Aiming to reach 1000 article improvements and creations for Turkey long term from general independent article contribution, based on the Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. I encourage all editors from Turkey and elsewhere to contribute towards this and demonstrate what progress we're making with development long term. Anybody can contribute any article on Turkey, from biographies to dams and churches!, so please feel free to add to this list independently whenever they feel like it if you've worked on an article related to any of these countries. Article cleanup and basic referencing improvements, expansions, new articles, DYKs, Good Articles, Featured Articles etc, are all welcome. The general focus is on quality, expansions or minimum start class articles are preferred, but meatier stubs provided that they're well-sourced and useful are also welcome.

Note that this 1000 Challenge is not a contest in itself. It's too early to talk about contests, but if support and participation in this took off there's always the possibilility of staging some national contests to fuel production on this and even surpass 1000 articles!. Let's see how this goes first though. Overall the main aim with this is to improve existing articles and make new articles consistently of reasonable quality, so to inject quality in articles across the region. I would be very grateful if people could help spread the word on this, invite potential contributors who often work on articles related to these countries and we can see what can be achieved!

• Improve the quality of existing articles related to Turkey, and to encourage more editors to improve general article quality and sourcing.
• To encourage the creation of missing content and build a highly comprehensive coverage of Turkey on English wikipedia. In doing so, to develop a detailed missing article directory for Turkey by area and topic to promote long term growth and view overall scope.
• To make existing village articles for Turkey consistently of minimum quality like Ağılönü, Amasya with some geographical and population information and create new articles in the same style.
• Create a general district template for every district in Turkey like Template:Amasya District as a long term development tool and encourage more articles on buildings in localities.
• To generate a momentum for Turkey and stage contests/editathons which fuel growth and attract people to develop Turkey. In the long term, try to build bridges with institutions within Turkey and get them to see the potential of wikipedia for national development. Get libraries, universities and cultural institutions involved in hosting editathons and forming partnerships with wikipedia in contests, which promote growth on both English and Turkish wikipedias.

It's too early to plan for this. We need a steady stream of contributors on board first and then the support of some of the relevant chapters and other wikipedias. But it's possible that at some stage the following national and general contests could be held to fuel the drive and bring about immediate improvements to each country:

• National Turkish Contest, a general national contest, with focus on higher quality core articles.
• The Turkish Destubathon, a national contest designed purely to reduce stub count
• The Ottoman Challenge, a history contest focusing on the Ottoman Empire
• Wiki Loves Turkish Women (co-hosted with Women in Red), a contest for Turkish women
• Wiki Loves Turkish Monuments, a contest with an architectural focus

• Hydroelectricity in Turkey needs rating, more info on economics, how fast power can be turned off and on to complement wind and solar, local politics, international water relations of Tigris and Euphrates, whether global warming is causing drought and if so what effect it will have on environment etc.
• Foreign relations of Turkey

Some sections which have main articles should be shortened to be summaries and updated and the details and history moved to the main article e.g. Afghanistan–Turkey relations Turkey–United States relations Greek–Turkish relations Israel–Turkey relations. Central Asia section needs expanding e.g. add Uzbekistan. Possibly add something on Black Sea and Med. Sea and add more about trade to Russia and China sections. Syria section needs updating.

• Turkish people - The article needs to be written objectively. It is currently a real mess and constantly has edit-wars. I am therefore going to try re-write the article in my sandbox: User:O.celebi/sandbox first.
