Reassessment request: Sidor Belarsky[edit]

Ciao Shushugah; When you have some extra time you might enjoy reassessing the biography about Sidor Belarsky who was a leading Ukrainian/American opera soloist and educator who specialized in preserving and interpreting Judaic folksongs, Chasidic, Nigunim and cantorial music related to the holocaust. Links to his archived performances have been added to his article. You might also enjoy reading about the leading contemporary Jewish/American/German composer/educator Samuel Adler (composer) who narrowly escaped the holocaust in Germany in the late 1930s, emigrated with his father (who was a noted cantor in Mannheim, Germany) to the USA, and returned to Germany after World War II to create the Seventh Army Symphony Orchestra which contributed to the process of creating international peace and understanding in Europe after the war. In addition,, he dedicated his life's work to fostering cultural links between Germany and the USA while mentoring students at two of America's leading music conservatories and composing over works. Enjoy the music. Happy Holidays & Ciao!160.72.80.178 (talk) 16:43, 7 December 2023 (UTC)NHPLReply[reply]

Editing Consent in BDSM[edit]

This article is largely incorrect and lacks legitimate references. I have compiled information from peer-reviewed articles and historical BDSM nonfiction books that I would like to add to this page. I want to go about this respectfully. Can I make a note of what I'm doing on the Talk page of Consent in BDSM and then make the changes, or do I need to go about this differently? SusanWrightAZ (talk) 21:44, 23 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@SusanWrightAZ that sounds like an excellent plan! Reading the talk page is helpful for learning about previous discussions. You don’t have to per WP:BOLD but it’s the golden standard for collaboration. In case someone disagrees with you, they should discuss with you per WP:BRD cycle. Thank you for improving Wikipedia! ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 21:53, 23 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@SusanWrightAZ One more thing, be mindful no one has WP:Ownership of any Wikipedia articles, and given your professional expertise, which is welcome; if you cite sources that are connected to you or your organization, that is okay but it must be declared as a WP:PAID relation. It simply improves transparency for everyone. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 21:56, 23 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thank you for your response! Out of 40 sources that I've compiled, I'm only citing one paper where I'm a co-author, and the NCSF database on Consent for BDSM Appellate cases so people can read all of the case law for themselves. I would be glad to include the disclosure for those two citations, however I am a volunteer rather than an employee of NCSF, and since I'm not paid by them, I wasn't sure if I should include the disclosure. I really appreciate your help. SusanWrightAZ (talk) 23:27, 23 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Relatable. I’m a volunteer with Tech Workers Coalition and while I’m not paid, I definitely have a WP:Conflict of interest so I note it in the talk page. I refrain from directly editing the article in that case, whereas I created Tech union which is analogous to the BDSM article above in terms of expertise but also strong stakes in. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 23:44, 23 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Question from Jcoego (15:54, 8 January 2024)[edit]

Hi, I am creating a language article about my own language but there is no books about my language. --Jcoego (talk) 15:54, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

So, I can't show any reliable source. Jcoego (talk) 15:57, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
This is a case of WP:NOTYET then, since Wikipedia exclusively summarizes what secondary sources say. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 16:41, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
What do you mean? Jcoego (talk) 11:14, 9 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Please read carefully WP:NOT Wikipedia can never be the first website to promote your language, topic or other creative invention. Wikipedia is a WP:TERTIARY source that EXCLUSIVELY summarizes secondary sources. So if there are no books or independent secondary news articles, than you should not attempt to create a Wikipedia article. It will be deleted and be a frustrating experience for everyone. I am glad you brought this up, before finishing a significant draft ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 11:27, 9 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Signpost I/P article[edit]

I may be able to contribute to your article, but I am not clear technically how it works. Is there a previous interview I can view to get an idea? Thank you, Coretheapple (talk) 21:10, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Coretheapple Wonderful! Here’s a previous one I did last year Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2023-02-04/WikiProject report. If you think there are better questions or missing background information, happy to incorporate that. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 21:14, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That's helpful. Thank you. Coretheapple (talk) 21:41, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I guess one suggestion I would make is that all questions be answered by all editors, not just admins/clerks. In my experience there is nothing about the so-called "mop" that conveys better judgment on the matters you're asking about. Any more than giving a real "mop" makes a person better at using it. Coretheapple (talk) 21:54, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Only last three questions are for admins. I’m specifically interested how someone can do janitor activity on a topic that requires extensive subject expertise, yet they simultaneously must not be INVOLVED. There are admins who participate as regular participants. I could make it more explicit that majority of questions are intended for everyone tho. Or do you have a more specific suggestion? ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 21:59, 8 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
On that question that especially interests you (and it is an excellent question), I think the views of people other than admins would also be helpful, and that restricting it to admins alone is inadvisable. Some of us have been with the project much longer than many admins. On that particular question, I would suggest that no subject matter expertise is necessary. Admins are not acting as umpires on content issues. They are dealing with conduct, and conduct alone. It is frustrating to me that admins have shirked their responsibility on I/Ppages, leaving it to one or two admins. Personally I have no interest in the opinion of admins who sit in the bleachers and second-guess admins who go in and do the hard work. Coretheapple (talk) 15:37, 9 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Anyhow, feel free to answer any/all questions. I have adjusted the survey accordingly. I believe conduct alone is the formal administration but in practice it overlaps work content, and this gap is what interests me. @ScottishFinnishRadish agreed to participate. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 16:00, 9 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well I am very glad you are raising it and am also glad that SFR is paricipating. And thank you for making that adjustment. I think that perhaps admins are intimidated by the lengthy history of the conflict and feel they need to educate themselves about it. Wrong! An admin should be able to step into any article and deal with user conduct, as indeed SFR has done. He is just one admin and he has made a difference. Hi Shushugah, I'm writing to you since you're a member of the Nazi affiliation task force. In the article of Willy Bogner Sr., an IP tried to add that person's SS affiliation.
