Hello,
Beginning in September 2017, the Wikimedia Foundation Anti-harassment tool team will be conducting a survey to gauge how well tools, training, and information exists to assist English Wikipedia administrators in recognizing and mitigating things like sockpuppetry, vandalism, and harassment.
The survey should only take 5 minutes, and your individual response will not be made public. This survey will be integral for our team to determine how to better support administrators.
To take the survey sign up here and we will send you a link to the form.
We really appreciate your input!
Please let us know if you wish to opt-out of all massmessage mailings from the Anti-harassment tools team.

I am drafting my workshop comments there. Have I screwed up in any way? Do I delete unneeded parameters, or should I fill them? Have I filled too few parameters? Am I way off-base? pbp 20:37, 19 September 2017 (UTC)

And DocumentError's whole participation at ArbComm seems to be based not on Rubin's actions or the case but on his multi-year obsession with me (in the diffs all references to "User:PBS's friend" are a cute way of not naming me). [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] and block log for context [6]
His user contributions tell the story [7] Between mid Jan 2015 and Aug 13, 2015 DocError spent almost all his time at ANi fighting me, blocked, or fiddling with his unblock requests. Between August 13, 2015 and Sept 14, 2017, DocError made just 17 edits in only 3 editing days. On Sept 14 he resurfaced to post at ArbComm critical of me [8] and he has only made a handful of non-arbcomm edits since which include posting negative things about me on two talkpages: [9] and this series of posts at [10].
This WP:SPA type focus is not healthy. Suggestions or solutions? I don't expect his posts to influence the committee much, but this is spreading beyond ArbComm now. Legacypac (talk) 08:51, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
Hi Checkusers and Checkuser clerks,
The Anti-Harassment Tools team is seeking input about building the Interaction Timeline feature.
We’re inviting you to join the discussion because you use similar tools such as the Editor Interaction Analyser and User compare report during sockpuppet investigations.
You can leave comments on the on wiki discussion page or send an email to the Anti-Harassment Tools team.

Hi there. I wanted to let you know that 2 of the accounts you recently tagged were attributed to the wrong sockmaster as seen in this CU case, they are actually socks of another vandal, User:Incorrigible Troll. That guy has a tendency to impersonate other sockmasters, in addition to severe trolling of other users. Can you please change the tags for User:UnderArmourKid did Hurricane Irma and User:Pikachu GD accordingly? I don't want anyone to be confused be the tags. Thanks. Hello! Last year, you signed up to participate in Wikipedia Asian Month (WAM) 2016 on the English Wikipedia. The event was an international success, with hundreds of editors creating thousands of articles on Asian topics across dozens of different language versions of Wikipedia.
I'd like to invite you to join us for Wikipedia Asian Month 2017, which once again lasts through the month of November. The goal is for users to create new articles on Asian-related content, each at least 3,000 bytes and 300 words in length. Editors who create at least four articles will receive a Wikipedia Asian Month postcard!
Also be sure to check out the Wikipedia Asian Art Month affiliate event - creating articles on Asian art topics can get you a Metropolitan Museum of Art postcard!
If you're interested, please sign up here for the English Wikipedia. If you are interested in also working on other language editions of Wikipedia, please visit the meta page to see other participating projects. If you have any questions, please visit our talk page.
Thank you!
- User:SuperHamster and User:Titodutta on behalf of The English Wikipedia WAM Team
This will be the last message you receive from the English Wikipedia WAM team for being a 2016 participant. If you sign up for WAM 2017, you will continue receiving periodic updates on the 2017 event.

Hi. We're into the last five days of the Women in Red World Contest. There's a new bonus prize of $200 worth of books of your choice to win for creating the most new women biographies between 0:00 on the 26th and 23:59 on 30th November. If you've been contributing to the contest, thank you for your support, we've produced over 2000 articles. If you haven't contributed yet, we would appreciate you taking the time to add entries to our articles achievements list by the end of the month. Thank you, and if participating, good luck with the finale!
User CodyCruickshank here, IP address 122.148.253.11 and you'd know my email address. Since your ban on my account until late September of next year which I still feel is ridiculously excessive, I have made further factual edits on articles from the following IPs: 58.167.85.144, 121.216.126.100, 121.217.9.249, 101.161.11.111, 101.175.197.137 and 121.216.126.110. You can check for yourself, I've not made a single shred of vandalism on any of the edits from those addresses. I want to continue fairly contributing to more articles but I can't continue to do so from other peoples' houses. I've got nothing to hide. Will you at least attempt to have my account and home IP unbanned by the end of February? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.167.85.144 (talk • contribs)
The Wikimedia Foundation Community health initiative (led by the Safety and Support and Anti-Harassment Tools team) is conducting a survey for en.wikipedia contributors on their experience and satisfaction level with the Administrator’s Noticeboard/Incidents. The survey should take 10-20 minutes to answer, and your individual responses will not be made public. The survey is delivered through Google Forms. The privacy policy for the survey describes how and when Wikimedia collects, uses, and shares the information we receive from survey participants and can be found here:

I've caused this year to end on a chord of disappointment for many, but I hope that despite my mistakes and the differences in opinion and perspectives, and regardless of what the outcome is or in what capacity I can still contribute in the coming year, we can continue working together directly or indirectly on this encyclopedic project, whose ideals are surely carried by both of our hearts. I'm hoping I have not fallen in your esteem to the level where "no hard feelings" can no longer ring true, because I highly respect you and your dedication to Wikipedia, and I sincerely wish you and your loved ones all the best for 2018.

