability. for the futsal teams, I would be careful. WP:FOOTYN, although a generally accepted consensus, is not an official guideline and only applies in practice in my experience to 11-a-side teams. I have recollections of futsal teams being deemed inherently less notable and need to satisfy wider GNG requirements. You may find it useful to build drafts of these articles at somewhere like User:Mike Hadnett/Northern Football Federation futsal team. Regarding team photos, these would have to be free files (as opposed to copyrighted). If you have these (for example you have taken one yourself), you can upload that here where there is a useful guide as to what can and can't be uploaded and the step by step guide is relativley simple. Team logos on the other hand, unless they consist solely of simple geometric shapes / lines are almost always copyrighted. they cannot be uploaded to Wikimedia commons. Instead they should be uploaded here directly to enWiki. Fenix down (talk) 12:02, 9 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
