Question from Abhay69420 (13:28, 26 February 2023)
Hello, I have submitted a draft twice and it didn't work, when I was ready to publish and submit it again I couldn't. How do I submit it again? --Abhay69420 (talk) 13:28, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Like you did previously. However, it's not that your draft "didn't work", your draft was not published as it had other issues. Have you tried fixing those issues before resumbitting the draft again? --SHB2000 (talk) 20:33, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Technical news
Progress has started on the Page Triage improvement project. This is to address the concerns raised by the community in their 2022 WMF letter that requested improvements be made to the tool.
Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.
Technical news
Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.
Arbitration
The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.

I’m a very close friend of Dan Glickman for over 28 years and he’s asked me to update his wikipedia page. I did so and received a message from a user named MrOllie who reverted my changes and said I need to register something. Dan is not paying me, but someone else may in the future. What do I need to do to set that up?
Thanks,

What can I do if I know (or strongly suspect) that something in an article is incorrect, but the piece of information has a citation that backs up the claim, and I have no citation to refute it? Right now I'm thinking in particular about the article for the film Space Monster Wangmagwi. I've recently watched the film, and some of the things in the related article don't seem correct. The article says the plot is a "space variation on the plot to King Kong", which I can say is patently not true, but the citation provided (an encyclopedia of science-fiction films) lines up with the article's description. I take similar issue with the claim that the film had 157,000 extras, but, once again, there is a citation that seems to corroborate that figure (albeit only by a passing mention).
Is there anything I can/should be doing to correct this, or similarly dubious statements in other articles? --HumbleSolipsist1 (talk) 11:28, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, HumbleSolipsist1! This honestly depends on the case. Since I don't know the nitty-gritties of this specific film, it would be best to bring this issue up on Talk:Space Monster Wangmagwi and see what others have got to say. If that doesn't work or if you have any more queries, feel free to contact me :-). Best, --SHB2000 (talk) 11:50, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A discussion at WP:VPP about revision deletion and oversight for dead names found that [s]ysops can choose to use revdel if, in their view, it's the right tool for this situation, and they need not default to oversight. But oversight could well be right where there's a particularly high risk to the person. Use your judgment.
The SmallCat dispute case has closed. As part of the final decision, editors participating in XfD have been reminded to be careful about forming local consensus which may or may not reflect the broader community consensus. Regular closers of XfD forums were also encouraged to note when broader community discussion, or changes to policies and guidelines, would be helpful.

Question from FoxGloveSkittles (22:52, 17 October 2023)
Hello, I was wondering how to find reliable sources, while still not copying and pasting. Have you ever had this problem? And how do you deal with it? --FoxGloveSkittles (talk) 22:52, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, FoxGloveSkittles, thanks for asking! One thing to always keep in mind while editing any WMF project is that copyright violations are never permitted. That means that regardless of where you find your information from, you must never copy and paste anything verbatim unless it's a direct quotation. To deal with this, you should always paraphrase and write in your own words. Hope that helps! --SHB2000 (talk) 07:27, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Following a motion, the contentious topic designation of Prem Rawat has been struck. Actions previously taken using this contentious topic designation are still in force.
Following several motions, multiple topic areas are no longer designated as a contentious topic. These contentious topic designations were from the Editor conduct in e-cigs articles, Liancourt Rocks, Longevity, Medicine, September 11 conspiracy theories, and Shakespeare authorship question cases.
Following a motion, remedies 3.1 (All related articles under 1RR whenever the dispute over naming is concerned), 6 (Stalemate resolution) and 30 (Administrative supervision) of the Macedonia 2 case have been rescinded.
Following a motion, remedy 6 (One-revert rule) of the The Troubles case has been amended.
An arbitration case named Industrial agriculture has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case close 8 November.

