The 2024 United States Virgin Islands Republican presidential caucuses will be held on February 8, 2024,[1] as part of the Republican Party primaries for the 2024 presidential election. Four delegates to the 2024 Republican National Convention will be allocated on a selection basis.[2] The caucus will use ranked choice voting.[3]
The number of delegates for the U.S. Virgin Islands was reduced from nine to four due to an RNC rule violation. Under RNC Rule No. 16(c)(2), any caucus held prior to March 15 must allocate its delegates proportional to the number of votes for each candidate.[4] U.S. Virgin Islands scheduled its caucus before March 15 and planned to use a ranked-choice voting scheme instead of a proportional system. The chairman and executive director of the Republican Party in the Virgin Islands were ousted due to the mishap.[5]
Under RNC Rule No. 17(b), because of this violation, the Republican National Convention will set the rules of the election so that delegates will be allocated proportional among the candidates who received more than 10% of the votes cast in the primary.[4][5]
