Stop adding link to a disambiguation page[edit]

To the anonymous editor(s) who insist on re-adding the wikilink on the word "process" in the opening sentence: links within articles should not point to a disambiguation page, they should instead point directly to the most appropriate article. In this case, none of the articles listed on the disambiguation page for "process" are relevant to the context of this article. Should you care to read up, see WP:DISAMBIG or WP:OVERLINK. This particular case clearly falls under "avoid linking plain English words." If you feel there is a particular Wikipedia article which would be helpful, feel free to add the correct link. But please don't continue to link to a disambiguation page simply to provide a definition of the word. LarryJeff (talk) 16:19, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
What're you talking about? Process is a normal article that explains the word, not a disambiguation page. But I agree that a plain word that everyone understands shouldn't be linked. Pagen HD (talk) 09:54, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No mention of film and television recording[edit]

This article should be organised into subsections, each providing a link to its respective Main Article. And film/television should be added. Pagen HD (talk) 10:00, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Merge[edit]

This was not taking shape as a stand-alone article so I WP:BOLDly salvaged what I could and redirected to Record. ~Kvng (talk) 04:47, 15 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This has been reverted by R'n'B with edit comment, "you can't merge a sourced article into a disambiguation page." As part of my salvage, I merged the "sources" in the Further reading section into Sound recording and reproduction. All of the material in this article is covered better in the articles linked to at Record. As it stands this article is trying to cover multiple topics so it probably should be converted to a disambig but that's not necessary since one (Record) already exists. I'll restore my changed in a few days if there are no further objections. ~Kvng (talk) 14:21, 15 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
If you do go ahead with this, please be aware of WP:FIXDABLINKS. There are a number of other articles that contain links to Recording that will need to be fixed before the page is redirected. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 10:08, 16 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That's a good point. I'll make sure to restore these changes when I also have time to sort out all the incoming links. It looks like most of these should lead readers to Sound recording and reproduction. Is there any other reason I should not go ahead with this? ~Kvng (talk) 20:58, 16 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

'Not taking shape'

Agreed it's not taking shape as an article. It remains a collection of mostly common-sense and obvious observations, with (as a result) very little encyclopedic value. In short, it sucks.

First of all, 'recording' can be a noun or a verb.
Secondly, the definition of 'recording' in the lede (as a process which collects a dynamic, time-changing series of images) is a misfit for the 'history' section ... which only refers to static recordings ... paintings, books ... which predate the technical definition in the lede ... and stops there. (Edison anyone?)
Thirdly (and I could go on), there's no recognition of the cultural or technological development of 'process' recordings which collect images of a series of events, audio or visual. Enough examples.

So, yeah, I agree with the sentiment that the article is an embarrassment as it stands, and wouldn't be missed if it was deleted. On the other hand, a more general, polished, well-thought-out article on the topic should be present. Twang (talk) 00:13, 27 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have restored my merge, this article is now a redirect to Record. ~Kvng (talk) 14:42, 31 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