Question from Sunandshade (08:08, 12 November 2023)
Thank you for being my mentor. I'm a newbie & thought I could help by fixing spelling & grammar errors. On my homepage, I looked for "easy" edits in biology. But they all suggested re-writes as opposed to spelling errors. Is there a way to find just spelling/grammar errors? --Sunandshade (talk) 08:08, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Sunandshade. I usually look through Wikipedia:Lists of common misspellings and then enter each word in the search box – if the an article has a spelling or grammar error, I'd fix it and then move on to the next article; if it's deliberate, then I move on (I don't usually do this on enwiki, but more so on other wikis). There is also another tool, Correct a typo in one click, but all errors have been handed on en.wikipedia. Hope that helps! --SHB2000 (talk) 08:32, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I went to wiki's list of misspellings & looked at those & repeated words. For every one, it was legit (in a quote, company name, etc.) Also looked at link for 1 click correction, but as you say, they are all corrected. If they are always corrected each month, seems there are plenty of people working on that. Also, on the Wiki page that lists misspellings, under External Links, I clicked on the 1 link (for misspelled words). It went to that page (https://www.dumbtionary.com/), but the page was blank. It's ironic that a link on the Wiki page that tells you how to correct errors has an error. So at this point, I can't find an easy way to find simple errors to correct. Guess I'll just look for errors when I'm reading Wiki & correct those as needed. Thanks for your help.
P.S. does "enwiki" mean English Wiki? Sunandshade (talk) 18:02, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I guess so – there aren't a lot of noticeable typos on this wiki, unlike Commons, per se. To your second question, yes, enwiki means the English Wikipedia – I say this because the world of Wikimedia consists of around 750+ wikis. --SHB2000 (talk) 20:16, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the info. Turns out I found a few things to change (added def F, italics on scientific name). So I feel a bit helpful. I'll keep my eyes peeled. Sunandshade (talk) 20:25, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message
Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add ((NoACEMM)) to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:55, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Following a talk page discussion, the Administrators' accountability policy has been updated to note that while it is considered best practice for administrators to have notifications (pings) enabled, this is not mandatory. Administrators who do not use notifications are now strongly encouraged to indicate this on their user page.
Arbitration
Following a motion, the Extended Confirmed Restriction has been amended, removing the allowance for non-extended-confirmed editors to post constructive comments on the "Talk:" namespace. Now, non-extended-confirmed editors may use the "Talk:" namespace solely to make edit requests related to articles within the topic area, provided that their actions are not disruptive.
The Arbitration Committee has announced a call for Checkusers and Oversighters, stating that it will currently be accepting applications for CheckUser and/or Oversight permissions at any point in the year.
Question from Sunandshade (05:56, 17 December 2023)
Possible typo in Sandbox banner.
On my Sandbox page, it has a banner. One sentence in the banner says, "Are you ready to request an experienced editor review it for possible inclusion in Wikipedia?" To me, it seems "review it for" should be changed to "review for". Or am I missing something. Doesn't everyone have the same banner? That would be millions of people. And no one thought this was a typo? If you agree it's a typo, should I report it to someone? Should I change it? How. Thanks for your help. --Sunandshade (talk) 05:56, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Sunandshade: Hi, you should probably start a discussion on the relevant talk page. I'm unfortunately not of much use right now given I'm travelling in Aotearoa. --SHB2000 (talk) 00:40, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hope you are having fun. I'll do that but I don't know what the appropriate talk page is. It's not an actual article or even a help page but a banner on my sandbox. Could you tell me which talk page I should use? Thanks. Sunandshade (talk) 04:41, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, yeah, definitely. Sorry for being a bit vague earlier – the relevant page is Template talk:User sandbox. Hope that helps! --SHB2000 (talk) 05:02, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the details. I'll give it a try. That page was created more than 10 years ago & has only 1 entry. If I don't get an answer, I'll try Teahouse. Sunandshade (talk) 05:12, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sure thing – I unfortunately can't do much since I don't have the perms to edit that template. --SHB2000 (talk) 05:14, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I sent my question to the page you recommended & someone immediately gave a short discussion about the issue & fixed it. All within 30 minutes. Amazing. Sunandshade (talk) 19:33, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Following a motion, the Arbitration Committee rescinded the restrictions on the page name move discussions for the two Ireland pages that were enacted in June 2009.
Hi,
It's nice to have an experienced editor/mentor like you.
How long did it take you to be involved in so great a number of edits? Do you do other jobs or this is a full-time devotion?
I hope to hear from you soon. --MDN STAFF (talk) 14:41, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
