The result of the discussion was:keep. This close is no bar to a further nomination, as there is some support for merger to multiple parents, but a fresh discussion would be cleaner. – FayenaticLondon22:08, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Procedural Oppose The subcats have open nominations where I'm not presuming the outcome. Once that sorts itself out, we can discuss the parent category. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:49, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Admin update. As a result of older discussions recently closed, the subcategories have been deleted and the contents have been upmerged to the nominated category. It now contains five articles. Thanks, Good Ol’factory(talk)02:18, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale:rename somehow, "of Georgia" or "of Georgia (country)" is clearly wrong, we have Category:Kings of Georgia for that. The nominated category is much broader, it is an almost-container-category for various ethnic Georgian kingdoms and principalities throughout history. I am not sure whether Category:Ethnic Georgian monarchs is the ideal target, but it is the best that I currently can think of. Category:Kartvelian monarchs might be an alternative. Marcocapelle (talk) 13:15, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose using an "ethnic" qualifier. It would not be accurate to place such a label on people from an era when such terms were not used, especially considering that some scholars believe the Bagrationi dynasty originated from Armenia (to give one example). Based on other categories it should be "Georgian Monarchs" but seeing how that is not acceptable due to the ambiguity of the term "Georgian" I don't see why using "of Georgia (country)" is wrong here. Kaiser matias (talk) 18:46, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose There never have been Kings of Georgia (state). However the content includes a Grand Duke title. Perhaps Category:Rulers in Georgia (country) might be an acceptable solution, but might be objected to as anachronistic; Or Category:Rulers in Georgian kingdoms. I dislike the idea of adding "ethnic". Peterkingiron (talk) 17:57, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose. Ethnic qualifier is wrong by at least 2 accounts: it applies a concept forged in the late 19th to 20th century to people and polities centuries prior to that, and it implies assumptions that cannot be sustained as to the "ethnicity" of the peoples and the leaders of these polities. A title like Monarchs in the history of Georgia could be an option, but I believe that the present title is not that bad. It is understandable without ambiguity (nobody would assume that it refers to the U.S. state), and readers able to notice the difference between the 11th- to 15th-century Kingdom of Georgia and its predecessor and successor states would probably immediately understand the scope of this category. I also notice that this same article uses the sentence Unification of the Georgian State, so we may also use a similar construct, e.g.: Monarchs of the Georgian states, Georgian states monarchs. Place Clichy (talk) 16:53, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose monarch of a territory is fine; monarchs of whatever territories based on ethnicity is irrelevant. Category:Ethnic German monarchs and toss in not only the monarchs of old states of the HRE but add in the current Dutch, British, and some other monarchs as well just because someone can (presumably) trace ethnicity back to somewhere in (present?) Germany... Carlossuarez46 (talk) 18:40, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose — while at first glance this is an outlier (most are FOOian monarchs), there are many others of this form in Category:European monarchs. This is the standard form for Georgia, to distinguish from Georgia (state). We long ago decided not to use (ethnic) Georgian. William Allen Simpson (talk) 13:35, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Suggest -- Merging all to Category:Rulers of Kakheti, which avoids the issue of whether they were individually independent or under Persian suzerainty and may give a properly populated category. Peterkingiron (talk) 18:04, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Merge for Now While they would have more than five mayors, most would be non-notable. No objection to recreating any if they exceed expectations and ever get to 5+ articles. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:51, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The Order of the Durrani Empire is an Afghan campaign medal awarded to British field officers and above during the First Afghan War by Shuja Shah Durrani of Afghanistan in gratitude for his restoration to the thrown. The articles tend to mention the award in passing or not at all so the award doesn't seem defining. In contrast, these officers participation in the overall war is prominently mentioned so they need to stay in that tree. The contents of this category are already listified right here in the main article for any reader interested in the topic. - RevelationDirect (talk) 01:46, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