I am trying to greatly improve the WestJet article, even to the point of GA or FA. I want to get more pictures of WestJet Encore. Currently there is only one photo in all of Wikipedia and Commons.
I am writing to you because, more than a year ago, you blocked user Martin Kulcsar, who took the only WestJet Encore photo in all of Wikipedia or Commons. It doesn't do any good for me to write to him.
Do you know of anyone who lives near Toronto airport or Calgary airport that can take some WestJet Encore photos, preferably someone with a good camera? Do you have any suggestions on how to get some photos? Thanks for your help.Vanguard10 (talk) 04:54, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi Mkdw. You indef'd CodyCruickshank back in September 2017, and were also involved in Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/CodyCruickshank/Archive, so I figured you would be a good person to ask. I think they might be back as Special:Contributions/125.168.151.10. It's just a hunch, but CodyCruickshank had problems understanding non-free content use policy which lead to Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2017 May 29#File:2015 NRL Logo.png, then yesterday the IP shows up and starts adding the logo to various articles. It could just a coincidence I guess, but I don't a complete newbie would know enough to try and edit a non-free use rationale before adding the logo to various pages. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:58, 31 March 2018 (UTC)

Hello,
I am E. Whittaker, an intern at Wikimedia with the Scoring Team to create a labeled dataset, and potentially a tool, to help editors deal with incivility when they encounter it on talk pages. A full write-up of the study can be found here: m:Research:Civil_Behavior_Interviews. We are currently recruiting editors to be interviewed about their experiences with incivility on talk pages. Would you be interested in being interviewed? I am contacting you because of your involvement in Wikipedia’s Women in Red project. The interviews should take ~1 hour, and will be conducted over BlueJeans (which does allow interviews to be recorded). If, so, please email me at ewhit@umich.edu in order to schedule an interview.

I have to take issue with your decision, on Nov. 4, to delete the article I had posted on Frederick Klenner. None of the editors who voted to delete refuted a single fact presented in the Frederick Klenner article. Instead, they vented their prejudice against the nutritional therapy practiced by Dr. Klenner.
Guy, who launched the deletion campaign, set the tone by branding Klenner “a figure in the world of orthomolecular quackery” — with no substantiation. When I pointed out that the clinical data presented in the article enabled any medical doctor or researcher to test — and perhaps refute — Klenner’s therapeutic claims, Guy haughtily responded: “His claims have already been tested and found to be false. In any case that is irrelevant to Wikipedia's notability standards…” I then challenged Guy to “cite a single scientific experiment that used Klenner’s dosing of sodium ascorbate and refuted his clinical findings” — and he lapsed into silence.
By laying bare Klenner’s clinical methods and procedures, the Klenner article enabled falsifiability. The editors who voted to delete, on the other hand, showed their scorn for falsifiability: None of them had the openness of mind to propose: If such-and-such therapeutic claims get confirmed by scientific experiments, I will no longer reject Klenner’s clinical methods.
Obviously, the question of notability hinges on whether Klenner’s clinical findings prove valid: If they do, he will rank as one of the greatest doctors in world history. The deletion crew employed circular logic to argue against notability: Klenner is not notable, they argued, because his therapeutic claims are invalid. They presented no facts to support this latter premise, simply presuming it a priori.
I feel we should respect the intelligence of Wikipedia readers, enabling them to form their own opinions as to whether — and to what degree — Frederick Klenner was notable. Danslation (talk) 08:09, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
An editor has asked for a deletion review of Frederick Klenner. Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Danslation (talk) 09:15, 25 November 2018 (UTC)
"But it's true!" is not a sufficient reason to keep information on Wikipedia. The purpose of Wikipedia is to be an encyclopedia of high quality. To pursue that mission, a number of standards, guidelines and policies have been set in place. Based on these policies, some information or articles will be deleted even though they may be true.
The WiR December editathons provide something for everyone.

