Hi Jim, This is Karl again. You replied to my first question I posted I guess in Teahouse a week ago on Sunday but all week I have been unable to determine very basic concepts within this Wikipedia user community now and it has become increasingly frustrating and I have deadlines upon me and I'm now freaking out. To start, I could not even reply to you. I read your answer to my inquiry on Sunday 6/11 about my book creator continually crashing on me and not always saving it and being able to easily find it again to retrieve it. You of course found it immediately and were kind enough to reply to me with a link to it asking me if that was it. But I do not know why I could not simply continue the conversation so I could answer you and tell you that, yes, that was one of the saved versions but other issues had since developed that I am in need of assistance. I swear, I have clicked all over the place and all to no avail, until finally I found myself back at your page and following your directions just clicked at the top on "New section" so I could reach out to you. Isn't there an easier way???
I still see the "conversation" so to speak, in the Teahouse from last Sunday, but as I mentioned, all I can do is view/read it; I cannot continue anything with it and I don't understand why that is. What is the point of that? There must be a way.
I explored some on your user page and got the jist of your bio and see that you have become quite the experienced Wikipedia user and have a great history of being very generous and kind in helping newbies like myself. So I definitely appreciate that but also do not want to bombard you singularly with all of my various questions and confusion, but honestly, I don't know where else to turn, so I really hope you can help me.
My questions began simply centered around the creation of my personal book I have been trying to compile as a gift in a way to family members for my big European trip in less than 2 wks so that they could have some sort of reference for all the various places I'll be going to. I want them to be able to benefit from all my hours and months of research as well.
But as I fleshed out my book, unfortunately growing it in size as I tried to include so many more new relevant topics, I found myself encountering so many other challenges along the way which have just led to more questions now than answers, and not just about the book anymore but also being a new user in general, such as how to continue that conversation for example.
One of the first things I learned last Sunday was that apparently every time I saved a new draft of my book, that counted as an "edit" so before my 1st day as a new user was done I had already reached my required minimum 10 edits to automatically move me after 4 days to the next level of user access as an autoconfirmed user instead of just new user, which was cool and definitely not what I was expecting since I thought they'd have to be "actual edits" of other pages of which I'd done 2 so far because my primary focus right now is on the completion of the book first, but I got an alert later that night indicating I had done my 10th edit. But.....now that it has been 8 days I am wondering also why my account does not show me as being autoconfirmed now. Or does it but I'm just not seeing it??
Other general user account questions I now have that I have not been able to answer on my own center around my page. I'm logged in but when I click on my user name at the top of my screen thinking it will take me to my new user page, instead the page gives a message stating that that page does not exist. Huh?? How can that be? Is that simply because I have not created it yet? It just states: "Wikipedia does not have a user page with this exact name. In general, this page should be created and edited by User:KarlderGrosse843." I'm logged in so why does it not recognize that I AM that user? Anyway, I think I was expecting to be able to go to my new user page and see my books I've created but every time I try to locate the books I get sent on a wild goose chase. Is there an easier, faster way to view the books? I want to know this not only for my continued editing of them but also to be able to tell my family members how they can locate it to view it themselves but right now I'm stuck because I don't know how to do that.
I also tried to create the final version as a PDF but after it went through the process it displayed a screen with only this message: "Book rendering failed There was an error while attempting to render your book.
Return to Main Page."
I am assuming now it failed because my book has now gotten much larger than it originally was and it's too big? But I read in the Book pages that the parameters are no more than 500 articles or 800 pages. Unfortunately the Book Creator does not tell me how many pages the book is, so a few days ago I took my new "master copy" that contained everything I wanted pertinent to all 10 days of our trip and instead of the original 38 pages which then became about 105, now I think it is 147! But I took that one and essentially cut it in half to have two books that I want to entitle Part 1 and Part 2 and make available for family members who are not users to freely access. When I saved a new version as Part 1 and of course with a different title so it would not override my "master complete copy", that one was able to render the book as a PDF, so I could email that if I wanted. And now it finally tells me how many pages it is. Like I said though, I just wish it would give us a running count before that step is completed as well as the reason why the rendering failed. Why would it not just inform me that the book has too many pages and must be partitioned? Regardless, as you can see from viewing my page or my books or wherever/however you locate it all, there are still several earlier drafts that will ultimately need to be deleted, but I am extremely hesitant to do that before I know for sure the final versions have been saved properly and are able to be accessed and rendered. But.....in viewing my mess of a list of the books with variations of the same name to make them different files, you should be able to see one that is a "final version". That should be my master copy that is apparently too big. And there will be a final version part 1. But I could not get the system to allow me to do the part 2 (the 2nd half of the master version) yet because I don't know how to reply to the prompt I am getting which seems rather contradictory as well as confusing. Looking at the Book Creator page now in a different tab it no longer displays the first half and showing my table of contents, etc. but the middle link: Show Book has 0 pages in parenthesis yet still displays a pop up box that says:
Click "OK" to continue with your book ("July 2017 Europe Trip") which contains 69 wiki pages. Click "Cancel" to delete it and start with an empty book.
If Show Book indicates 0 pages, how can I still be "in" this other book referenced in the line above (which is my new Part 1) that says it has 69 pages? I have not clicked cancel yet because I'm afraid it may delete it even though I have it saved. What should I do?
I know I have posed SEVERAL different questions to you in here and I'm sorry if it's been a little hard to follow, realizing that what I have just written to you was not clearly organized but that's partly because it's all kind of jumbled in my own head right now and hard to separate each question into individual inquiries, but hopefully I have not lost you along the way and you can provide the relief I am looking for with how to do all these different functions. Thank you SOOO much in advance. -Karl KarlderGrosse843 (talk) 22:00, 19 June 2017 (UTC)
Hey Jim! Thankyou for your reply to my previous query for draft:Anita Yadav. I have made the required changes. My name is Fran and i'v changed my username to frany90.And the draft is unpaid. Please can you tell how much time will it take to shift the draft to main search /encyclopedia?

