Hello. You supported the 45th Infantry Division's A-class review last fall, but the ACR was closed with no consensus due to a sourcing issue. I have since addressed that issue and have opened a new one. Please do come back to give your input. Thank you! —Ed!(talk) 15:50, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

I was considering running for Coordinator for the Military History WikiProject, but I am not sure. I was very busy in the "real world" during the last elections and did not think I was prepared to devote the time to the WikiProject that it truly deserves. I'm back now and I have started getting involved again. I've always respected your opinion, especially after we served together as coordinators in Tranche VII. I would really appreciate your advice on this. Thanks and Have a Great day! Lord OliverThe Olive Branch 23:00, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
That's great that you're coming back. As for the coordinator elections, you should definitely run. At this rate we're barely going to have 15 candidates, so you wouldn't be taking up someone else's spot if you needed to take time off. Also, if you don't run you can't change your mind, but if you run you can always resign if you must, so there's nothing to lose by putting your hat into the ring. – JoeN 01:29, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi! Firstly Wikipedia:WikiProject Cincinnati is marked as inactive. Since you still edit, if you are still involved, would you mind changing it to semi-active?
Secondly, my photo request for the Comair headquarters building at Cincinnati Airport is still outstanding. If you have time, would you mind taking it? The headquarters is located on Comair boulevard. All I need is a single shot of the building(s) with the Comair logo (like this one that I took in Bouguenais, France a few days ago File:RegionalHQNantes.JPG) If you wouldn't mind doing this for me, Thank you! WhisperToMe (talk) 13:02, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
I'm not really sure if I can change it to semi-active: the template says that it belongs with projects that have had a few discussions on their talk page in the last few months, but the last non-bot message I see is from more than a few months ago.
As for Comair, I will next time I get over there. It's pretty far from my house and I rarely go there, but next time I'm at the airport I'll try to get a shot. I'll let you know when I upload one. – JoeN 13:54, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 05:46, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

I am more than willing to tolerate a less active coordinator for the upcoming tranche; remember that since this is the first time we have done a year long tranche these will be issues that we will need to work out as we encounter them. Its that pioneering spirit that helps define humanity, and while I can not say i blame you for hesitating I will point out that in this moment of history your standing and possible reelection to the coordinator tranche will be remembered for a long time to come whenever we look back and look at who had a role in the very first year long tranche. The choice as always lies with you, and I can certainly understand if you decide not to run again, but I do encourage you to consider all options before deciding one way or the other.
Yours very sincerly and respectfully,
TomStar81 (Talk) 20:16, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
Well after all that ... I voted after all. It was a hard call, I'm normally not comfortable voting in an election I'm running in, but then I saw the vote comments and it looked like "party time", which I'd like to see more of around Wikipedia. The natural place to draw the line for me was: if I'm bumping into someone all the time (or used to, in the case of Dana), I voted ... but that means that there are many great candidates, including you, I didn't vote for, and I'm sorry about that. Maybe I can help you with articles or something. (Watching) - Dank (push to talk) 12:26, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
Of course, I understand. I won't blame anyone who doesn't want to vote for me, given my activity restrictions. Thank you for considering my candidacy. – JoeN 23:18, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, let me know if I can help with any articles. - Dank (push to talk) 13:54, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Any idea who this well-decorated person is? Photo is from Harvard Art Museum, who says he's General Giroflore... Scewing (talk) 01:21, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
Per Woody, the medals he's wearing include commandeur of the Légion d'honneur (the front medal around his neck), the Crimea Medal (British medal with clasps second from the right of image), the British Order of the Bath (large rectangular medal second from left on ribbon bar). It all suggests he was prominent in the Second French EmpireScewing (talk) 19:29, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
I'm afraid I can't help you specifically - I'm not an expert on French insignia or uniforms, but do the markings on his sleeve, or anywhere else, for that matter, indicate rank? That could narrow it down. Are there any lists, either of recipients of any of his awards or Generals of the time period that could be compared to each other? This person would have to be one of the people who was on both lists. – JoeN 21:39, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

military history/communications/crypto/equipment/KO-6
There is a great obstacle in trying to write authoritatively about this subject, because everything was classified Top Secret in its day, and what has been declassified is often severely redacted, it is hard to get objective and reliable references. Anyway, I have an article written based entirely on my memory of KO-6 operations in 1960 on this page: [[1]] This is the first article I have written, my prior experience has been minor editing and some photo restoration. So, I need help, what next? As a matter of fact, I keep getting informed that my page does not exist and I can create it. I just need a little guidance about what to do with this, as it seems to belong in this page: [[2]] I would also like your opinion about the lack of authentication or footnotes. I feel like the last living authority on this subject. One other veteran of the same era has mentioned the equipment in a memoir, but KO-6 was not his primary concern. We have different memories about the same machine. Anewcharliega (talk) 21:53, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I'm not really sure what to say about your article - it certainly has the potential to be a decent article about a subject that we don't cover as much as we should. However, there will be a lot of people who will jump all over it for lack of references. The problem here is that one of the main principles of Wikipedia is that all of its content must be Verifiable by outside sources. This also runs into problems with policies banning original research. I encourage you to ask for someone else's opinion or post your question on Wikiproject Military History's talk page, but it'd be very difficult for such an article as you're proposing to exist without violating one of our policies, especially the one on verifiability. – JoeN 23:56, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
My quest for verification has got me three declassified documents from NSA which indicate only that something called KO-6 existed. I have also found one veteran of US Army service from the era who did some work on the machine, although he never operated it in a crypto communication system. He describes details that convince me that he had his hands on a KO-6, but that again does not verify anything. I am going to insert my text into the Military Communications article, which looks pretty feeble as it is anyway, and let it stand until somebody (the Wikipolice?) deletes it for lack of references. Maybe, just maybe, somebody who knows about this stuff will read the article and provide some references. The fact is that anyone who has valid references to this has got those references by subterfuge, simply because everything was top secret and nothing was declassified until years after it was all destroyed. The three documents I have are not contemporary with the life of the KO-6, but are after the fact histories or memoirs written for NSA. Anewcharliega (talk) 02:38, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
Going ahead and adding it with what references you have seems like the best idea to me. That way, if those are OK, it's there, and if they aren't, at least when it's up other people can look at it and offer their opinion on whether or not it should stay. – JoeN 16:58, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Hello there! There is an article called "Argentina-Brazil War", it's about an international conflict that occurred between 1825 and 1828 between the Empire of Brazil and the United Provinces of South America over the possession of the Brazilian province of Cisplatina (which had a mixed Portuguese and Spanish population). The problem is that is was never called "Argentina-Brazil War". An editor probably created this name for it.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. "Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians.
G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:
tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.
As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.
The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.
The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.