I was wondering if there was a way in which I can save the changes without publishing it. I am still writing a draft and would like to see how it looks on the page without actually publishing it yet. I have read your feedback and appreciate the advice you have given me. Thank you in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jcarmenwu (talk • contribs) 19:43, 27 November 2018 (UTC)

May I (or would you) leave a note on my talkpage requesting that any DYK-related discussions be conducted at WP:TRM since it appears the TBAN extends to my own talkpage, yet not WP:TRM or its talkpage...? Preferably a message box at the top as I do have significant traffic on my regular talkpage (as well as the thousands of monthly pageviews of my errors page..) It also appears that should I respond to a message on my talkpage related to DYK or its process that it would also be an infringement, even if it were just to direct people to the talk page of WP:TRM? Is that correct? Can I also clarify that if this is an infringement of said TBAN, could it be removed without incurring a two-month block? I would have mentioned this earlier but have had one or two distracting days. Cheers. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:57, 13 December 2018 (UTC)

hello, I was just doing a (very, very infrequent) check of some of the pages I've helped create over the years and noticed this one had been deleted. I'm sure it must have fallen into disrepair... I would be happy to write a new page (and would like access to the old content if possible if we replace it).
Why? The IWA was created during the period a very nascent webcasting/streaming industry was starting to exist. As a body it was founded in the US and I created a European chapter. Although it's no longer in action, I think it has some historical value as a reference during those formative days. I've started writing up some of this history here https://dgen.net/0/webcasting-history/
Happy to take your advice on what to do next ... and, given a few other things I created over a decade ago seem to be falling to a similar fate, how to assess & position things appropriately so they are less likely to vanish.
I noted, for example, that some of the comments made were that they couldn't find many references to it online (e.g. Awards). This is clearly tricky to come back on, but many of the references to it were on mailing lists and sites that don't exist any more. I can do a trawl through the internet archive as well if that helps.
many thanks Gavin Starks (talk) 06:50, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

Hi Mkdw, thanks for your great advice. Can I ask you a general question: If person A hates person B for some reason, so person A continues to say bad words about person B at person A's self-press, which got spread and uploaded such article or video to youtube or other BBS, and person A add such bad words to Wikipedia with reference of his self-press and the other uploaded articles or BBS threads. Is person A's behavior on Wikipedia considered "rightful" or legal under Wikipedia policy? Wraper11 (talk) 18:15, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

Hello, I appreciate your clarification on here few moments ago, but this is really new for me as I never experienced something like this before - and I have been around for decade or more. You directed me toward seeking other options in dispute resolution - I guess 3O should be place to start - before eventually return to Arb request, but what happens when article and/or issue is too obscure and uninteresting for community to get involved, what should I do if no other editors, not mention admins, are interested or willing to approach and offer opinion, comment, assistance or what ever is appropriate under the circumstances. If nothing happens, and I have a feeling that is real possibility, what is left for me eventually.--౪ Santa ౪99° 18:42, 26 March 2019 (UTC)

Thursday April 4 and Friday April 5: Translat-a-thon NYC 2019 @ LaGuardia Community College | |
Translat-a-thon NYC 2019 @ LaGuardia Community College is hosting the second annual Wikipedia Translatathon! At this event on Thursday evening and during the day Friday this week, anyone from the public is invited to LaGuardia to join students, professors, and CUNY faculty in translating Wikipedia articles among any languages which attendees understand. Themes for this event include public health and the history of New York City. New York City has a large immigrant population and great diversity of speakers of various languages. Among all schools in New York City, LaGuardia has the highest percentage of immigrant students, the highest percentage of students who speak a language other than English as their first language, and the greatest representation of language diversity. It is a strength of LaGuardia that it can present "Wikipedia translatathons", which are Wikipedia translation events. |

Administrators must secure their accounts

Mkdw, I read the lengthy discussion resulting from this, and I want to thank you for your own comments in response to the concerns there. You were truly the grown-up in the room. Thanks. --Tryptofish (talk) 20:05, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.
Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.
We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.
For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:04, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

Hullo, I am asking for your expertise in resolving a copyright charge that was leveled against an article that I wrote. After writing the article I was hit by a car and unable to use computers for 6 months. Signing back onto Wikipedia I was startled by the notice because I do not plagiarize material. That said, after reviewing the copyright charge (which used Ervios Copyright check) I noticed that the material in question was a listing of books written by and awards given to the subject. I believe that I ma correct in this assessment but would like to appeal to someone with greater experience than I have to review my work and to let me know if I have indeed committed plagiarism and if so, how to fix it. I am aware that you are busy and have not expectation that you will respond to my request anytime soon. Please let me know if you would be willing.

I have previously attempted to rename the case Civility Enforcement 2. As substantive comment had been made by the community by that time, I was told that would be inappropriate without Committee consent. Additionally, as my request for a word limit extension was denied, I have not been able to sufficiently comment in support of an expanded scope. The most I could do was shoehorn: The request is to review the matter in its entirety. Eric as an issue or as victim; irrelevant. I just want it settled conclusively by arbcom, please.

This appears to be a truly fascinating shot at the fact that a case can (and maybe will) be accepted with ill definition yet a majority of Arbs in favour (in their own way) of hearing a case. Is that what you were saying? The Rambling Man (Staying alive since 2005!) 20:06, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
