Your message

If you read the page history, you'll see that I didn't place a warning on your talk page for vandalism. What I did was revert the edits that the IP in question made to you page - they were the one that posted the warning to your talk page. I have blocked them for 31 hours for their disruption. GbT/c 07:39, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

The warning that they posted was cut and pasted from their own talk page - it was my warning to them...! GbT/c 07:41, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
To prevent further disruption, I have semi-protected your talk page (you can read about the protection policy here. Unfortunately, as you're a new user, this may leave you unable to edit it yourself - try, and let me know by leaving me a message on my talk page. GbT/c 07:50, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
Incidentally, I have already semi-protected your user page. GbT/c 07:51, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
Test
That's alright then...! GbT/c 07:53, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Tips

Well, make sure you're familiar with all the user-warning templates that you can use for the various situations you're likely to come across. You can find them at WP:UWT - they cover pretty much every eventuality, and it helps to know what's there.

Another suggestion would be to not use tools like Twinkle and instead do it manually - at least in the early days. Some users so clearly rely on Huggle, and Twinkle, that they don't actually know the processes which those tools are automating...GbT/c 08:04, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

copy edit request

hello, I was wondering if you would be interested in giving a copy edit to the Janet Jackson article which is in preparation to be nominated for Wikipedia:Featured article candidates. The current peer review is here: Wikipedia:Peer review/Janet Jackson/archive1. The peer review is basically done, but I would like the article to have one thorough copy-edit before I nominate it for FAC. The Bookkeeper (of the Occult) 07:08, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. No problem. The Bookkeeper (of the Occult) 07:17, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
Thankyou for copy-editing the article and for the compliment. A comic done by a friend of mine featuring me. I'm the lunatic that leaps off the balcony. :) Based on a semi-true story. hehe. The Bookkeeper (of the Occult) 05:53, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

thankspam

Thanks to everyone who participated in my RfA, regardless of their !vote. I have withdrawn the nomination as a failure at 19 supports, 45 opposes, and 9 neutral statements.

As has been written and sung, you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need — and what I need is to go back to working on our shared project. Not everyone has to be an admin; there is a role for each of us. After reflection, I feel I don't have the temperament to secure community consensus as an admin at any point, and I will not be applying again in the future — and hey, that's all right, 'cause I stay true to the philosophy that adminship is no big deal: I tried, I failed, and now I'll return to doing what I've always done. I have an extremely strong belief in the consensus process, and the consensus was clear. I will be devoting my energies to volunteering at MedCab and working up a complete series of articles on the short stories of Ernest Hemingway, among lord knows what else. Thanks again to everyone who spared the time to weigh in on this one. It was made in better faith than it probably seemed.
Mr. IP Defender of Open Editing 14:04, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Welcome to the project, and thank you for !voting on my RfA, Silverwolf. I didn't mean to make a POINT violation, but it seems that enough people saw it that way that it makes no practical difference. Anyway, hope to work with you positively in the future. Onward and upward, Mr. IP Defender of Open Editing 14:04, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Userpage spifification

No problem! I do sig's as well. Out of interest, how did you find me?

Just tell me what sorta thing you'd like, i'll set it up in one of my sandboxes and then tweak it as needed per your request :). Ironholds 20:58, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Fair enough; shouldn't be a problem. The sig will take me 5 minutes tops; burnout is not an issue, so just tell me what you'd like to to look like. Don't make it too flashy or editors eyes will bleed (see CycloNimrod's). To clarify with the userpage;
  1. By organise userboxes do you mean stick them in a vertical column like how I have them?
  2. What would you like on the links (contributions, sandbox, awards, so on)
  3. If you plan to have quite a few userboxen, would you like me to create a page you can store them on?
  4. Would you like any background colouration/tabling like on my page or would you like to KISS (keep it simple, stupid)?
  5. Would you like an archiving system set up on the talk page?

In terms of keeping it easy to maintain; i'll keep the code as simple as possible and will also add litle tags in; they won't display when you view the page but when you edit the page it will tell you which bit does what and how to change it. I can also make your page more difficult to vandalise by moving it to a subpage and referencing it from there (so the code won't be kept at User:Silverwolf85 but will be displayed there; it confuses vandals NO end. I got 13 cases of vandalism in the months before changing it and 3 in the same time after).

At the moment i'm also looking to adopt (my last two adoptee's buggered off and left the project, not my fault I swear!); I appreciate you've been here for a while but with on-and-off editing (to quote you) if you need any help or whatnot then I'll be up for it at any hour of any day (Read: I have no life). Ironholds 02:34, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

All doable :). Would you like it as it is for the sig in styling (so Silverwolf85 (talk) ) with the different colours divided as such or all running together like mine or anything else you can think of?
A little terry pratchett quote for you about a teacher (simply called "teacher") who joins a horde of barbarians (I can't find where i've left the book, so i'll paraphrase)...

Ironholds 06:46, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Run together? Sorry, it's 8AM and I haven't had my morning coffee. Ironholds 06:55, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
Not at all, just happy to help :)

Janet jackson

Don't worry, I added that tag as a courtesy simply because I'm going to be messing with the lead for a bit. Nothing against you, surely. Wasn't even aware anyone was currently editing the page. WesleyDodds (talk) 09:17, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

Thankyou again, btw. The Bookkeeper (of the Occult) 09:16, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

SF copyedit

Hi, i was wondering if you could give Homosexuality in speculative fiction a copy edit: For grammar, (Brittish) spelling, checking it makes sense to general readers (jargon), whether there is too much repetition, is too listy. If you have any knowledge about the films/TV section in particular, that needs some expansion too. I'm currently working on the lead, and will format the references properly soon, unless you like doing that sort of thing :-).

