Cumbrian villages
Hi, thanks for all the effort you're putting into creating articles on Cumbrian villages. You may not know but there is a wikiproject Wikipedia:WikiProject Lancashire and Cumbria dedicated to inproving the coverage of the two counties on wikipedia. We would love you to join so that we can co-operate on development of articles. All the best. NtheP (talk) 17:51, 20 December 2009 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Also, all your articles are uncategorized. If nothing else, could you please add the stub, ((england-stub)) to the bottom of these new pages? Thanks. — Timneu22 · talk 13:10, 18 June 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I have nominated Newby Head, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Newby Head. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.
Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Ironholds (talk) 21:56, 24 February 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the ((dated prod)) notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

as far as I can tell, these places are neighborhoods; I have primarily searched Fox Royd, but I assume the others are similar. It has no boundaries, and shows up in no list of local places. Open Street Map show Fox Royd Lane, , Fox Royd Road, etc. in the same area, but no settlement that could possibly be so called. DGG ( talk ) 22:53, 22 March 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Colours on pie charts (Edit counts)
Help: On my edit count I have red for article, yellow for user and green for talk please can someone tell me what other coulers you can get.
You get a dark pink for user talk edits, which you've now got in your breakdown but you've not quite done enough for them to be a pie slice. Here are another 14. Does that help? ϢereSpielChequers 12:14, 19 April 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Redirected Pages
((helpme)) I have created many redirected pages e.g. Castletown, Cumbria or Flushing Farm, but these don't appear on my articles created page.
By default, the list does not include redirects in the list of pages created. Go to http://toolserver.org/~soxred93/pages/, type your username, select "Include redirects and non-redirects", press Submit, and then you will see those pages included in the list. Please let me know if there are any more questions. Thanks! --Mysdaaotalk 12:09, 11 May 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Articles created per day
((helpme)) How many new articles are created on average every day on Wikipedia and what percentage of them get Deleted?
((helpme)) I have created the page Hammer, Surrey. I have realised that it is actually in West Sussex and I would like the page moved to Hammer, West Sussex without the page Hammer, Surrey being redirected to Hammer, West Sussex. How do I do this?
I have done it for you. For information, you could have moved the article yourself, and tagged the resulting redirect with ((db-r3)). Regards, JohnCD (talk) 14:42, 22 June 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Geography articles
Hi, thanks for creating some fantastic articles on UK places. Please take time to learn Wikipedia's manual of style for UK places, as this would make your articles even better. I have tidied some of the most recent articles for you. -- roleplayer 12:37, 25 June 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
For Suffolk stubs, rather than add the category directly, just add ((suffolk-geo-stub)) rather than ((england-stub)). You can also usefully add the category Category:Villages in Suffolk, for when the article has grown beyond a stub. Thanks, Empty Buffer (talk) 14:33, 15 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Articles for Deletion
I have created the following articles and I would like them to be put through the speedy deletion process.
Thanks to the contributions of our many members and supporters, WP:YORKS has become a leading local British WikiProject in terms of the total number of articles supported (up from 8,225 last month to 8,254 on July 28th). In the area of GAs WP:YORKS at 56 is just behind WP:GM who have 59. WP:GM also has the lead in FAs at 44 out of a total number of 2,201 articles.
Currently we have twenty Yorkshire featured articles:
The number has been kept deliberately low to give us a fighting chance of improving them to at least GA status, also so we can concentrate our efforts on these first.
To bring all other top priority articles (currently 15 with 2 at FA) to at least Good article status
To set up a weekly or monthly selected article improvement drive (See this month's feature below)
To produce a regular news letter for circulation to members
and apropos of the above a 2010 New Year article improvement drive/collaboration is being organised.
Maps
This month I thought that I would focus on the current discussions over the maps used in infoboxes for UK articles.
