"In volleyball a red card is used in a similar manner to football (soccer) and field hockey, resulting in a player being sent off. Yellow cards are also used."
I've been looking for more information on yellow card accumulation rules for association football. Does the rule vary? Is it incorporated during the normal season or only in tournaments? Any information would be appreciated in the article. Thanks - cgilbert(talk|contribs) 19:57, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
Addition to Switzerland: Suspensions allways after 4 Yellow Cards.
Another important fact to point out maybe, what happenes with Yellow (and other cards) if a match will be abondoned (with the additional question referring, if such an abondoned match is being replayed) ? About Austria, I've the information that all cards are counting (exception: Yellow cards, if there is a system with replaying in part), and in consequence also a suspension counts (If a player was suspended for one match, his suspension is deleted, if it was for maybe three matches, one of it is deleted). Replayed matches: Only those, when there is a replay in part, are being relevant. In several Austrian local associationes replays in part are applied. Most important laws say: Yellow cards from the abondoned match are transferred, Accumulation takes effect with finish of the match. Players who were dismissed aren't allowed to take part.
Accumulation maybe transferred if a player changes the club. But laws in Germany and Austria say: At the end of a season there is no transfer of accumulation into the next season (and, if a player was shown the "Indirect red card" in the final match, there is no suspension for the first match of new season). Only red cards are transferred (and also suspensions). --213.225.38.186 (talk) 17:10, 28 November 2016 (UTC).
The categories of misconduct states in point 4 that "A deliberate handling offense to deny an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by any player other than a goalkeeper in his own penalty area" will result in a red card. I am not familiar with the accurate wording of this rule, but this is at least not how the rule is being used. A goalkeeper will also be given a red card if "deliberate handling offense to deny an obvious goal-scoring opportunity". This should be reflected in the article. Article currently states The player who has been sent off can be replaced by a substitute player it is not in the laws of the game 2014 that a player sent off cannot be replaced This is clearly wrong - of course a player sent off can not be replaced by a substitute. The only exception to this is if the player is sent off before the game has started, in which case he can be replaced by a named substitute [1]. I believe this needs to be edited on the article. --Kingmoose8 (talk) 21:47, 28 December 2013 (UTC)

In the F.A. yellow and red cards have been introducted later (1976?) and there were an interruption in the 1980ies (it was said, all players are English speaking, therefore there is no need for cards, decisions of the Referees can be made clearly). Are there exact data recorded about all that? --213.225.5.125 (talk) 13:00, 27 November 2016 (UTC).

Okay, this is coming from an American who basically knows SFA about soccer, so take that in mind when answering. In the article it states: "A player who has been cautioned may continue playing in the game; however, a player who receives a second caution in a match is sent off (shown the yellow card again, and then a red card)". Is this a sequence of three (Yellow card at the first occurrence, yellow card at the second occurrence, and red card at the third) or two (Yellow card at the first occurrence, both yellow and red cards at the second)? The description seems to be saying the second, but that doesn't make sense. Why bother showing the second yellow card if it and the red card occur for the same infraction? --Khajidha (talk) 16:30, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
The article is kinda misleading. The blue card is not always shown if a player gets disqualified, but it is shown everytime if a player does something that would make him get a red card directly, no matter what penalties he got before. Somebody should clarify that, but since I am neither english nor really into the formulation of the regulations, I will not be able to do so. --Iksbat (talk) 03:18, 13 November 2017 (UTC)

For the 2018 ConIFA World Football Cup, ConIFA introduced a new green card, which is issued to players as an intermediate punishment between the yellow and red cards for dissent and diving infractions; any player who is issued a green card is required to be substituted immediately and can take no further part in the game.[1]J4lambert (talk) 15:55, 3 June 2018 (UTC)
