Liverpool Transfer Source?

[edit]

Is there any? Should be deleted. Senseless. This isn't a tabloid. Audioweevil 03:16, 28 July 2006 (UTC)Audioweevil[reply]

Why does my stuff always get deleted? I have only stated the truth that David Villa is wanted by Liverpool and that he was at the Liverpool vs Bolton game on the 1st of January!
Benitez already said he isn't interested in buying Villa and Valencia have already said they will NOT sell Villa this transfer period. By the way, Villa was a guest of his good friend Pepe Reina, not the club itself.

Well if you can give us a reference or a source then it can go in the article. However, due to the controversial nature of the comment, it would not be allowed in the article without a good source behind it. If you can send a link to a reputable website that shows good evidence, it might be allowed into the article. - T. Moitie [talk] 18:04, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Transfer Rumours

[edit]

Why delete my part about the many clubs linked with Villa? I had links to back it all up, and someone coming to the page to find out about Villa should know of all the clubs chasing him Red&White4life (talk) 07:09, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Because Wikipedia is not about rumours, conjecture, speculation nor non notable events. Providing a source does not automatically make it acceptable, it must also conform to criteria for inclusion, particularly in the case of Biographies of Living Persons and the source must be reliable - as per WP:RS. Most speculation about links to clubs are made up by media sources, and exaggerated beyond belief. Any professional footballer is being 'watched' by many clubs at any time, that is what scouts do, and it is not notable. Media journalists ask leading questions and extrapolate a story from that. Ask any manager if they would like to have Ronaldinho in their side, most will say "of course, he is a great player". That is then immediately reported next day as "<Club> to swoop for Ronaldinho". The BBC, Telegraph, Mirror etc. may be generally reliable with real news, but are also not immune to artistic license when it comes to current event hype for their publications. They, however, operate under different guidelines. Possible transfers may be human interest content, but they are not encyclopaedic, and Wikipedia is an Encyclopedia. If someone wishes to know what Villa has achieved, this is the right place to come. If they are interested in the rumour, speculation and gossip, or what he may do in the future, they should seek a tabloid newspaper or a blog. --ClubOranjeTalk 09:32, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed with the editor who corrected the "wishful thinking", but actually it wasn't entirely made up: the BBC's deadline day live text page shows (entry timed at 17.10) that "Manchester City's prospective new owner Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim has revealed he has made bids for Valencia's David Villa and Stuttgart striker Mario Gomez". 86.136.250.66 (talk) 16:21, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just a note, brace used to have a wiki page but it does not seem to exist anymore. A brace = 2 goals. Paper Back Writer 23 (talk) 16:58, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Can you say that in the article then? At the first instance where brace is mentioned, put "(2 goals)" immediately afterwards just to clarify what it actually means. ♥NiciVampireHeart13:45, 22 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Uh, please explain your reasoning? Samwb123Please read 00:20, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, because David Villa currently plays for Valencia C.F. which can be verified from Valencia's homepage and the player has not been transferred according to any football news to Stoke City and the transfer window closed. Stoke City's homepage doesn't list the player either. He plays for Valencia. That's my reasoning.Tunkio (talk) 00:34, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK.  Done. Thanks! Samwb123Please read 03:42, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

According to the page, Villa is a Barelona player, however on Barcelona's website from "18.05.2010 13:33", it says that "There’s no date been fixed yet, but we’ll sign him when it’s best for our club”. Until the transfer is completed, Villa is still a Valencia player. Can this be changed back, but monitored, as the transfer is likely to be completed relatively soon? Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.22.194.128 (talk) 15:38, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Technically, Villa is still a Valencia player, because although both teams have reached an agreement, they have NOT signed the contract yet. This will probably happen tomorrow, Friday, if the player passes the medical exam in Barcelona. But if this does not happen, Villa would still be a Valencia player. So AT THIS MOMENT, he is still a Valencia player.

It would be correct to write something like: "currently plays at Valencia, but this team has reached an agreement with Barcelona to trade him". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.42.123.112 (talk) 20:20, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Villa's goal against portugal was offside, why was it deleted from the text? "Villa proved vital once again, as Xavi backheeled an Andrés Iniesta pass to the on-rushing OFFSIDE Villa who hit the back of the net" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.181.98.74 (talk) 02:02, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Definitionally, he wasn't offside, or the assistant referee would've flagged it. He might've been apparently offside, but the source discussing the goal never mentioned that. A comment about a player being apparently offside won't get added to the article based on one editor's opinion of how it appeared. —C.Fred (talk) 02:09, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Was based on a virtual reconstruction by Tv Globo ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQQVuQD3120&feature=player_embedded ) Thanks for the explanation anyway. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.181.98.74 (talk) 02:30, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Top scorer

[edit]

