Mazca has been dragged back into the office full time after more than a year of luxurious working from home, and is finding little time to edit Wikipedia at the moment. Feel free to leave a message if you need me, I'll likely still see it within a day or so, but I'm unlikely to do much proactively for now.
This is Mazca's talk page.
  • If you want to leave me a message, please do so in a new section below. I will reply here, to keep the conversation together, unless you tell me otherwise. If I suspect you might not be watching my talkpage, I'll tag you.
  • If I left you a message on your talk page, please feel free to reply there.
  • If I didn't leave you a message, and you don't want to leave me a message, that is your own problem. Enjoy the picture of a dead horse to the left.

Deletion review for Nova Firoze[edit]

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Nova Firoze. Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Alamgir64 (talk) 15:46, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for closing Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2021 January 24#Μέδουσα[edit]

The only reason I opened it was to give the complaining editor what he wanted - a forum for discussion - that would re-affirm the status quo and prevent this kind of revert war for the next year or two. That, or on the off-chance that the editor was right, to discuss the issue seriously. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 15:31, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Davidwr:Absolutely, I think you opening it was a very sensible thing to do. It just rapidly became pointless once the guy got indefinitely blocked shortly afterwards, as at that point we don't want to encourage them to participate without an unblock request first - particularly as there was already a quickly developing consensus that it was good to keep it as it stands. Definitely good to open that discussion as an initial step, it just seems like in this case the other guy might just be too unhinged. ~ mazca talk 18:07, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, if you hadn't closed it and there hadn't been anyone saying anything other than "Keep" I would've speedy-closed it myself. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 18:39, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Another sock[edit]

I've noticed User:HendoUtd2021 appears to be editing in the same English football articles using the same canned edit description as Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/DJdjPollard15. Would you be able to take a look at it please? The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 20:03, 22 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@The C of E: Yup, that's him again. Thanks for the vigilance, I'll sort it. ~ mazca talk 08:50, 23 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Muck Rack[edit]

Hello, Mazca... I am interested in creating an article about Muck Rack, but I see that it has been deleted not too long ago, by you. I am not affiliated in any way with the various sockpuppet accounts that were stirred up related to that article, and I am not being paid by Muck Rack or anyone at all to create such an article. It's truly just from a voluntary standpoint, and to bring Muck Rack to at least parity with other Wikipedia articles about public relations databases (e.g., Vocus (software), Cision, and Agility PR Solutions). The parent company of Muck Rack (Sawhorse Media) also organizes the Shorty Awards, which does have a Wikipedia article. I am wondering if you can copy to me the wikitext of the deleted article, so that I could review what sources were included and compare them to my own sources (which include 21 Feb 2012 National Post (Toronto), a Sept 2018 Associated Press article by Joyce M. Rosenberg, mentions in PR Week, PR News, Inc., NiemanLab (of Harvard University), and others. - Hard thoughtful work (talk) 17:51, 30 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Hard thoughtful work - I've restored the deleted text to your userspace at User:Hard thoughtful work/Muck Rack. It was an inoffensive but extremely short article with minimal content and a couple of borderline sources. If you think you can pull something together that satisfies the notability guidelines, you're very welcome to - I'd just caution you that articles on stuff associated with the PR industry tend to receive extra scrutiny for hopefully very obvious reasons. The standard bar is "significant coverage in multiple reliable sources" - make sure you're not reliant on passing mentions, and/or stuff originating primarily from unedited interviews and press releases, or from websites that aren't editorially independent. Best wishes, let me know if you've got any issues. ~ mazca talk 20:13, 30 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Following the closure of the Iranian politics case, standard discretionary sanctions are authorized for all edits about, and all pages related to, post-1978 Iranian politics, broadly construed.
  • The Arbitration Committee encourages uninvolved administrators to use the discretionary sanctions procedure in topic areas where it is authorised to facilitate consensus in RfCs. This includes, but is not limited to, enforcing sectioned comments, word/diff limits and moratoriums on a particular topic from being brought in an RfC for up to a year.

Administrators will no longer be autopatrolled[edit]

A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. How we will see unregistered users[edit]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

New administrator activity requirement[edit]

The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.

Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:

  1. Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
  2. Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period

Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.