Firstly an initiative by user Nilfanion (talk) is currently under way on producing map data for the whole of the UK. The maps would cover all counties, wards, civil parishes etc. and be derived from the Ordnance Survey OpenData release. Further details can be seen here where feedback would be appreciated on two specific concerns—the colour scheme and line thickness. Discussion is also taking place as to what features to include on the maps, such as rivers, roads and railways.
Second discussion here on another alternative for mapping data changes to existing maps in infoboxes for districts, boroughs and cities in the UK.
Thirdly a discussion on Wales maps in place infoboxes is under way here, which has branched out into a general discussion on the initiative by user Nilfanionhere.
It would be good if members take time to have a look at these various proposals and comment, where they feel they have some input to offer, as these proposals could potentially affect all of the UK articles with maps in their infoboxes. If you do not speak now then you will have to put up with the results!
WikiProject Yorkshire Collaboration of the Month Project
The August 2010 articles selected below are the editors choice as no one came up with any other suggestions on the project talk page.
The project is subscribed to a clean-up listing which lists articles tagged with various clean-up tags that need attention. The listing is refreshed by a bot on a regular basis. The latest listing was created on March 23rd.
Monitoring is essential Use the watchlist to keep an eye on changes to the project's articles so that vandalism and spamming can be removed as quickly as possible.
Moves Please be careful when performing articles moves and ensure that you also move all the talk sub-pages and update any image fair use rational. Otherwise the archives, to-do lists, assessment comments and GA reviews get lost and the image may be deleted as it has an incorrect FUR.

Hi
I am not able to delete the page myself as I am not an admin, but I have tagged the page for deletion so that an admin can delete it when they get round to it.
It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.
If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. Updates
Last month I brought your attention to the proposals for changes to maps in articles and the newer maps have started to be deployed on some of the Scotland and Wales articles. The English ones will follow on though there has been comments on the loss of some features so this may be revised before mass deployment.
The trial for the pending changes implementation has ended and after discussion a straw poll is under way and now is the time to voice your opinion over the trial and if pending changes should continue to be used or if it should be abandoned.
A further batch of about 10,000 images from the Geograph project has been uploaded to Commons. If you are looking for an image then there may be one available on Commons you just have to search for it! Many of the images are incorrectly categorised at the moment but these are being rectified as they are spotted. If you have time then you can give a hand checking out the image categorisation.

Hi, now that you've converted Hadleigh into a disambiguation page, could you help fix the links that need to be re-pointed to an article per WP:FIXDABLINKS? Navigation popups, with the popupFixDabs flag set to true, is very helpful. Cheers! --JaGatalk 11:53, 12 September 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
disambiguation pages
Hi, you recently edited White House (disambiguation). Not sure if you noticed, but when you edit a disambiguation page, it reads at the top, "Generally only one navigable link (blue link) belongs in each bulleted entry." I've fixed the entry you added, but just FYI, for future edits. 018 (talk) 18:10, 14 September 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.
Thank you.
