Creating an article[edit]

Creating an article can be daunting. It may surprise you to know that having the information about the topic is not sufficient. In fact Wikipedia has a policy that any facts must be supported by reliable sources. I should note at this point that some secondary or tertiary sources are not considered reliable, such as onefivenine.com, villageinfo.in, sindhindia.com, villagemaps.in etc. See the discussion at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard/Archive 236#onefivenine.com_-_broad_consensus_sought. See also: Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources; Wikipedia:Potentially unreliable sources; Wikipedia:Reliable_sources#Questionable and self-published sources. Finding reliable sources for articles on Indian villages is a challenge, especially as the web site at censusindia.gov.in appears to be down, and thus is not available. Reports from other Indian governmental agencies can be helpful, but mostly their data is tabular and doesn't provide real information. Finding a bunch of news stories about accidents and people running for office seldom will support an article about a village. Articles about recovery from natural disasters can be useful, but only if they address the specific village. International aid organizations often address the needs of specific villages, and when they do are useful; but they are few and far between and often do not show up in Google or Bing searches. If a village has a specific industry, sometimes the trade journals for that industry will discuss the village in question. But without reliable sources no article will meet Wikipedia standards. So, regarding Hayyal (B), you would be better off looking for reliable sources for the information, rather than just putting unsourced information on my talk page. As you may see, I spent yesterday disentangling a Wikipedia article Karajagi that had been edited by some editors as the village in Sangli district, Maharashtra, and by others as being in Kalaburagi district, Karnataka. This was complicated by the fact that there are also two other villages in Karnataka that are named Karajagi.

If I find adequate reliable sources regarding Hayyal (B), I will create the article. You can help me by finding some of them, even if they are in Kannada. Please note that some sources, such as unpublished texts and an editor's own personal experience, are prohibited. Generally blogs are not considered reliable. I hope this helps you in thinking about a future Hayyal (B) article. --Bejnar (talk) 23:23, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