Article is being worked up to GA class (not FA), but i can't find anyone who wants to help (all the wikiprojects it is part of have ignored it).

You were one of very few (2?) editor on the peer reviewers list to indicate any interest in genre fictions :-). Thanks! Yobmod (talk) 14:58, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi, sorry for slow reply. The copyedit is definitely still needed. But no rush - i generally work slowly, and i'm waiting for a reference book before i consider GA. So within a few weeks would be fine :-).Yobmod (talk) 12:52, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Book finally arrived, and i'm done adding references (for now :-)) - so let the copyedit commence! I will only be formating citations and playing with the lead image for the rest of the week.Yobmod (talk) 12:48, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Adoption offer

Hello, I see you were looking for adoption. I would be more than happy to adopt you. I will also be mentoring you with my adoption center. It should help you gain more experience learning about Wikipedia. Well, if you would like to learn more about me, reading through my user page would be best. Oh, and I only adopt active Wikipedians, and I noticed you had a half-a-years worth of inactivity looking through your contributions. Will this continue to happen? If it will, then I can't adopt you. But if you can edit... hmm... a few times a week, that would be okay. Will be looking forward towards adoption! Thanks, RyRy (talk) 08:56, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

A week or two is just fine. Six months... not so much. I'll get you settled in. So, thanks for accepting. I'm sure you'll do great. You can look around User:RyRy/Adoption a bit. I'll notify you when I'm done. Thanks, RyRy (talk) 06:48, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
Your welcome. Oh, do you have any questions about adoption itself? I'll be glad to answer them. Cheers, RyRy Public (talk) 07:20, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
Ah. Generally, I'll be monitoring your edits from time to time and making some reviews about you from looking at your contributions. What ever you want to do around the encyclopedia, is all up to you. I'll just be there to mentor you and teach you whatever I can about Wikipedia and its areas. Anywho, I'm nearly done setting up your adoption. When this is blue, it should be ready. When the page is created, please watch list that page (assuming you know how to do that...). Thanks, RyRy Public (talk) 07:32, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
Done. Now let the mentoring begin. I have high hopes for you. Good luck! Do check into your classroom from time to time. Thanks, RyRy Public (talk) 07:50, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
Very well then. Take your time, and don't rush with your adoption. I'm sure you'll do just fine. Best, RyRy Public (talk) 07:53, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Classroom

My reply here. Have a good day! -- RyRy Public (talk) 19:56, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Heh, sorry for the wait. I was busy creating Harlem Valley Railroad. I'll answer your new messages at the classroom page right now. Cheers, RyRy Public (talk) 07:37, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
See the classroom for my reply. Best, RyRy Public (talk) 08:18, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Rollback

Rollback is a faster method of reverting vandalistic edits on Wikipedia. After deliberation, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

If you do not want rollback, then contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some information on how to use rollback, you can view this page. I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, just leave me a message on my talk page if you have any questions. You may also want to ask your adopter for some helpful pointers regarding rollback. Happy editing! Malinaccier (talk) 03:25, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the tip on evaluating Catholic colleges for articles. I will see if I can't get a copy of that book. Student7 (talk) 11:05, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Baptism

And I should thank you. I had not noticed before that the page said emergency baptism could only be given by baptized persons. The formatting also needed fixing, and now your message has got me making further retouches. Lima (talk) 05:34, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Copy edit request for Mangalorean Catholics

Hi Pax85!!!. I saw your name listed at WP:PRV as a general copyeditor. Since you say you are interested in Catholic stuff, I think you are the best person whom I can contact. I was wondering if you can copyedit Mangalorean Catholics, which is about a small Catholic group. You can take your own time and copyedit the article whenever you are free. Also, if you have any suggestions, please do put it up. Thanks in anticipation, Kensplanet (talk) 13:43, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Peer review sub page submission

I was happy to see someone so qualified to peer review a sub page submission. I am very new to Wikipedia and have spent many long hours but I think I have a sub page in shape. It is presently at user David Komatz. It is a submission for a sub page under Premonstratensians, USA, St. Norbert Abbey. Two things, could you look over the article and let me know if I have not done something right and how do I get it from my user page to the sub page Saint Norbert Abbey which is there but has nothing on it? It has been a struggle. I probably should have sought your help in the beginning but I think I'm close now. Incidentally, most of the pictures are mine and those that aren't belong to the Order for whom I am the official rep on this project. Thanks for your consideration. David Komatz, O. Chiprovtsi FAC copyedit

Hello, I'm contacting you because you've volunteered on the Wikipedia:Peer review/volunteers as a copyeditor. The Chiprovtsi article is currently a featured article candidate, but it requires an urgent copyedit by a native speaker in order to qualify for an FA. Your help will be greatly appreciated! Copyedit request

Greetings. If you have time, could you take a look at PJ Haarsma. I'm working on getting it up to at least B-class standards in WikiProject Biography and it could use a good copy editor. I haven't written in years, since college, and having another writer take a look at the prose and do some edits or give me some pointers would be great. Thank you!--Kethra (talk) 14:42, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

So I took a quick look at the volunteers list, and you were the ONLY person to list Star Wars as one of your interests.