A tag has been placed on Padham's Green, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article that does not provide sufficient context to identify its subject. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template ((hangon)) to the article and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Hasteur (talk) 17:25, 16 September 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Moving articles
I see that you have moved a number of articles and created disambiguation pages in cases where there are two places with the same name. You may like to consider whether one of the two places should be the primary topic, in which case a dab page is not needed (see WP:TWODABS). If you do go ahead and convert the original page to a dab page, please remember to fix the links to that page, per WP:FIXDABLINKS. I have dealt with this at Upton, Oxfordshire, but there seem to be several others. Thanks. --Mhockey (talk) 14:11, 19 September 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Articles on hamlets
Hi, please stop now creating one line stubs about English hamlets without including at least the minimum information required for Wikipedia articles on settlements; Mass creation of stubs is considered WP:disruptive editing, and can lead to the author being blocked. Thanks.--Kudpung (talk) 09:15, 25 September 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'd agree with what Kudpung said. At the very least, I'd like to see some indication in the article as to why these hamlets are significant, and - ideally - I'd like to see ((coord)) being used so that other editors are spared the hassle of having to tag them for missing the "coord", then yet more editors have to determine where the hamlets are, and add in the coord. TFOWR 09:26, 25 September 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Please ignore the comments above. Long-standing consensus is that articles on human settlements of any size are acceptable in Wikipedia. Building the encyclopedia by creating stubs that others can improve complies with our editing policy and is something to be encouraged. The only disruption that I see here is that two editors, including an administrator who should know much better, are discouraging you from helping to build this encyclopedia. Phil Bridger (talk) 22:29, 26 September 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Does this rule include "settlements" that are just a house or two? Dbfirs 15:16, 24 October 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I have been using A–Z street atlases as a source, which clearly shows the difference between a hamlet and a house Homan's Copse (talk) 11:15, 5 November 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That's fine if you check that the locations really are settlements, but some of your source maps tend to name just random houses in rural areas, and you are mis-interpreting this as meaning that there is a significant settlement there. Dbfirs 11:28, 5 November 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Unfortunately this editor is describing every place mentioned on a map as a hamlet, see Jaw Hill. With respect the A-Z doesn't differentiate between houses and hamlets or neighbourhoods, and doesn't claim to. Most of these places are not notable and should be merged into appropriate articles or deleted.--J3Mrs (talk) 11:39, 5 November 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yes, I think some research should be done before creating stub articles for random mentions on a map. Dbfirs 16:59, 5 November 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Wikipedia 0.8 release
Work is starting on preparing release 0.8 of the off line version of Wikipedia and the articles are in the selection stage. The initial selection has been done using some metrics about each of the articles. The number of projects that are interested in the article and the breadth of the individual projects. This is followed by the ratings of quality and importance that have been assigned to the article by each of the interested projects. There is also factored in what is termed the "External interest points" which is based on the number of hits the article gets, the number of unique internal links the article has and the number of inter-wiki links the article has. If you want more detail of the algorithm used then see here.
They have also selected a specific version of each of the articles that they consider is a stable version without vandalism using a version of the WikiTrust algorithm.
After all of this work they have come up with a selection of 116 articles that have been tagged as relevant to our project and these can be viewed here. We have a chance to influence this selection by reporting articles that people do not think are suitable or where an inappropriate version has been selected. It would also be a good idea to try and tidy up these articles before they get published if anyone has the time. Of the 116 the two articles that have been identified by tags as most needing attention are Asda and Rotherham. We have until October 11th to check out and report any problems or improved versions that need to be incorporated in to this release.

Hello, I noticed that you moved Acton, London to Acton, Greater London, this seems wrong, the guideline you quoted says "For the City of London and Greater London combined [[placename, London]] is used.". Thanks Grim23★ 13:32, 4 October 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I will continue to tag non notable articles in the area in which I live. You should be aware that List of United Kingdom locations is a wikipedia page and not an independent source of notable places. You really shouldn't believe everything you read here. A mention in an A-Z is hardly a decent reference. I see from your user page you appear to be on a crusade to create these articles with an average of 2 edits per page, it would be far more impressive to see them developed. I live in W Yorks and can assure you of their non notability.--J3Mrs (talk) 17:41, 7 October 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, Whalley Range, Greater Manchester. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Whalley Range. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will to continue helping improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Whalley Range - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.