According to wikipedia, its content is not censored. But seeing and showing Nudity is strictly strictly forbidden in my religion Islam. I do not want to see porn pictures while reading wikipedia. I have tried to turn off its images through my skin.css page. But the images are still being shown. Please see my page skin.css, edit it yourself or point out what mistake is being made by me for which the images are not being turned off.

I am very thankful to you for your greetings. I can read a Battenburg pattern. I will be thankful if you could tell me how I can use this option while visiting pages. i.e. When I open the page then the pictures are in form of graph, and when I click at a picture, then it appears to me.
Sinner (talk) 04:18, 25 June 2017 (UTC)
I admit that the tools are available but the problem is that I have tried my best to use these tools but I could not activate the tool on my account. If I completely turn off the pictures then I will not be able to see pictures from those articles which are not prohibited in my jurisdiction. I tried to turn off pictures from some specific articles. I tried not to make some mistake but I remained unsuccessful. This is the only problem. As an experienced wikipedian, if you turn off pictures of these articles by editing or asking someone other to edit my skin.css page, then I shall be very thankful to you for your kindness.
Sinner (talk) 06:04, 25 June 2017 (UTC)
From your last answer, I can realize that I am teasing you. Am I right?
Sorry! If it is.
But sir these 7 articles are for example, if I start creating a complete list then number of articles will reach hundreds and if I start research the 35% content of wikipedia will be porn. I shall be very happy, if you can, turn off pictures of all the articles that relate to categories of nudity, gender and human physiology, just to me. You have not enough time to do this and I know, you will not do this. Therefore, I requested only 7 articles. I would not had disturbed you if I could turn off pictures from such pages myself. I think you will consider what I am saying. Sir please answer soon, I have been waiting for your response for a long time.

