Comment as nom: This has just opened up a huge rabbit hole of top-level domain redirects. Some target List of Internet top-level domains, some target Generic top-level domain (which I don't think they should since they're not even mentioned there), and some (like everyone's favorite domain name .xn--vermgensberatung-pwb) have no redirect. What do you all think? Should any of these exist? If so, where should they all target? Should I list them all at RfD? –CopperyMarrow15(talk | edits)Feel free to ping me! 00:17, 4 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Delete I don't find the WP:SELFRED argument convincing, but there simply isn't enough substance there to warrant any of these redirects, as the target includes nothing more than a bare list of sports. * Pppery *it has begun... 23:32, 3 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@KylieTastic is there a way to quickly list them instead of individually going through each one? Yoblyblob (talk) 15:53, 4 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Yoblyblob, the best way to find them that I can think of is a WhatLinksHere search with no transclusions or links - this. I think all but the opening and closing ceremony links are in this group, so 19 in total. KylieTastic (talk) 16:07, 4 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@KylieTastic I can find them all, just looking for a way to quickly add them to redirects for discussion, this page. Yoblyblob (talk) 16:20, 4 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Yoblyblob, I took the search results then used a text editor (Notepad++) to do two simple search-replaces on the prefix and suffix to get them into the format

Given the great ambiguity here, it would probably be best to let the search engine handle this one. Edward-Woodrow :) [talk] 21:34, 14 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Keep. Note that "walk or bike" is a common phrase and thus a likely search term (see for example the google trends data). Also both walking and biking are mentioned in the current target article - even the lead states The best-known forms of active mobility are walking and cycling, though other modes include running, rowing, skateboarding, kick scooters and roller skates. - so the target is indeed helpful. Duckmather (talk) 15:58, 15 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I do not dispute either of these arguments, but I still think it's awfully vague. Edward-Woodrow :) [talk] 20:31, 15 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Delete as an ambiguous WP:XY situation. There's multiple targets that this search term could be in reference to, none of which are surefire catch-all options. Utopes(talk / cont) 01:30, 16 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Keep - I disagree about the assertion of "vague". If I am a reader (and I am : ) - and I would like to know about some information/comparison of to "walk or bike" (especially by country), I think this is a very pausible search term. - jc37 22:02, 23 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Keep. Given the target isn't exactly a well-known term, I'm all for giving our searchers a bit of leeway. The best-known forms of active mobility are walking and cycling. --Tavix(talk) 20:40, 26 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

keep. This is not an XY situation as the search term is a common phrase and the target is about both elements. Thryduulf (talk) 21:56, 3 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Comment, if this stays, I would consider creating Walk and bike, Bike or walk, and/or Bike and walk for consistency. The XY comes from referring to walking OR biking, but in this instance the target article does make mention of both, so it could possibly be considered a "compromise" instead of targeting either Walk or Bike. Utopes(talk / cont) 04:27, 4 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It's not really a "compromise" as the search term is describing the scope of the target, in discussions of this concept (which I have far more than a typical person does) the use of "or" and "and" are pretty interchangeable as it depends whether you're thinking of it from the perspective of a single person who might be doing either but not both at the same time, or multiple people who might be walking, cycling or both. I do support the creation of those other redirects. Thryduulf (talk) 09:40, 4 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Not mentioned at target page. This is apparently a type of laptop associated with Libreboot, but its relevance as a search term to end up at a page where it is not discussed is questionable. Utopes(talk / cont) 04:38, 16 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The result of the discussion was No consensus. There are arguments for all of keeping, deleting and disambiguating, all of them about equally strong and none of them has significantly more support than the others. This has been open over 6 weeks already and has been relisted twice, so the likelihood of a consensus emerging now is very low. Thryduulf (talk) 22:58, 31 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Implausible search aids that make it harder to find articles that begin with "A __", no incoming links, and not a generally accepted pattern for redirects. Skynxnex (talk) 13:00, 14 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Delete per nom. These titles are not particularly useful, and they do impede searches for unrelated titles starting with "A". Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 13:22, 14 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Comment: A little interesting that A dog has a noticeably greater amount of pageviews in the last month than the other two here. Still a (relatively) small amount, just curious. Best, user:A smart kittenmeow 13:28, 14 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Keep, especially A dog, see the 90-day n-grams (I haven't checked the rest, but this one is used, probably by children but functional as a redirect per those views). Randy Kryn (talk) 13:51, 14 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
