Non-free image being used in 24-hour clock#Midnight 00:00 and 24:00. A discussion about the file's size was started at WP:MCQ#File:Railtime.jpg, but I think there are other non-free issues which need to resolved as well.

It's not clear why this particular image is needed per WP:TEXTASIMAGES. The image appears to be being used to support the sentence "Similarly, some railway timetables show 00:00 as departure time and 24:00 as arrival time." , but a non-free image does not seem to be needed for that purpose per WP:NFCC#1 because text is considered acceptable as a free equivalent per WP:FREER. Moreover, there is no specific sourced discussion of this particular file, so the context required by WP:NFCC#8 is not clear. Why does this particular image need to be used? Is this the only example of this type of thing which can be found anywhere in the world? The article says "some railway tables ...." which implies there are others. If an image of one of these others could be added, even as non-free, and serve the same encyclopedic purpose, then the justification for the non-free use of this particular image is not really valid.

The question also is why is any image regardless of copyright status is needed. The non-free use rationale states "cannot make an artefact because information must stem from 'real world'". The rationale also states that the image is from an outdated source. The way the times are presented in tabular form is, I believe, something which can be protected by copyright; however, I'm not sure if the actual expressions of time as numbers itself can be copyrighted. If not, then it seems the relevant content could be expressed as a simple Wikitable and supported by a citation to the source. This is what is typically done for quoted text, which this essentially seems to be.

It's not clear why there could be any objection to using this image. It is just a part of one page out of a 800-page and 25-year old time table. The information does not have potential to compete with the creator's business objectives. This image is needed in the article 24-hour clock to show a real world occurrence of both times 00:00 and 24:00. In the beginning while developing the article 24-hour clock there was substantial opposition to mentioning the time 24:00. People were convinced this particular time designation, as opposed to 00:00, was never used in practice. In order to make crystal clear that the appearance of 24:00 is not just a theoretical possibility, but is used in real life, this image was added (especially since it has both 00:00 and 24:00 on the same page).−Woodstone (talk) 04:03, 24 April 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I don't think any image, particularly a non-free image, is needed for the reader to understand the content about this in the article. It can be done more than adequately using text and a citation to the relevant source. If this particular timetable was the subject of discussion in reliable sources because of its use of both 00:00 and 24:00 indicating train times, then there would be probably be some justification for it's non-free use; that, however, this does not seem to be the case and the file seems to have been simply added to show one possible example of this. You could simply add information that this format is used (was used?) in train schedules in the Netherlands with a supporting citation. Even if the train schedule book itself is a considered to be a primary source, it should be able to be used for this per WP:PSTS. You appear to be trying to use the image as some sort of "visual citation" for verifying the relevant article content, but that in my opinion is not really how images (especially non-free images) are supposed to be used.-- Marchjuly (talk) 04:55, 24 April 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Why are you suddenly interfering in an article that contained this image for many years to the satisfaction of the editors and readers there, to whom it represents a valuable addition. Your copyright arguments are extremely vague and not to the point. This image is a tiny fraction of a work that has no business value anymore for the creator. A non-free image added to an article may go for years until someone questions its non-free justification, so WP:NOBODYCOMPLAINED is not really an good thing to try and argue in an FFD discussion. Moreover, instead of commenting on me, it would be better to try and show how this file's non-free use in the article satisfies all 10 non-free content criteria, in particular WP:NFCC#1 and WP:NFCC#8. -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:00, 24 April 2017 (UTC)Reply[reply]

• Delete, the file is redundant (specifically, fails NFCC#1 and #8), as the text already makes the situation very clear. Since it is a published work, it could, of course, be cited as a reference.
