Socialist Workers Thailand (Thai : สังคมนิยมแรงงาน),[1] formerly known as the Workers' Democratic Group (Thai : กลุ่มประชาธิปไตยแรงงาน), is a Marxist political organization in Thailand.
Founded in 1998, it is an organization that adheres to the concept of communism and uses the critical line of political economy according to the style of Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, Vladimir Lenin, Leon Trotsky, Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, Kim Il-sung, Ho Chi Minh, Fidel Castro, Che Guevara, Pol Pot, Xi Jinping and other leftist leaders with the same idea. The current chairman is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Giles Ungpakorn, a member of the Labour Party of the United Kingdom. And other notable members are Jaruwat Keyunvan (Representative of the chairman), Nakita Kertnark (Vice-chairman), Fem Rest (real name and surname unknown), Phunyathorn Taweesak, and other like-minded people, most of the members of the organization are not Thai. However, there are foreigners including Khmers, Rohingya, Burmese, Chinese, and other nationalities.[citation needed]
SWT has a core ideology is Patriarchal collectivism, which is a concept that combines communist ideology with cultural characteristics and ancient Thai government in the era of King Ramkhamhaeng the Great. This concept is built on drawing on the straightforward and uncomplicated nature of linguistic communication. This is a distinctive feature of King Ramkhamhaeng's time, especially the use of the words "I" (Ku : กู) and "You" (Meang : มึง) in conjunction with the strict hierarchy within the Communist Party system.[citation needed]
During the time of King Ramkhamhaeng. The use of the words "I" (Ku : กู) and "you" (Meang : มึง) is common in social contexts, reflecting informal and straightforward communication that strictly regards hierarchy. at the same time King Ramkhamhaeng was also a leader who advocated economic freedom and free trade, which contradicted the basic principles of communism that emphasized economic control by the state and the equitable distribution of resources.[citation needed]
In the concept of Patriarchal collectivism, This combination was formed by applying ancient Thai cultural characteristics to the structure and concepts of the Communist Party, such as the use of the words "I" (กู) and "you" (มึง) to emphasize friendliness among party members and show closeness to the people. at the same time The hierarchy within the Communist Party remained strictly maintained, reflecting the patriarchal rule that prioritized leadership and hierarchy within the organization. In addition, They are aware of King Ramkhamhaeng the Great's benevolence in granting Ramkhamhaeng University to its members to continue their higher education.[citation needed]
Marx's socialist concept sees that social inequality is not a natural thing that has existed originally, but is the result of class society and capitalist society. In a capitalist society, there are two classes. between bourgeois (The Capitalist class) and proletarians (The Working Class). The capitalist system is a system that creates inequality because it allows capitalists to make profits through the exploitation of excess value from labor (for example, a salesman can earn 1000 baht a day for a business, but receives a wage of 300 baht per day, which is the minimum wage, and the remaining 700 baht will be the employer's profit). The bourgeoisie uses its economic power to build political power and dominate the state structure in order to benefit the bourgeoisie and oppress the working class.
SWT and socialists in general do not see the socialist system as contrary to human nature in any way, because capitalism was born only 200–500 years ago. Socialists are of the view that human character is determined by material conditions or social environment. And human beings always have habits that are contrary to capitalism. When in Primitive era, There was no capitalist system, no class social system and, no government.[citation needed]
SWT believes in the theory of permanent revolution and believes that socialism is the solution to the current capitalist crisis. Currently, SWT is still active by producing media. A large number of books and academic works have been published along with seminars and student groups in universities and labor unions continuously. At present, SWT has signed MOUs with various political movements with left-wing ideologies and Islam, such as REDEM, PSC Thailand, PULO, BRN, and Sayyid Sulaiman Hussaini Coalition to form a "Mass Party". In support of a permanent revolution according to the doctrine of Leon Trotsky.[2]
