Space Delta 8 (DEL 8) is a United States Space Force unit which provides satellite communications and the world's standard for Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) signals through the Global Positioning System, providing the focal point for U.S. protected and assured Military SATCOM as well providing the only global utility for PNT signals to both military and civilian users.[4]
Activated on 24 July 2020, the delta is headquartered at Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado. Its current commander is Colonel Matthew E. Holston.[5][6][7]
It replaced the 50th Operations Group, which had been part of the former 50th Space Wing.[7][8]
DEL 8 is expected to grow with the transfer of the United States Army's 53rd Signal Battalion (which would be renamed as the 53rd Space Operations Squadron).[9][1][10]
