Doesn't look eligible for copyright in the United States. (((PD-logo))) Steel1943 (talk) 06:36, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Steel1943 - Do you mean it should be uploaded to Commons instead since it wouldn't technically be fair use?--CNMall41 (talk) 06:38, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No, PD-logo since I have no idea if this does or does not meet the threshold of originality in Israel. Steel1943 (talk) 06:40, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I didn't take Israel into consideration. So basically I just need to change the permission to PD-logo correct? That sounds easy enough. --CNMall41 (talk) 06:42, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the reason I brought it here is that I'm not sure, though I believe so, that it is simple enough for ((PD-logo)). That's why I brought it up for discussion. (This isn't any reflection on your upload: I'm just not sure, so I brought it here. If there is no input on this from other editors, then it's probably good for ((PD-logo))). Steel1943 (talk) 06:46, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I completely understand its not a reflection on me. I am just hoping to understand for further use as I have uploaded so many logos (likely 100+) that getting it correct when I upload would save time and not necessitate a discussion. Thanks for the note. --CNMall41 (talk) 06:49, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The best reference that I have, and you probably have seen it yourself, is Commons:Threshold of originality. Unfortunately, I used to survey the upload log on a regular basis years ago, but have since forgotten how to be confident that I'm seeing the right thing when it comes to copyright on images. But, usually if it's just a solid-colored background and shapes/letters, it's not eligible for copyright in the United States. Steel1943 (talk) 06:53, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Do the tails on the "S" make this unique enough to be eligible for copyright? Well, in my opinion, they don't, and since this image is for an entity in the United States, this image should be moved to Commons. Steel1943 (talk) 06:45, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Do we need a discussion for this or can it just be moved? I don't really care but I keep seeing the templates on my talk page. --CNMall41 (talk) 06:47, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@CNMall41: I may need to look at that notification template to ensure it looks neutral; I not tagging it as any concern that is a problem ... I brought this up for discussion since I'm not sure. Steel1943 (talk) 06:49, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No big deal at all. Just wanted to get my head around it. Thanks. --CNMall41 (talk) 06:51, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Clearly not non-free. Also, this file was formerly in Tangled: Before Ever After, but was replaced with File:Tangled Before Ever After (TV Poster).jpg and is currently orphaned, so this would not meet fair use requirements per WP:NFCC#7. Steel1943 (talk) 15:31, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I keep looking at this image, and I think it fails WP:NFCC#8 since it doesn't help identify the subject of the article, but rather a subtopic (that probably needs to be its own article if truly that notable.) Steel1943 (talk) 16:48, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm deeply sorry if the image violates these rules - it's just that the commercial presented some issues, and therefore I thought that especially in that case, an image would help a lot. Also, there are photos for subtopics in general in Wikipedia. Now I don't say that there should be a photo for each section in Wikipedia in general, (that would be pointless) but I thought especially this one needed an image to give readers an idea of the social issues adressed.
Regardless of that, if the photo is deemed not acceptable for WP here, I've got no problem with its removal. NickBlamp (talk) 17:04, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Tagged US federal government, with unverified claim of authorship by the federal government. Uploader further claims "Mugshots are not subject to copyright". The photo is a mugshot of a person who was arrested by the State of Washington, not federal government, so the photo likely has State of Washington authorship.