Respected sir,
I'm new user of wikipedia and I added new page on Hacker Nucleus on wikipedia and I also added sufficient references and external links but still my new page marked as speedy deletion. So, how can I remove that tag?
By the way I can add more references and external links

Thank you for your time and effort in editing Wikipedia. The article I created, Quemar Press, is being discussed for deletion. I wonder if I simply could improve the article? I just added more independent references to Quemar Press in Mainstream Media, such as The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Guardian and Mainstream Literature such as that of Giramondo Publishing. Does that help solve the problem? Thank you for your advice. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JMMNMT (talk • contribs) 21:39, 28 June 2017 (UTC)

Hello Cullen328
The article "Nader El-Bizri" has recently attracted the attention of some editors even though it exists since 2008 with many edits by diverse users over the years. The recent approach to the article by some users has not been done with patience and to properly look at sources.
For example since El-Bizri is an academic, the first official and reliable source would be his university formal website which is: https://www.aub.edu.lb/fas/cvsp/Pages/El-Bizri.aspx This website contains his university formal summary CV that is downloadable as PDF: https://www.aub.edu.lb/fas/cvsp/Documents/Nader%20El-Bizri%20Summary%20CV%20(Spring%202017).pdf These give the formal details as vetted by the university
Then, as an example of the prestigious awards he received, check the following Ordered Universe Project under the patronage of the AHRC in the UK: https://ordered-universe.com/2015/12/04/kuwait-honours-professor-nader-el-bizri-arabic-science-and-philosophy/ Also see this as noted on the university website: https://www.aub.edu.lb/news/2015/Pages/kfas-3.aspx
He was also ranked 59 amongst all Thought Leaders in the Arab world (and this groups not only philosophers but scientists, journalists, activists, religious authorities, poets) [http://www.thoughtleaders.world/en/arabic-2016/ If you search within the rankings and designate the subfield of philosophy, he is 3rd in the Arab world (and the Arabs have very rarely living philosophers nowadays!).
This is the tip of what you can find about him, if time is taken properly, and all the editing decisions are not made with haste or by users who have no knowledge of academia
Can anyone look into the article "Nader El-Bizri" after having searched properly and taken the time to read the sources? This is serious and if not handled properly can result in damage to the living person concerned.
I am an academician and not able to dedicate time to following wikipedia, but I am rather shocked how academics and scholars are here at the mercy of editors/users who make editorial decisions with haste and do not think about the consequences on living persons. Is there a way you can look into this or suggest it as a matter to be considered by responsible and serious editors with some knowledge of the humanities?
Thank you (AcademeEditorial (talk) 15:30, 8 July 2017 (UTC))
Hi Jim
Thanks for your response in the Tea House on my proposed article about my father (User:Robertjgray/sandbox) who died last year and your offer to discuss this.
I'm inclined to agree with your view that the lowest level of the Legion d' Honneur does not make a good case for notability although I see a number of entries in the List of foreign recipients of the Légion d'Honneur do in fact have short entries e.g. Bill_Cross with, in this case, only a single reference.
The case for notability is that my father received considerable press coverage in both the UK and Germany (as well as elsewhere) when he started the campaign to preserve the ruins of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin. He went on to meet the British Prime Minister, David Cameron although I was not able to find a suitable independent reference for this.
Perhaps the most obvious shortfall is that I am not independent, hence my request for guidance in the Tea House.
If you have the time I'd appreciate your opinion.