As a cricket nut, this seems like an okay idea. "A cricket" seemed at first to me like natural disambiguation away from cricket, but I suppose it is somewhat plausible for "A cricket" to also refer to A-level cricket, which we should have an article on, though probably not List A cricket). Weak keep. The nom suggests these are implausible search aids, but the search results for these are not great. Dog doesn't even show on the first page of search results for [3]. (I assume the search index is updated since the template was added a whole week ago). Given Randy Kryn's note about usage, we should probably keep. Any necessary disambiguation is fine. —siroχo 05:18, 23 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Delete per nom. The pageviews for "A dog" and the others are unimpressive compared to the target articles [4], so the redirects are probably not that useful. Sjö (talk) 08:44, 26 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Pasting my !vote from 2019: Keep, unambiguously takes searches where they want to go. For example, if someone searches for "A penguin", the article Penguin would be the correct article for that search. --Tavix(talk) 21:22, 29 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
One of them is recently created, and the other two were created few months back, all by the same user. Delete all per the 2019 outcome, we wouldn't want this user or any other to start creating "A"/"An" redirects all over again. Jay 💬 09:21, 30 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Delete per nom for not being mentioned at target and not being a likely search term. Page creations, if action is taken about them, should be done separately and not a part of this RfD. My two cents is that I don't think either are likely search terms either, and especially the (Nintendo character) version, as there aren't other characters named "Mamu" at the disambiguation page so there shouldn't be a need to include "Nintendo" in the disambiguator, even though I don't have a problem with the (Nintendo) syntax in theory. Utopes(talk / cont) 01:44, 13 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Move to Mamu (character), and retarget to Super Mario Bros. 2 per CopperyMarrow15. Old redirect from 2006. Disambiguation rules have evolved, no reason to delete based on syntax. Wart (Nintendo) was also moved to Wart (character) in 2011. Jay 💬 07:07, 13 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Delete Even Super Mario Bros. 2 contains far too little substance to warrant a redirect - all it says is the main villain named Mamu - everyone typing this probably already knows that level of detail. The (Nintendo) disambiguator is of no consequence here - Mamu (character) would be IMO inappropriate for the same reason. There's no actual history here worth holding on to. * Pppery *it has begun... 00:25, 19 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The film has been released, so this redirect is no longer accurate. I'll note that it was created before the films debut. Deauthorized. (talk) 20:08, 3 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Keep for now. The redirect is still getting 10-20 hits a day most days and so is very clearly still necessary to get readers to the content they are looking for. Thryduulf (talk) 21:30, 3 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Thryduulf: To this end, would you (hypothetically) propose this title get re-nominated once the pageviews begin to decline? While the redirect might technically get people to the "right target" in the present time, "upcoming" is no longer an accurate description and is a costly redirect to maintain. Utopes(talk / cont) 22:03, 3 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Once the page views have (all-but) ceased then yes it will be fine to be renominated. WP:COSTLY is an essay that grossly overstates the actual costs of redirects (which are actually WP:CHEAP). In cases like this the cost of maintaining the redirect is essentially zero so the benefit from deletion is also essentially zero, but the costs of making it significantly harder for readers to find the content they are looking for are significant. Depending on the combination how they are searching or browsing for the content, what device/browser they are using, and what type of access level they have (anon, confirmed, administrator) a deleted redirect can result in someone being multiple clicks/taps away from the content instead of being taken directly there. Delete per nom. Likely to be a CSD R3 candidate as well.Utopes(talk / cont) 20:38, 3 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Weak delete, don't speedy. This is the leet respelling of the target and as such gets thousands of hits on Google and is not therefore sufficiently implausible to be a G3 candidate. I'm not sure that it's a useful redirect as there is no particular affinity between leet and iPhones (that I'm aware of, but I'm very much not part of either culture) so the spirit of WP:RFOREIGN probably applies. Thryduulf (talk) 21:34, 3 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Struckthrough possible CSD candidacy. My rationale behind it was that this subject has no notable affinity about being written in leetspeak, as much as any other topic would be. The only (admittedly very loose) association that exists is that both are "technological", but that's about it. The ghits I did not factor in, but almost all results for "1ph0n3" are just that word being included in paragraphs of leet, mainly stemming from a 2021 song on spotify that happens to include that as one of the words.