If you think that the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the deletion by adding ((hangon)) to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. J3Mrs (talk) 12:12, 9 October 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If you copy and paste text from listed Buildings Online as you did at Round Maple, you will get a copyvio notice. You are supposed to write it in your own words as I have now done. You over link the articles, naming every road and placename within a five mile radius does not make them any more notable. Constant references to A-Z maps are not needed when coordinates are used. Please read the guidelines.--J3Mrs (talk) 10:38, 12 November 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You shouldn't reference to A-Z because you find it a convenient way of avoiding unreferenced tags! References show notability, coordinates show location. As far as anchors go stop creating pages to places that aren';t notable and there won't be a problem. Short articles, according to the Manual of Style should have fewer headers. You really should check whether a place is REALLY notable rather than a word on a map BEFORE you create a page.--J3Mrs (talk) 10:57, 13 November 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Notability
If you revert the tag on Round Maple again you will be doing so for the third time. Let another editor decide as to its notability. Just because a place is on a map doesn't make it notable.--J3Mrs (talk) 14:13, 14 November 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Penrith
Looking at whatlinkshere suggests that there are a significant number of links intended for the Australian town. It would perhaps have been more helpful to at least fix the dablinks first, and even better to have discussed before moving. We now have a situation in which it is much harder to fix the links than it was before your move. DuncanHill (talk) 15:27, 14 November 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Your addition to Round Maple has been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other websites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of article content such as sentences or images. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
I see that this issue has already been raised on this talk page by another editor but you do not appear to have taken his/her advice on board. To be clear, Crown Copyright material may not be used on Wikipedia as it does not have a licence which is compatible with GFDL. I have removed the copyright violations from Round Maple and would be grateful if you could do likewise for any other text which you may have cut and pasted from external sources Kind regards, Nancy talk 11:49, 28 November 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
In the light of these copyvios I have revoked the autopatrolled flag on your user. I will be happy to replace it if you can demonstrate that you fully understand Wikipedia's copyright policies. Best, Nancy talk 12:45, 28 November 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Etiquette
I have just closed the Talk:Penrith,_Cumbria#Requested_move, I note that during the discussion you made a number of separate edits in which you prefaced the comment with Support please note the etiquette in discussions is that an editor only once makes such an assertions and that subsequent arguments are prefaced with comment and indented where you are responding to a specific comment. If you find that during the discussion you've change your opinion please use <s></s> to Strike then follow with the New opinion. Also please adjust your signature colours see WP:SIGN for more details, additionaly please remove the link to the article in your signature as this causes disruption to the efforts of other editors by creating unassociated links. Welcome messages
The next problem is the welcome message template you are trying to use, such as the one you placed on User talk:Impossiblekgirl. It's great to see you wanting to welcome people, but there's something seriously wrong there too if you look at the page in edit@ mode and see all the code it's generated. If you're not sure how templates work and are programmed, it's best to stick with the standard oes we use - for one thing, although I know you are trying to be helpful, but there's just too much information in that one for a young kid who's taking their first wobbly steps at Wikipedia. Take care, and happy editing! --Kudpung (talk) 12:02, 1 December 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I believe this project may have been created out of process and without the necessary support. However as I don't deal with wikiprojects I don't really know how to deal with it so I've posted a question here. Dpmuk (talk) 15:32, 2 December 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Categories for discussion nomination of Category:Round Maple
I noticed that you started a new article. I made a couple of changes to the formatting of the references. Firstly, I put the references after the full-stops instead of before. That just makes them look a bit nicer. Secondly, I noticed that you used the same reference four times. Each time it was being listed as a new reference; giving four identicle entries in the reference list. You can name references. You used <ref>A-Z Essex, 2010 edition. p. 170</ref> every time you wanted to use that reference. That gave four duplicate copies, with four different in-line numbers: see here. What I did was name the reference. The first time it was used I wrote <ref name="A-Z">A-Z Essex, 2010 edition. p. 170</ref>. That named the reference as A-Z. Then, for each following use of that reference I put <ref name="A-Z"/>. That gave a single in-line number, and a single reference list entry (indexed by letter): see here. I hope you like the way it looks now. If you use it in the future, then just remember to give different references different names and you'll save a lot of typing, a lot of space, and your article will be neater and easier to understand. — Fly by Night (talk) 19:32, 3 December 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
P.S. You can archive or delete anything on your user talk page at any time. Deleting it is an acknowledgement that you've read it. If you didn't want all of those speedy deletion notices clogging everything up, or if you didn't want my two posts clogging things up, then there's nothing stopping you doing some house keeping. All the best. — Fly by Night (talk) 19:37, 3 December 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
ON the other hand, all those notices are a sign that you might be needing some help with understanding some of the policies and process of building this encylopedia. It's an opportunity for people like me to jump in and lend a friendly hand :) --Kudpung (talk) 08:25, 4 December 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Above is a message you left in the middle of my talkpage.