Hello Cullen328. I saw that you are a host at the Teahouse, so I decided to ask you directly here, just in case the Teahouse post doesn't receive a reply.
Today morning, I looked at some deletion notices for transportation articles. There were many articles about bus terminals and each one was individually tagged for deletion. So I tried to combine and merge them and created List of bus stations in Singapore to save the content. In another discussion, someone had suggested to create an entire list of bus stops (instead of individual articles), so I applied the same advice here. I modeled the article after seeing List of former bus stations in Singapore along with List of bus stations in Wales, List of Greyhound Bus stations, List of Perth bus stations, List of bus and coach stations in London. I liked the table layouts but I don't know how to create a table, so I just pasted them in a list, intending to learn the table layout and edit the article later.
However, I just checked it right now and it is tagged with a deletion banner. I was given no alert or email. Is there a way so that I can receive an update when an article I created is tagged for deletion?
I am also a bit disappointed that my article will be deleted. I spent a lot of time trying to learn how to copy within Wikipedia and I also put proper attribution. There are similar articles about bus terminals and I tried very hard to follow all the merge and attribution rules. So I don't understand what I am doing wrong. I understand that the article doesn't have a lot of references, but many articles do not have references. There are lots of articles about New Delhi which still don't have references (even though the information is correct as per my personal knowledge). However, when I took one of them and searched a bit, I did mange to find some references as well. Perhaps all it requires is a bit of time.
Is there any way I can improve the article so that it is not deleted? Should I create a table for the data and remove some of the information which is too detailed? I would be happy to receive some advice on how to proceed here. Thank you.--DreamLinker (talk) 16:03, 7 July 2017 (UTC)
What would be your advice to seek knowledgable evaluations on the discussions taking place under the deletion discussion of the article "Nader El-Bizri", or proper refereeing? The user that initiated the deletion is now taking the discussion towards the merits of the Kuwait foundation and this cycle can continue endlessly. Are there users who have knowledge in the arts and humanities that can contribute to this discussion or that it is flagged to the attention of such expert editors? The webpage of the user who initiated the deletion should be looked at closely since in normal circumstances some etiquette or minimal expertise in a given area should be available to make the judgement carry weight, in this case an academic is being judged by a user who specializes in the bios of businessmen and billionaires. Unsubstantiated judgements in this regard are mere opinions, and the motives behind opinions may not be clear or reliable (AcademeEditorial (talk) 11:32, 10 July 2017 (UTC))

Jim, I am so, so pleased you are finally running for RfA. The picture of your lovely doggie was my wallpaper for ages. Just a lovely dear sitting all pretty with his wee little paws like that. Plus, I love what you and your wife have done with your lives, and all the help you have been to people. Just wonderful! Hi, I'm forwarding this to here because it seemed like nobody wanted to answer it in the teahouse, and you were the person recommended to me in that initial talk page message. My question might just be a little too granular. . . . Anyway, I've been trying to be more thorough in my checking of policy before making editorial decisions as I've come to realize just how much policy there is, and something that's been bugging me is the usage is of Template:Interlanguage link vs Template:Interlanguage Link (pardon if formatting is messy I can't preview bc the teahouse is weird). The Interlanguage links help page says that "It is sometimes possible to combine the two approaches" of leaving the English redlink with the parenthetical ILL after it, but I can't imagine a reason why this approach would ever be impossible. I mostly just want to know what the preferred option is, because up till now I've been trying to avoid redlinks and hence linking to people like Pierpaolo Vargiu in such a way that the redlink isn't visible but now that I'm seeing ILL templates left and right I'm not sure if this is right. Should I be using Pierpaolo Vargiu in such situations? Mehmuffin (talk) 14:46, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

In the very least, at least temporarily. I don't want to jinx anything, but the most number of support votes ever in an unopposed RfA was Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Ealdgyth, with 250 in support (with two neutrals). About an hour ago, you surpassed that, currently sitting at 256 supports. For all RfAs, that's now tied for the 3rd most ever. No matter the final outcome, this is nothing short of historic. Bravo! --Hammersoft (talk) 20:08, 20 July 2017 (UTC)
Don't make me have to hat this! You're going to jinx it. We've all see this before. A candidate gets a scarce 265 !votes and then suddenly, a storm of opposes and it all goes pear-shaped. He's not out of the woods yet! Anna Frodesiak (talk) 04:25, 21 July 2017 (UTC)

Hello Cullen ! If you can remember I have asked a question from you at RfA and even before you replied I have voted strong support. I always believed you are a great contributor and a blessing to the Wikipedia. I hope you will be the best sysop too ! I had a request, can you please devote some of your time at Administrator notice board especially the BLP one, it is a very serious issue. If you have got some time would you please entertain the request at WP:PERM, especially the New page reviewers(NPP) one, as there are more than 16000 New page yet to be review. Requesting you to specially give tools to the good people who come to request NPP rights as many articles at the New pages feeds and backlog are yet to be reviewed. I had cleared some 300 plus pages since I got NPP rights ,I would have loved to clear entire backlog at NPP ,but as I use a small Android device to edit Wikipedia, it is quite difficult
More reviewers can help !
