Ojamajo Doremi ([おジャ魔女どれみ Ojamajo Doremi] Error: ((nihongo)): text has italic markup (help)) is a magical girl anime series. There are four television series, two movies and a thirteen episode OVA in the metaseries. A manga adaptation was published by Kodansha written by Izumi Todo and illustrated by Shizue Takanashi.

Story

The series anime focuses on two main themes. The first is the heroines' efforts to become skilled in the art of magic, and secondly the friendships and relationships between them in the human world. In Majo-kai, the world of witches, they focus on fighting enemies, the Queen's fearful predecessor, or hostile wizards. In the human world however, they use their magical talents to help those in need. Being trainees in magic, their powers often do not immediately provide a solution to their problems. In the end, the primary moral of these stories is not about power, but about kindness and compassion.

Plot

There are four story arcs to Ojamajo Doremi, each one considered a season and spanning one year.

• Ojamajo Doremi: Third grader and witch enthusiast Doremi Harukaze finds herself lost while walking home from school one day and ends up at an old witch's shop called the Maho-dou. Curious, she goes inside and sees a robed, old lady named Majo Rika sitting in a rocking chair. Doremi freaks out and calls her out on being a real witch, which transforms Majo Rika into a blob-like magical frog. Now, much to Doremi's excitement, she must train to become a real witch with Majo Rika in order to restore her original form. Along the way, her friends Hazuki Fujiwara and Aiko Senoo stumble upon her secret and become witch apprentices too. The girls must pass nine exams in order to become full witches, but it won't be easy as they must deal with school problems, cursed cards and an evil wizard named Oyajiide, and a rival witch named Majo Ruka and her own apprentice, Onpu Segawa.

• Ojamajo Doremi ♯: A year has passed since the beginning of Doremi and her friend's witch apprenticeship. Majo Ruka and Majo Rika have made up, and as a result, Onpu becomes friends with Doremi and the others. The Queen of the Witch World, who has been monitoring the progress of all four girls up to this point, has decided to assign them to a special task. She secretly leads them back into the Witch World where they witness the birth of a magical baby, who they name Hana. The Queen assigns the girls the task of being Hana's mother for one year, and grants them new powers to assist them. However, the wizard Oyajiide has other plans, and plots to kidnap baby Hana, and the Queen also charges the girls with protecting her from Oyajiide and his followers.

• Ojamajo Doremi Na-i-sho: This is a 13 episode OVA series which takes place during the Motto! season. There is no storyline.

In Japan, Ojamajo Doremi has aired on each of the ANN TV stations (Asahi Broadcasting Corporation (ABC, Japan), TV Asahi, Nagoya TV (Metele), and others) and Broadcasting System of San-in Inc.. Ojamajo Doremi is produced by Toei Animation and ABC.

In North America, 4Kids Entertainment has licensed the show under the title Magical DoReMi, which aired on 4Kids TV for the 2005-2006 broadcasting season. New episodes are posted every Tuesday on the website.

Kodansha published six volumes of manga which span several story arcs. They were drawn by Shizue Takanashi and ran in Nakayoshi from 1999 to early 2003.