If you wish to contact me and start a new conversation you ought to use the New section tab at the top of the page so I can see it.
My reply is, because someone else did it does not make it right.
I live near Whitley, that's what we call it!
Round Maple gets a lot of hits because you edit it so often!!!! It is in my opinion, like Jagger Green, not notable.
If a whole sentence is referenced to the same reference, it only needs one mention.
And finally you followed me round yesterday as I found some references for Simister. I hoped you'd learn something, like what makes a good reference, how to cite. It would be useful to Wikipedia if you checked that your "hamlets" were notable not just addresses before creating them. Reliable references are not about A-Z or the pub, they refer to something that makes a place notable.--J3Mrs (talk) 18:47, 4 December 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks to the contributions of our many members and supporters, WP:YORKS has become a leading local British WikiProject in terms of the total number of articles supported (up from 8,621 last month to 8,665 on November 29th). In the area of GAs WP:YORKS at 62 is just ahead of WP:GM who have 60. WP:GM also has the lead in FAs at 49 out of a total number of 2,292 articles.
Currently we have twenty four Yorkshire featured articles:
The number has been kept deliberately low to give us a fighting chance of improving them to at least GA status, also so we can concentrate our efforts on these first.
To bring all other top priority articles (currently 15 with 2 at FA) to at least Good article status
To set up a weekly or monthly selected article improvement drive (See this month's feature below)
To produce a regular news letter for circulation to members
and apropos of the above a 2010 New Year article improvement drive/collaboration is being organised.
Happy Christmas
Wishing all project members a Happy Christmas and thanks for all the work you have put in to the project over the last year. We have made great strides forward especially in the area of Good Articles
and this month we have a bumper set of seven articles trying for GA status. Some passed the review while others did not, but even a try moves an article forward. Thanks to ll those involved in these articles and keep up the good work.
Cleanup listing
Some members will know that we were subscribed to the clean-up listing that was produced on an occasional basis by a BOT. The BOT owner has left and has not released the source of the BOT for someone to pick-up. The last run of this BOT was in March of this year. Others have stepped in and produced a new tool that runs on the tool server to provide projects with similar information.
The clean-up listing gives details of all of the articles with the project's banner that have clean-up tags attached to them. The listing is in alphabetical order but can be sorted on class, importance or the number of different tags found in an article. If you want the listing grouped by the different tags then the tag grouped listing should be used.
According to the tool run dated 28 November of the 8,729 articles in this project 2,725 or 31.2% are marked for clean-up, though I am unsure how it gets the article count figure as that does not appear to match the counts from the assessment table.
WikiProject Yorkshire Collaboration of the Month Project
The December 2010 articles selected below are the editors choice as no one came up with any other suggestions on the project talk page.
The project is subscribed to a clean-up listing which lists articles tagged with various clean-up tags that need attention. The listing is refreshed by a bot on a regular basis.

Requested moves
Can I suggest you do a bit more research before making a requested move for a place as many of you move requests are being strongly opposed. I'd also suggest you give a longer and better reason. "Clearly primary" offers no one else any information while you think this is the case and it's becoming clear that to many people the reason is far from clear. Dpmuk (talk) 16:04, 5 December 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Please, I must second that request. We assume good faith on your part but these half-baked requests are wasting a lot of time, and our patience will not last forever. If you want to be active on WP:RM, you need to read and understand WP:NC and make it a practice to base your arguments on it. Andrewa (talk) 00:40, 6 December 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Nomination of Little Thatch, Suffolk for deletion
A discussion has begun about whether the article Little Thatch, Suffolk, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.
You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Ilikeeatingwaffles (talk) 22:53, 5 December 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
