- The result of the discussion was: rename especially for consistency's sake, considering the consensus for the parent category. bibliomaniac15 04:08, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- Nominator's rationale: In line with similar categories. Mechanicians might be a Danish term, but as an English term it is very obscure. Rathfelder (talk) 21:39, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep: To me it seems a useful category for early mechanicians (people working with mechanical inventions) that were not "engineers" per se. My destinction would be that a mechanician is (or rather was) a craftsman (like a clockmaker but working with other devices) whereas an engineer has been trained at an institution of higher education. But it may be because the word correspinds to a well-estabilshed term in Danish (mekaniker). And the category should of cause not be kept if the main category is deleted.Ramblersen2 (talk) 22:06, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- These biographies dont seem any different from those which in other countries are classified as mechanical engineers. I dont think there was much higher education for engineers anywhere before about 1900. Rathfelder (talk) 22:03, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- Support nom -- See comments under Mecahnicians (below). A headnote might usefully include the Danish term. Peterkingiron (talk) 17:46, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: delete for now. bibliomaniac15 04:14, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- Nominator's rationale: The category contains one article, Harriadnie Beau, and two redirects to crime articles. I can't find any evidence that Beau attended the college, so inclusion fails WP:CATV. None of the articles mention New College, Stamford (now renamed as Stamford College), so I suggest that the category should be deleted. TSventon (talk) 20:37, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment. At the very least it needs to be renamed to Category:Alumni of Stamford College, Lincolnshire, and there are one or two articles (e.g., Doxis Bekris) that are for alumni... but unless there are five or more genuine articles, there's no real point keeping it. Grutness...wha? 05:08, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- More detail. I have made this nomination following moving the college article to Stamford College, Lincolnshire and creating the Stamford College disambiguation page and would be happy to rename it if kept. The members and potential member I have found for the category are:
- I have found four potential members of the category, but not verified any of them as alumni of the college. The two articles are of borderline notability (Beau's article was nominated for deleted with no consensus and Bekris' article is tagged for notability) so I don't think the college article needs a notable alumni section. The category has some potential for growth as the college has been around from 1967 to the present. TSventon (talk) 11:00, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- In that case, I'm swayed to delete with no prejudice against later recreation at the new name iff articles on several verified alumni are found/created. Grutness...wha? 15:21, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

- The result of the discussion was: delete. bibliomaniac15 04:07, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- Nominator's rationale: delete per WP:NONDEF, people in this category are characterized neither as "Islamic" nor as "figure", they are people occurring in the Hebrew Bible, the New Testament and the Quran and already categorized as such. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:36, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete per nom. Smeat75 (talk) 19:51, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete We have no other "figures" category. Dimadick (talk) 05:14, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- Possible Rename to Category:People venerated in Islam, but most of the people will be in other categories, covering Hebrew Bible; New Testament; and Quran, so that this ought to be a container or largely so. In saying this I bear in mind that Islam has a different view of some of the people from Jews and Christians, so that it is appropriate to have a distinct parent. Peterkingiron (talk) 17:55, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete delete per nom. In Shi'a Islam and Bektashi Islam, etc., there are many people venerated (including recent ones such as Khomeini). Carlossuarez46 (talk) 05:18, 11 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

- Nominator's rationale: delete, no need to have a redirect for such an implausible search term. "Pre-Islamic figures" would apply to everyone who lived before Muhammad. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:13, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

- The result of the discussion was: speedy delete WP:G7, category's creator has moved the contents to Category:Pre-Islamic figures and then to Category:Islamic figures, e.g. [1]. – Fayenatic London 19:50, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- Nominator's rationale: Confusing name. Saints canonised before Islam? Is there an article discussing these? I'd expect to see them discussed in Wali, although that does say "As scholars have noted, saints venerated in traditional Turkish Sunni Islam may be classified into three principal categories:... The "greats figures of Islam", both pre-Islamic and those who came after Muhammad, as well as certain sainted rulers." So, perhaps there's case for Pre-Islamic Saints but that's also confusing as it covers Christian saints that aren't consider saints in Islam. Doug Weller talk 13:38, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- @Doug Weller: There are many people who were considered Muslims, following the teachings of Islamic prophets before Muhammad. IslamMyLoveMyLife (talk) 13:42, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- Deleteper nom. Something needs to be done about the above editor, who created the cat. He is obsessively going through many articles on figures from the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament categorizing them as "Muslim saints", "Pre-Islamic figures' etc. over and over.Smeat75 (talk) 16:28, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete Ill-defined category, and currently empty. Dimadick (talk) 16:37, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- As I've said elsewhere, he seems confused about the general issue. He's said that the Bible calls Adam and Eve Christians. Doug Weller talk 17:31, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete per WP:NONDEF. For example Adam in Islam is a prophet, not a saint, and the article is already in a prophets category. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:38, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
