Yep, not great. There are a huge number of quotes sourced directly to Finkelstein himself, making them primary with no real sense of the appropriate weight for the extracts established in secondary sources. A large volume of material is self-published on his personal website. To produce a B-class article, let alone a GA status article, this page would basically need to be half-scrapped and rewritten from scratch. Like many GAs listed in 2007, it is not worthy of the status. Definitely one for delisting. Iskandar323 (talk) 09:49, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed minor edit: Finkelstein's dissertation and From Time Immemorial
The current version of this article states that "Finkelstein's doctoral thesis examined the claims made in Joan Peters's From Time Immemorial".
This is not correct. A digitized version of Finkelstein's dissertation (Norman G. Finkelstein, "From the Jewish Question to the Jewish State: An Essay on the Theory of Zionism" (PhD dissertation: Princeton, 1988)) is now available from ProQuest: Peters's book does not even appear in its bibliography (which includes every title cited in his notes.)
Finkelstein's critique of FTI was a side project. It was published first as an article in the journal In These Times, and then as a chapter in the book Blaming the Victims.
This passage in the article should be edited to read: "While still a graduate student at Princeton, Finkelstein published a critique of the claims made in Joan Peters's From Time Immemorial".
Done Thanks for your input. Earlier in the article, it clearly states that the dissertation was on the theory of Zionism. I was wary of citing the subject's own works to back up your edit request, so I found another source from NYU. Cheers. StonyBrookbabble16:40, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Under "Controversy" subsection:
Norman Finkelstein's Child Protective Services Incident
In 2017, Norman Finkelstein became embroiled in a highly unusual and contentious dispute with his neighbors in Kings County, New York. The conflict, which began with complaints over trivial neighborhood issues, escalated when Finkelstein contacted Child Protective Services (CPS), alleging concerns about the welfare of a neighbor's child. Many regarded the call as an overreaction, and it quickly became clear that the dispute was more personal than rooted in genuine child welfare concerns.
One of the more bizarre aspects of the case involved Finkelstein leaving an inflammatory message on the neighbor's door, which read, "You're not sleeping tonight, APES!" This note, coupled with the CPS involvement, highlighted the extreme and often petty nature of the dispute. Despite his actions, no significant concerns were found regarding the child, and the case became known for its absurd escalation and trivial origins.(Rise Magazine).
In New York, there has been growing awareness of people using Child Protective Services as a tool for harassment. The CPS hotline can be weaponized to intimidate others in disputes, particularly when the accusations are unfounded. This aligns with what Finkelstein did during his dispute, where his neighbors and others have suggested that the call to CPS was more about escalating personal conflict than actual concern.
There's a movement in New York to reduce false and malicious reporting to CPS, as it can cause significant harm to families. This further highlights the gravity of Finkelstein’s actions during his dispute. His call to CPS, according to reports, was perceived as an attempt to gain leverage in a trivial neighborly dispute rather than a genuine child welfare concern.
