Walter Ezequiel Matthysse Bianchettin was born on July 8, 1998 in Trelew, Chubut, Argentina. [3] He is the son of Walter Darío Matthysse and Gladys Yanina Bianchettin, who were also boxers. He is the nephew of former world champions Edith Soledad Matthysse and Lucas Martin Matthysse. He has 2 sisters: Nerina Ayelén Matthysse and Zaira Milena Matthysse. Ezequiel started boxing from a very young age since his Matthysse family were all boxers, from his grandfather, his grandmother, his uncles, his relatives, and his parents.
In 2012 he made his debut as a boxer amateur when he was 14 years old winning by knockout in the third round. Before his debut, he held 2 exhibitions, the first at 7 years old and the second at 11, trained by his father at the time. He made a total of 63 amateur fights of which he won 59, 30 of them by knockout, lost 3 and tied 1. [7] [8]
In 2015 at just 16 years old, he was contacted by the team of Marcos Maidana and traveled to United States, where he was trained by the former boxer and [ [trainer]] Roberto García (brother of Mikey Garcia) and trained with several professional boxers such as: Shane Mosley, Brandon Rios, [[Jesús Cuellar] ], Oleksandr Gvozdyk, Taras Shelestyuk and Brian Castaño. In 2016 Ezequiel returned to Argentina to join the team of his uncle Lucas Matthysse, and in 2017 he helped Lucas prepare for his fight against American Emmanuel Taylor with headquarters in Las Vegas, Ezequiel being the partner of sparring of his uncle. [12]
In 2017 he returned to Argentina and traveled to Buenos Aires to represent the Argentine National Team of Boxing in a cap between Argentina against Brazil and fought with boxer Brazilian Uendel Brito. [13]

In 2012 a video of Ezequiel went viral on internet with millions of views. In the video you can see Ezequiel sleeping until his father throws water on his head, which provokes Ezequiel's anger and he reacts by saying "Dad, can't you see I have new underpants?" (“Papá, no ves que tengo calzoncillos nuevos?” - in spanish) The video was first posted on YouTube and in a short period of time it managed to get millions of views on platform.
In 2020 Ezequiel published a video entitled "The revenge of the new underpants", in the video Ezequiel is seen explaining who he is and waking up his father with water on his head, which would be revenge against his father for the viral video . [22] In that same year Ezequiel published another video related to his viral video, which he titled "The recreation of the new underpants." In the video, Ezequiel is seen recreating the same scene from his viral video, but this time with his World Boxing Council amateur world belt hanging on his shoulder and saying his famous phrase “Daddy I have new underpants”. Ezequiel Matthysse admitted in several interviews that he was victim of bullying, but he was able to overcome that stage of his life as an amateur world champion of the WBC until he became professional boxer. [24] [25]
