Merge Category:Emigrants from Liechtenstein to Category:Liechtenstein emigrants, obviously. Creating extra categories for people moving from A to B is a sadly retrograde step. Footballers will be in dozens more categories. Oculi (talk) 19:29, 15 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Comment I will state that these are not even close to duplicative in scope. Many vets have never seen combat. And if Ukraine is any example, the border police have entered into combat without being military. And in Iraq, non-military combatants were widely seen in combat. The CIA entered combat operations in Vietnam, also clearly not a recognized military force -- 64.229.90.172 (talk) 05:31, 9 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Merge per nom for now, with a suggestion we look at the target category for deletion in the future. I am not sure that grouping people whose only common denominator is that they are a veteran suggests any sort of increased willingness or ability (at least that isn't WP:OR) to collaborate on a specific group of articles by those individuals, meaning there is a strong argument such a category violates WP:USERCAT. If the goal is to group individuals interested in improving military related content, a more inclusive category that would also include non-veterans seems like a better approach. Nominator's rationale: Per main article. For precision. To distinguish from other Kingdoms of Croatia. Laurel Lodged (talk) 14:12, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No objection, but this implies that everything related to the 12th to 15th century (when Croatia was in personal union with Hungary) should be moved to Category:Medieval Croatia. Marcocapelle (talk) 14:23, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmmm It might be better to create a new category for that period called Category:Kingdom of Croatia (1102–1526). Rather annoyingly, that is a direct from an official article called Croatia in personal union with Hungary which is a bit clunky and confusing. I might nominate that as a reverse merge later. Anyway, with these two categories could then be children of Category:Medieval Croatia. Or Category:Medieval Croatia could just be dumped. Laurel Lodged (talk) 16:50, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Support per nom It makes the chronology clearer. No objection to create another category for the subsequent Kingdom of Croatia. Dimadick (talk) 17:01, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
But there was no "subsequent Kingdom of Croatia", it was still the same kingdom Marcelus (talk) 17:08, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose, the category covers history of Croatian monarchy until 1526, there is no need to to change its name to something with clearly narrower scope Marcelus (talk) 17:10, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The Kings, Nobility and Wars subcategories should be moved to Category:Medieval Croatia in any case, because they contain a large amount of 12th to 15th century content. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:56, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: I'm aware that in North America, the Mammut genus is commonly referred to as the common name "mastodon" (or "American mastodon" or "Pacific mastodon" for the two late Pleistocene species). However, "mastodon" is really almost only referred to the one Plio-Pleistocene genus of North America, not the entire mammutid family in paleontological research whose history spans as far back as the early Miocene in Africa to dispersals in Eurasia via a Gomphotherium land bridge. For instance, rarely would you see academic researchers refer to Zygolophodon as a "mastodon" if at all rather than "mammutid." Mammutidae fits better as a category name not only because of this but also because for fossil taxon categories, it's almost always standard to refer to them by taxonomic names like family names. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PrimalMustelid (talk • contribs) 18:00, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
SplitSupport a Category:Mammutidae; the current category includes articles about multiple genera in the family Mammutidae. The category could also be split with e.g. Boaz mastodon and Anderson Mills mastodon and Burning Tree Mastodon remaining in category Mastodons, and other genera in Mammutidae. As long as "mastodon" is equated with Mammut and not Mammutidae, there is a need for a Mammutidae category.Plantdrew (talk) 04:03, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale:WP:C2D main article Bogatyr. When I found this category, most people in it were indeed bogatyrs: fictional or legendary knights-errant in medieval East Slavic legends / (Kievan) Rus' literature. However, a few were 17th-century Russian noblemen (dvoryanin) and/or voivodes (military chieftains) such as Prokopy Petrovich Lyapunov and Dmitry Pozharsky, who were not bogatyrs. They were arguably "Russian knights", if we choose to apply the English word "knight" to 17th-century Russia. But as we've already got Category:Russian nobility, an elite social class created in the Tsardom of Russia in the 16th century, I moved them there. The remainder of this category consists of fictional or legendary medieval bogatyr, either fictional stock characters such as Anika the Warrior, or possibly historical people about whom most material is probably legendary, and who never had been granted formally knighthood, such as Oslyabya and Alexander Peresvet, who were "monks". "knights" doesn't properly describe them (certainly not the Category:Knights by country, which I have already removed), and "Russian" is anachronistic; Kievan Rus' or just Rus' would be appropriate, but in this case it is unnecessary. The main article Bogatyr provides us the proper word; we don't have to invent anything else. Category:Ukrainian knights is entirely inappropriate as anarchronistic WP:OR, apart from being a WP:SMALLCAT, and should be deleted; the only member Dobrynya is already in Category:Russian knights and can stay there if it is moved to Category:Bogatyrs. Nominator's rationale: all are WP:SMALLCAT, with no likelihood of expansion, not least because the 2021 and 2022 season categories only contained the eponymously named article. The articles for the seasons are in the parent category already, but the other articles (about grand finals or team articles) are not, and would in my opinion be valid in that category. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:39, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

They should, I had neglected to notice that they were in multiple categories. Having checked, the other categories look to be correct (as the seasons only have Scotland/Wales categories for the years that Scottish and Welsh teams competed). Joseph2302 (talk) 08:51, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale:WP:ARBITRARYCATWP:NONDEFINING. This is just a combination of rulers of Moldavia who were also simultaneously at some point rulers of Wallachia. "Moldavia and Wallachia" doesn't refer to a single unified state in this case, except for the brief period of the United Principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia in 1859–1881. There were only two people ever reigning those United Principalities: Alexandru Ioan Cuza (who preferred calling himself Domnitor for the bulk of his reign from 1862 to 1866), and Carol I of Romania (who changed Domnitor to King of Romania in 1881). "Ruler/Prince of Moldavia and Wallachia" wouldn't even have applied to Alexandru from 1859 to 1862; he used two separate titles: "Prince of Moldavia", and "Prince of Wallachia", not a combo. All other people are just ruling it in a non-permanent, non-formalised personal union that was historically prone to change. It's also completely unnecessary; we're not creating categories like Category:Monarchs of Castile and Aragon to stick Category:Ferdinand II of Aragon in there; he is fine in the parallel category trees of Category:Castilian monarchs and Category:Aragonese monarchs. Same goes for people who just so happened to be simultaneously Prince of Moldavia and Prince of Wallachia. Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 00:53, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