I don't know the first thing about soccer (football). Is David Villa the top scorer or second place? I'm seeing conflicting edits on here, and only way is correct. Someone figure it out, then watch for changes to the contrary.--Mblumber (talk) 03:50, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I will have a look in a bit but I think he is now joint top scorer, this is the reason we don't add stuff that is constantly changing. Off2riorob (talk) 06:52, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Some official sources say Villa has 44 goals, the journalists in Spain insist he has 43. This is because of a goal he scored against Poland which was given to Villa, despite many journalists considering the goal being an own goal by Polish centre back Dariusz Dudka. Officially, Villa has 44 goals. There was also another goal which created a polemic, it was a goal against Latvia in 2006/2007 (can't remember exactly) some sources considered the goal to be scored by Villa, and was originally considered part of his goal record, but later removed, as it was actually an own goal. If both the Poland and Latvia goals were included, Villa would be top scorer on his own. DVilla21 (talk) 15:02, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

He will soon be the undisputed top scorer as he is going to score more, thanks for the explanation. Off2riorob (talk) 15:06, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

According to RFEF and UEFA, yesterday’s goal against Scotland was Villa’s 44th, not 45th, so he’s still tied with Raúl. –Kooma (talk) 11:55, 13 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Request: World cup goal ratio - not above Ronaldo

[edit]

From what I understand of what is written on this article, Villa has made 8 goals in 11 world cup games. That`s an impressive 0,727 ratio. Ronaldo has made 15 goals in 19 world cup games, though. That`s a 0,789 ratio. And, let`s not forget, he played one final right after having a seizure! As the article is blocked, I ask that someone change the last phrase of the 3rd paragraph to exclude this wrong information. By the way, the link that is supposed to back the info is broken. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.122.131.75 (talk) 23:21, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You've got to be kidding, right ? You cannot include the goals scored in the youth leagues in his professional goals list. Those must be excluded, those 25 goals cannot be counted. There can be off course a reference in the page but no way in the career statistics. Otherwise, all the goals from reserve teams and all the friendlies must be counted too...

Update the "Carrer Totals" section.

[edit]

The "Club statics table" says that David Villa has scored 271 goals in 544 matchew so far (sec. 5.1). But the "Carrer totals table" (sec. 5.3) is not updated and it says he has scored 242 goals in 465 matches with club. Therefore, in the same table, the total of his goals including the ones with Spain is wrong too. Hope you can fix it soon.

While he has signed with the club, I don't think that it should be listed as his current club since it will not commence play until April, 2015. He will likely be loaned back to another club until December 2014. Walter Görlitz (talk) 15:07, 2 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I was thinking of this, and it seems that any other assumption fails WP:CRYSTAL. He has been signed as a professional by a club, and left all others. Until such a time comes when we can say "David Villa plays at X FC on loan from New York", there's not really an argument against putting it as his current team. David Villa (b. 1981) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a striker and also serves as captain for American club New York City FC. Before transferring to the United States, Villa played for a number of Spanish teams, including FC Barcelona, with whom he won his first La Liga and UEFA Champions League titles, Valencia CF, and Atlético de Madrid, shown here after scoring a goal. As part of the Spanish national football team, Villa scored three goals at the 2006 World Cup, was the top scorer at Euro 2008, and earned the Silver Boot at the 2010 World Cup.Photograph: Carlos Delgado

Goal average in the national team

[edit]

In the article's lede, it says that "The goals-to-games ratio he has achieved for the national team has not been matched by any player since Alfredo Di Stéfano".

Actually, this is technically incorrect unless you introduce a minimum criteria for how many caps one should have played before applying a ratio-based statistical comparison with other players. For instance, a player who scores two goals in his first three caps has a higher ratio than Villa. Mario Gaspar of Villareal comes to mind here. OscarL 16:09, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Position

[edit]

Villa has spent a good part of his career playing as a left winger - all of his contract for Barcelona and many games for Spain, including the 2010 World Cup. For that reason, I think "winger" should be added to his position in the article. --5.12.23.40 (talk) 02:54, 19 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

David Villa has been the subject of sexual harassment accusations dating back to his time at NYCFC. An investigation by NYCFC found that inappropriate behaviour took place, and though it did not name David Villa, it was in direct response to these allegations. An article by The Athletic goes into further detail of the behaviour David Villa is accused of, including evidence and wider corroboration from contemporary sources. I think the personal life section of David Villa should be updated to reflect the allegations made against him, in line with numerous reputable media sources now reporting it:

https://www.espn.co.uk/football/new-york-city-fc/story/4227808/nycfc-reports-unacceptable-behavior-after-investigation-into-sexual-harassment-allegations

https://theathletic.com/2213536/2020/11/23/david-villa-nycfc-alleged-harassment/

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/nov/23/david-villa-sexual-harassment-allegations-new-york-city-fc-mls

This could be written as follows:

In the summer of 2020, David Villa was accused of sexual harassment that took place during his time at NYCFC. A subsequent NYCFC investigation found that "inappropriate and unacceptable" behavior took place, though Villa was not mentioned by name. Villa maintains the allegations are "untrue".