Side note, but I would not have considered leet to be treated as a foreign language, as I feel regular foreign-language redirects are probably more valid of spellings and search terms. Nobody actually SPEAKS in leet exclusively (at least, I don't think anyone does), meaning that 1ph0n3 wouldn't be the "resorting search term that was created for those who speak leet language", but the slow deletion is probably preferable here. Comment: You say that "this 93-L RfD suggests consensus leans towards the removal of this 99-L redirect". Firstly, that particular 93-L RfD is still ongoing and receiving active participation as recently as 10 minutes ago while I'm typing. Alluding that the "consensus is already there" in regards to the outcome of an unfinished RfD does not quite bode well in my opinion, especially when you're directlyinvolved via your deletion vote and your ongoing discussion comments from a few hours ago. These redirect titles could have been easily aired within that discussion as "follow-up redirects to pursue at RfD". There is no WP:RUSH for this discussion to be happening simultaneously to the other one, as the 93-L discussion has been a "hot-topic RfD" up for 3 weeks with multiple relists, and it's still being talked about. Asking editors to juggle this alongside the other RfD that has not yet finished, under the presumption that "consensus has already been decided as delete, so the rest of the similar redirects should get nominated straight-away" is not a great practice and can create confusing contexts, in my opinion. Utopes(talk / cont) 23:59, 17 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
(edit conflict)As for what to do, I feel this discussion (as well as the other two new RfDs) should probably be closed for the time being to allow the Invest 93-L RfD to finish once everyone says their piece, and allow for an official result to come to pass. If it ultimately closes with a "retarget" verdict, then these extra three nominations won't serve much of a purpose once the precedent has been set (as I presume these will be treated the same way). If 93-L ends up being deleted, THEN I think is a good time to nominate the other three redirects in a bundle, rather than three different discussions. Utopes(talk / cont) 00:51, 18 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If only one redirect had been nominated, I'd just say to wait, but with 98L and 91-L above I'd recommend bundling the noms. Saves us time later down the line. Skarmory(talk •contribs) 00:41, 18 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Hey man im josh: usually 2 or 3 editors are enough for a consensus here in RfD. This is due to RfD having less participants than at AfD. --Lenticel(talk) 02:18, 4 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Delete as an implausible typo per nom. (To chime in, it is my understanding per WP:RELIST that relisted discussions don't have to wait another 7 days before being closed. If consensus is found, noms can be re-processed right away, if desired. 😉) Utopes(talk / cont) 02:25, 4 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Delete: per nom. For the record, HMIJ, I'm not an admin but have observed plenty of admin closed and 1 delete is enough for a delete and, as a matter of fact, nominations with no !votes are usually soft deleted without relisting. CLYDE TALK TO ME/STUFF DONE 02:49, 4 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

This terminology is no longer mentioned at the target; all mentions of "multi-member university" were scrubbed and replaced with "university systems"... although even with that being said, "multi-member university" is still a vague search term and, to my understanding, not necessarily unique to universities in Vietnam. Weak retarget to Citation, which is a general article about citations for those interested in citing articles. Seeing this redirect in the queue, I felt it was worth the discussion. Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. As this situation currently stands, there is no impeachment, so this redirect's existence in the first place is possibly misleading. If there is an impeachment, then this redirect should exist (although it would probably be an article instead by that point). In the meantime, I feel this redirect, which claims there is an impeachment, may be out-of-place in the current state of events. Utopes(talk / cont) 06:59, 3 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Keep; I think this is fine. While incorrect, I think that impeachment is often used colloquially, or as a shortening of "proposed impeachment". The lede clarifies quick enough for the confused reader. J947 † edits 10:11, 3 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Keep. While technically incorrect this is a highly plausible search term, likely used by those who are not familiar with the technicalities of what impeachment actually means and/or who don't know whether he has been impeached or not. The target explains the situation so will clear up any misconceptions, misunderstandings, misrememberings or other confusion. Thryduulf (talk) 15:49, 3 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Nom comment: If this redirect stays in existence, would the article for the Impeachment inquiry against Joe Biden be the more appropriate target for this title? The article in question (for the impeachment inquiry) was created last month, and seems to speak about the impeachment in a much more tangible manner, rather than hand-wavingly referring to the "efforts to impeach", which is not as firm as the current redirect's title suggests it would be.
Keep. Readers searching for this title will be taken to the most relevant topic, which includes reference to the inquiry. BD2412T 23:01, 3 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Keep since pinyin-based romanization is a common/standard method readers can ordinarily expect, even though in this case it's not the person's usual English name. It's in the infobox (admittedly collapsed in desktop mode; with diacritics) and some articles will also put it in the lead sentence or elsewhere too.
